Whilst our actions may seem volatile and to those who haven't been exposed to the full picture or reasons behind them, dangerous in nature, I find them justified. While I can proclaim their righteousness on the basis that through them we assert and bring freedom to new medias and crush hateful notions of old with our force and willpower, I must truly give my reason as to why we do as we do; We do so for survival. Now as our numbers swell as our words reach heart, many may cause our message or reasons to falter from the forefront and old trademarks of old such as actions provoked by and f0r the lulz to appear, but those who truly allow the message and idea that is anonymous to incorporate itself in ones thoughts and conscience see that although our methods, on both sides of legality, are cause for much disdain, they are needed for us to preserve our state of living and the state of others. Anonymous stands at the forefront of the trenches of injustice, to storm it from the sancity of our unseen world, and to bring acknowledgement of a new dawn free of such depravities. While we come from many paths of life and many opinions, if we did not and do not hold together by the notion that we can change the world, those paths would have been cut short by those of bigotous nature.

People take the film V for Vendetta too seriously.
Because of its fanbase, I now cannot stand the Guy Fawkes masks. It's gotten so bad that, on Facebook, I even saw someone actually psycho-analyzing the film and comparing it to modern-day Britain and how Britain's government is corrupt and how it could easily turn out like in the film. But she's one of those people who believed all the lies from unreliable sources and thinks that everything she says is right. In other words, her opinions are wrong opinions and won't budge from her way of thinking.
And besides, after the London Riots I sincerely doubt that'd happen.

Meh I believe that occurs for most cult classics and favorites and when was the last time speculation didn't occur XD?

True, but this one seems to stick out like a sore thumb compared to other cult classics and even worse, this one shoves it in your face. You see people claiming to be "Anonymous" and using the mask as a logo or trademark, and even protesters use these masks to try to mirror what happened in the film
I mean... even Twatlight doesn't do that.

I hate the Anonymous bullshit. It's just a way for losers to feel better about themselves. "I'm so cool, I'm part of Anonymous, nobody knows who we are."
If you want to champion a cause, go protest in the street, like what the Occupy people have been doing. Oh, that's right, some of the Anonymous people do protest, but with their silly masks on as if hiding their identity or referencing a movie based on a graphic novel that referenced a bit of English history actually means something. (On the November 5th shit - what's the point? The Gunpowder Plot failed, and Guy Fawkes Day was began to commemorate how the king wasn't killed. V in V for Vendetta may wear the mask to show his opposition to the government, but as far as I know, Anonymous doesn't want to tear down the American or English governments.)
So, if you want to protest, you go protest with an established group or start your own. And if you want to cause harm to a perceived threat or injustice, you use hacking skills to accomplish your goal. But if you want to be cool by being a part of something that is practically ripped out of a movie or comic, then you join Anonymous and . . . put something in your signature on a website? Go on a -chan site and talk about how much you hate whatever it is that you hate? Go to Habbo Hotel and block the pool?
I can say that I am a communist and that I want the dissolution of the government, but if all I do is sit on my fat ass and bitch, then I have done nothing, have accomplished nothing. If I don't actively try to change things, then all I have are words, and not even strong words. That's what I see from "Anonymous" - a few people that actually do something and a lot of losers that say they're part of the group but in reality don't do shit. If anyone here claims to be a member of Anonymous, then I ask, what have you done? What actions have you taken to further any cause?
Also, yesterday was November 5th. I still used Facebook. Way to go, Anonymous. You're so powerful.

All Anonymous is are people who childish minds who want to pretend that they are some important people who are changing things when they are more like pests than anything.
Even in the times when they DO something it usually results in the means they used not even coming close to being validated by the end.
They're mostly just children with too much time and not enough restraint.

Well, i dunno, but i think it just sounds like a bullshit that someone with a childish brain would think of to hangout with their friends, like "Hey, mom, im gonna go to anonimousing with my friend"....
Or something like that?

Anonymous, the ideal is implied in all internet-based interaction.
However, as a "member" of the "organization" Anonymous, you have violated one of it's central tenets by making this post.
I recommend you abandon this thread, secluding yourself to meditate on the error you have made here.
-Why is this behavior wrong? (Think paper trails)
-What should I do in the future? (Think Fight Club. Thematic marks, not the fucking slogan.)

(Dim to black, change reel. Scene: discussing Anonymous on the internet. Today's special is redundancy, with a side salad.)

