WHY CAN'T WE BE FRIENDS?
is there a thing as peace

I say NO.. Utopia is impossible, no matter how much u think about it, there will be a small/big flaw that exist within the law..

I think we can have world peace, but only once we evolve some more. Homo Sapiens certainly aren't suited for it.

We can't have world peace because war is what makes us human. What other species has performed such mass conflict that they have in fact changed the face of the world? Our war breeds weapons, which spur technology to advance. Giving up war will likely lead to a cutback in advancement as a species. After all, most gains being made in computer technology are being made for defense purposes, then adapted for other civilian uses. Anyone that wishes for world peace is wishing for a complete end in conflict as a whole, and is asking for a docile human race. If we turn our backs on conflict it'll be turning our backs on the evolutionary process. We try to make ourselves out to be something higher than animals when we just escalated the conflict that animals experience every day with the very tools evolution gave us. Somewhere down the line of time, the way in which the world operates made us this way, don't forget that.
I'm not saying war is good, I'm just saying its our identification. If you see a tank rusting in the desert somehwere, you know that it was humanity that put it there.

I say if we kill EVERYONE else (Seriously) there can be world peace. So long as there is conflicting beliefs and diversity in a society there will be no lasting peace.

War brings peace

War brings peaceYes thats true but without war you wouldn't need the war to bring peace *head hurts* Whats that saying? Hatred breeds only more hatred. War can bring about momentary peace. I've never heard of a war completely wiping out any disent from among a group. Could be wrong though :-\

You're right, the peace is only a small one, but the statement holds true. And though it is true that the cycle of hatred can continue to breed war, is it really better to deny your own emotions and ignore a human part of you to say that its fine? People say the bigger man walks away, but if the entire world walked away, what would be left?
Actually, here is what I think is the only way to accomplish World Peace: Create a global identity. Wars start because of the base instinct to have more so you can continue to live. If humanity became a collective under one government, then all territory would be of the Earth, not of the country. Problem with this theory is that we'll probably only have a globalized government after space travel is perfected. But then we start a whole new problem of fighting for other worlds and resources (hey, its still world peace. Just its only this world)

I love what the Boss said in MGS3 (I haven't play the four since I don't have a PS3), she said about the belief everyone held is different and the friend today might tomorrow enemy. It's true that today we might be friend but who knows tomorrow or some other day?
Every one of us has their own belief but would other accept or reject them so I could say it the war of belief and whether you support one of them or not, it's like choosing which one you defend the Republic or the Empire (I refer to Star Wars). Besides each one of us, human is a part of life like an animal defending their territory, their power or their family so we might not be able to co-operate easily. Anger, hate, envy also play part which make us enemy but I don't believe that peace could not be achieved.
I always like to read my friend novel on the Dictator about a character whose famous word "Even though we had different believe and we came from different race or different country but I always believe that the peace among us could be achieved despite the difference. Even though it just for a second, at least we achieved world peace."

I believe that eventually people will evolve beyond the stage of intellect that leads to petty differences, one day we will share a Utopian ideology.

We can't be friends do to to the fact that people just naturally hate each other. I mean you look towards your best friend, of course you gonna hate them sometimes but people that dont even know each other will not like each other... Sorry if I made no sense..
Case in point "People just Naturally Hate Each Other".
But people give out a lot of Love too...

there is no such thing as peace because we as humans seem to be bent on self destruction. When they made the hydrogen bomb, there was a chance that it could have just blown up the whole world, and we took that chance. It was one of two things; kill everyone that opposes us, or kill us and everyone else.

In my opinion, most acts of kindness are to prove that the person performing the action isn't harboring negative feelings, which I guess says enough.

A friend of mine send me an e-mail regarding this topic so I thought that I share his views. He says,
War is a part of nature and I mean nature which include human and non-human (I am not talking about Elf or Dwarf like we're in the LOTR story) that is the animal particularly bear or so I heard. We defend our territory, we hunt for food and if anyone or anything interfere, we chase them out or worst.
In my opinion, war is a conflict of belief but belief isn't the only thing that lead to war. MGS gave me a deeper thought on why the soldier fight even though it is against their belief. Politic, religion, economy and many more made the soldier to fight, tied by a thread, the sense of duty, pride, honor and more were on their stake, they just couldn't shrug it off easily since the country and the people were on their hand including the pride of the nation.
I might have more to say but let me give the answer for some of your question.
1) Not everyone hate each other if they gave you the stare, it is part of nature to be cautious or suspicious. You might see me wearing a suspicious oversized jacket, thinking I might carrying a weapon when actually I am trying to smuggle a large box of donut from my donut-crazy friend who always left me half of a donut. Another theory is not everyone is in a good-mood especially when they are going into anti-social state for a while.
2)I would like to say 'are you nuts? Killing everyone!?' but to tell the truth war can bring peace, maybe for freedom or to create suffering so everyone would know the feeling and hope to make peace (isn't easy when more hate and vengeance are create). Extermination is crazy but people in the past were force to (unless they're out of their mind) wipe out the threat and to create fear so everyone would bow down to them but a revolt would later follow.
3) This sounds crazy but sometime war is needed to create human progress or revolution as seen in WW2, the atomic bomb, advanced missile system, radar were created and human performance were also enhance in skill, intelligent, ideology and so on. The use of atomic bomb which I do not know was intended or force to was like a decision do you want to survive or not or else they used it against you. Sadly civilian casualties are usually high.
4) If you asking why they continue to fight despite losing, my better answer is 'would you let their death in vain?' If I got a chance, I send you (me,Samo of course) another story of the War Chronicle titled 'The King and the Politician' if you want. That's after I find the name and the suitable background.
I apologize if its too long, but this is the summarize version which my friend send me and I hope I am not making a blog here instead of discussion.

MGS has really glorified the mind of a soldier. Take it from real men that have been there when you ask them. Before battle, sure. Overdose on ideology. But when that first bullet goes past your head, politics and all that shit just go right out the window. It's not religion or ethics or morality or some higher belief than the simple fact that you do not want the men next to you to die. That is the core belief of every soldier.
And yes, humanity wouldn't be where it is today without wars. We owe most all advanced technology to DoD researchers trying to make the next great weapon.

If I'm in a good mood, I'll vote yes, if I'm in a bad mood, I'll vote no.
In other words, peace does exist in this world, however there's no such thing as ETERNAL PEACE !!!

For me, it depends...For a soldier, war is peace.. because he can got money
That's an extremely illogical thing to say, as it would imply all soldiers feel at peace when they have money. Which isn't true. No, had you said "I feel at peace when I'm at war because I get money" it would have made sense.
