Other than Asians, you have people of other ethnicity finding lighter skin attractive also, and example of this is Sammy Sosa.

Recently, a documentary staring Chris Rock came out, called Good Hair. It reportedly came about because his daughter asked him, "Daddy, how come I don't have good hair?" The movie talks about the perception that African-Americans don't have the right hair, as well as the markets that try to "correct" the bad hair that African-Americans are born with.
The movie, in a way, is about why black women want straight hair, which they typically do not have.
That is the exact same thing as Asians wanting to look paler. Blacks aren't being racist, and they don't want to throw away their heritage. There's a look that a lot of them don't have, that a lot of them want. Same deal with the Asians who want paler skin.

....The grass is always greener at the other side of the field.
I guess people have the insatiable hunger for something better then what they already have. The craze for being white in the Chinese community is almost the same on the craze for dieting... it never ends. Usually what they perceive as "better", they lack the understanding of it, and only strive for its good side, not really knowing the bad effects, requirements, and trouble that it brings. After obtaining it, they probabbly realise that the previous is much better and regrets... Probabbly the same thing as a poor man wishes for wealth but disregards a fulfilling life, and a rich man wishing for a fulfilling life but disregards wealth.

I find it odd that they would want to look white. But I also find it odd that black people want to look white to, or white people want to look tan/dark. Everyone wants something they don't have. In today's society its natural to want what you don't have. Hell since the beginning of time man has hungered for the things he does not have, like a cure for death, or a means of escaping from problems. We all want something, but what happens when we get it? Then where do you go from there?Well said +rep.
