"Violence" gene gives murderers reduced sentences

Hmm... Let me think..
BULLSHIT!!!
Go tell the victim's family that "He had a violence gene, so it really isn't his fault that he murdered your loved one"
I can't approve of that.

Definitely BS! If there was a "violence" gene then i supposed everyone has it. But most of us can control. If you can't control it then might as well go somewhere where you can't hurt anyone else--prison..If everyone had every gene we'd pretty much all look and act the same.

I'm not talking about every gene. Just the violence one. I'm just assuming it is a trait that humans have since every single human being has the tendency to commit violent acts.

All i can say to this is, Bullshit the only violence that should be tolerated is the extermination of people who actually buy into this. Any person is capable of violent acts, its apart of Human nature. To clam something like this makes me question the Rational thought process of the legal system.
According to the legal system i am legally insane, yet you don't see me running around doing what ever i want because of it.

There's a lot of hormones and enzymes and other things that effect humans, for example how girls tend to get a bit bitchy during the pms or that the opposite sex will be attracted to you because of some phermones that you release, there are many people who are fat just because they have a gene that fails to tell them to stop eating. Like these mice, who has a little difference in one gene and the same genes exists in humans and is not as uncommon as you'd think.
Spoiler:
a "violence" gene would simply work by producing some substance that made people more violent.

Just an excuse just like Violent Video games made me do it. Um lets look at history shall we that has been plagued with violence long before video games or the knowledge of genes. lets face it VIOLENCE Sells humans love Violence, getting of cause you have this *gene* no....

There is no excuse that should separate the consequence from the action committed. Leniency only produces repeat offenders. Guilty or not guilty is where the focus should be, not 'how' guilty.

I heard about this before and honestly thought it was a bunch of BS at first. But when I started thinking on the "if" mind, "What if I had this gene and it really did force me to only think about hurting people around me". If that was the case, then it would be a matter of how much self-control I can exert. If I could exert a great deal of self-control then that would be good for the people around me and myself. But if the impulses given from this gene basically take over my rational thoughts or possible even my actions, then that just plain sucks. It's probably not a good idea to state an example from a manga, but in Medaka Box there is that abnormal guy who literally can only think of killing people. In his case that alienated him from others and forced him to learn how not to kill others. Well sorry for being so long-winded with my opinion, but this is what I seriously think.

I'd say this it's pretty much comparable with guys who rape girls who were dressed or acted a bit "slutty" and they don't get any reduced sentences... oh wait, they do.

I think persons with this gene should still get the same sentences as other. A murder is still a murder and the murderer must face responsibility for thier actions.

Not everything is determined by our genes, it is a combination of nature and nurture. So if you use that excuse, you would have to remember that humans are by nature violent, but we have changed with our environment. So you can't use the gene excuse.

If this gene is real, then i think they should be be heavily monitored until someone finds a way to suppress it or something. The explanation in this article did sound convincing, but i'm not totally ready to believe such a gene exists yet.

Well genes do make up a large chunk of everything about us, however I don't think we've actually pinpointed such a gene yet.
Furthermore, whether it does or does not exist doesn't change the fact that you are committing violent acts against others, even if your inherently more irritable then others or something you still need to be removed from society just as much as anyone else doing such things, in fact maybe more so.