I don't see Anonymous as a real organization. Well it is more difficult to stomp, the looser collective is too concerned with infighting to effectively wage against the powers that be. It's "accomplishments" are restricted to the internet, and perpetrated by a select group of scriptkiddies, as opposed to the "hacker threat" that people get up in arms about.
The entire argument looks like guerrilla vs. conventional warfare. They have the advantages of an early guerrilla resistance, but the weaknesses (poor organization, no leadership, little to no communication between cells, etc.) are amplified.
As a student of resistance, I would like to see if this breed grows into something effective, but will continue to hold the community based model, until I can work out a functioning fusion.
I do like some ideas, like Adbusters' "killcap" concept. But coordination is key, when executing attacks like that.
Quoted from the paper copy of Adbusters 98, Nov/Dec 2011 "From Killcap to Wikiswarms" by Micah White:
"...We've bot KillCap brewing, an anticonsumerism game built on the simple premise of escalating missions that ttarget the visible signs of consumerism: 10 blackpogs, or in game experience points, for walking away from Starbucks, 15 for defacing the Golden Arches, and 25 for subverting American Apparel's patriarchal advertising. Here, the proverbial "ladder of engagement" that online campaigners reverently talk about becomes a literal leader-board where the highest rank goes to the most active (culture) jammers. The beauty of Killcap is that knowing such an urban game is being played alters one's perception of the city and what constitutes a political act. A jammed billboard, an anticorporate prank, and a capitalist hit with a pie, rather than being seen as isolated events, all become signs that jammers are earning blackpogs in KillCap, and exciting game you'll also want to play."
(This is the important bit, Coordination without interaction. Autonomous units, moving toward a single goal, with guidelines for targeting only.)

I'm excited by the premise, but I think that without the proper emphasis on legit community, Anonymous won't grow the potency it could have.

For those that don't know, Anonymous has its own Wikipedia page.
One thing I saw on there strikes me as really odd:
4chan, where Anonymous got started, is known for having a lot of CP (well, it used to), and, at least in the past, it was assumed that a large bulk of 4channers either liked to look at CP or had some in their possession as a means of fucking with people.
I'm not saying that CP is good or should be tolerated, but this DarkNet thing seems like chan-goers attacking chan-goers, to me. Just sort of hypocritical.

Operation DarkNet
In October 2011, the group took down 40 child porn sites and published the names of over 1500 people frequenting those websites.

That's because after, mainly, Project Chanology, "Anonymous" has taken a political role. A political role for 12-14 year old boys who think they're part of some sort of powerful force, fighting for freedom and against corruption.
The entire white-knight attitude goes against everything that Anonymous was about.

What to you was anonymous about?Yes, It may seem like total bullshit and as a way to look superior to everyone else on the Internet but again, take into consideration where we are from and where are currently and as to what position we hold. For one point, we hail from origins that werent exactly the peak of human goodness, no, we are and still reside in the cesspools of the Internet. As for what we currently are, we currently are a great forum for free thought, if just one of many people were to become free or were able to think, isn't that enough? And to the position we hold, well we hold various positions varying from the heroic to the same old trollish terrorism we've seen for almost a decade, as a decentralized group of free thinkers you are free to do as you wish, anonymous is a way to share freely your thoughts and hopefully, should others wish to fall the same, as it either has good points that help freedom or us or simply destroys something and sounds fun, is a way to take action you wouldn't have been able to before. As for who we are and our routes, it does not and has never mattered how old , if you were a bandwagoner, or if your total elitist hikakimori who did nothing but stay in his house, what matters is that even if we do nothing we are sharing a thought that for some has never been brought to mind, we are fighting whether or not it makes a difference evil and corruption. and we stand, even if that stand has multiple tendrils, united against whoever comes to harm us or our lives and with each other as those who truly do wish to make and become a part of something greater.
Oh and just for a note: XD pretty much every person uses Facebook now, why would anyone vote to take it down?! Meh again, alot of our roots and current status is that of a troll and mainly, we're just stupid denizens of the Internet, why not suggest a show of power? It makes us look cool right? meh well if enough of us thought like that you would have not been using Facebook yesterday.

Everyone takes Anonymous too seriously. They haven't accomplished anything ever and, like mentioned, what they're doing nowadays isn't what Anonymous was about in the first place. Now it's just a bunch of liberal, mainstream, newfag, wannabes pretending to be part of some kind of powerful organization.
Just stop giving them attention.

Really?we haven't accomplished anything?Well for the descriptions you give for those that claim to be anonymous, I believe we've done alot. We've taken down countless websites of origin within unfree and unjust countries,we've aided in the Arab spring, helping to slow down and keep open various patches of communication to aid others, we currently play a part in the various Occupy areas, we have protected those who just so happen share another point than you by protecting wiki leaks and that unfortunate young man who helped promote freedom of information and speech.Besides, What have YOU done that makes what we have accomplished pointless?
