(Why) do Asian women prefer femine over masculine guys?

Asian woman here. My type tends to be more masculine, but alittle androgyny isn't a bad thing.
Good looking men in shoujo's tend to be androgynous - perhaps that's why.

Same situation over here in Indonesia. MOST female opt for a more feminine man than a muscular one according a widespread mail and phone polls conducted by a locally popular female magazine. I had a friend who suffered a confidence crisis, buffed out just to have his girl disgusted by it.

Asian women don't prefer feminine guys over masculine guys. It's just most eastern asian guys are passive and introverted. For this combination of traits, the androgynous look works.
I'm asian and I grew up in North America. I find it extremely easy to meet girls from east asian countries (Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, Japanese). I find that they're actually drawn more towards a masculine and dominant energy...which is extremely rare in east asia.

Don't question culture buddy. It's like how Asian males prefer cute girls rather than hot girls. With the exception of me.

I don't really have any info to give but a real example should suffice i guess.
my friend prefers reserved and intelligent guys. she also finds feminine guys more attractive. the guy she is dating is well calm, collected, not buff but fit, average asian body size, isn't as noisy and rowdy like most guys, a little over 160'(taller than her). she interacts with more humorous and intelligent guys as friends.
(girl next door type)
another girl is crazy bout this guy who is well not very noisy or rowdy but he is quite big and masculine. she does play around with other guys though like nerdy, shy, average guys. i dunno maybe it's just her attitude problem nvm next example.(quite hot type)
erm there was also another girl that dated a real buff junior, erm he is dam strong with a teddy bear side. but i think they broke up but she still dated a well masculine guy but not big and musclely, this guy was good at a lot of sports.he is well more rowdy and noisy.
(quite hot type)
errr i also had another friend whose into big muscle body building men.
(no comment cause she is my friend type)
From a public point of view, i see a lot of girls with the well cool-looking type or your average guy type, these guys aren't that big but average but one thing is for sure no girl has never gone for a shorter guy. Also there are also a fair amount of asian women with Caucasian men some even married and yes most of them are well built.
note that all the girls i mentioned are asian (malaysia).
have a nice day

You guys should really come to Sweden in that case, since the majority of women that I know and that I see hag around with very, now I mean very feminine guys. The exception of this is when girls have boyfriends that are a bit more "metal". And this is coming from a dude who's 6,4 (195cm) and isnt all that thin either.
But I mean its gotta have something to do with people you hang out and interact with. And if your a snob or not and there's loads of those over here too...

Don't mean to be rude OP i just think ur jealouse of the star craft geeks. I think u think you are better looking thus deserve a pretty girl.
Mate just remember most of theose girls are actors, they have loads of surgey and make up, they look real different IRL.
In regards to the question women like men who are nice to them, maybe they had a bad experience with masculine men thus want a guy who they percieve will treat them right.

That's a very good question??? why do they? well i believe it's because it's out of the norm because most asian's i have met are skinny and not very beefy so that could very well be it.

As an Asian woman, I think I naturally prefer effeminate men not because of a particular "effeminate man trait" but rather I hate over-the-top masculine men. To me, the super buff ones who [simply judging off appearance] only know how to work out seem less intellectual to me. It also is almost a little repulsive if they're super muscular because of how distorted/over the top that appearance looks. The body shape of a thinner man is usually an S-body shape (refer to many Kingdom Hearts characters) and many artists find that more attractive also.

Some women are afraid of masculine men, example me. More feminine looking men are cuter and makes them feel more comfortable. But this is just what I think.

What about the people who aren't either, if everyone is thinking that masculine means that you are super buff or something. Me, I'm in the middle, but leaning more to masculine, since I'm more fit that buff, but I don't have a pretty boy face.

hhhmmm... some prefer guys who looks slim yet has at least have some muscles... too buff guys is kind of a turn off. That's what I think. I guess ladies are more attracted to feminine looking men maybe because of lust? I'm not really sure but I just think we are attracted to cute/pretty things? So maybe its just attraction? For me the way I see it it's like I want to know what kind of person he is. It's like when I look at kpop guy groups they have some what feminine features but we can't help but be attracted to them and how they act/personality on stage. So maybe curiosity and attraction ^^

NOTE: man that has high in testosterone levels will exhibit manly features such as muscle mass, toned body, chiseled jaw, and pronounced eyebrow ridges. These features indicate a male with high testosterone. High testosterone means the man is healthy and will produce good offspring.New research suggests women from healthier countries prefer feminine men whilst those in deathtrap nations incline towards manly men.
University of Aberdeen researchers studied some 4,500 heterosexual women from 30 countries, aged 16-40.
The women were presented with 20 pairs of male faces; each pair consisted of the same face, but subtly altered to look slightly more “masculine” in one picture, and slightly more feminine in another, by modifying dimorphic facial traits such as brow or jaw line.
Their preferences were then compared to the health care statistics of their respective countries.
Researchers say they found a pronounced correlation between levels of healthcare and a preference for effete men, with a nation considered to have the “best” healthcare, Sweden, having 68% of its women prefer men with more feminine faces.
In the US, 48% of women preferred masculine men. Japan did not feature in the results, not that anyone doubts the inclination of its womenfolk towards sissy men.
Meanwhile, in Brazil, with the worst healthcare on offer in the sample, only 45% of the women preferred feminine men.
One researcher explains her interpretation of the results:
“The results suggests that as health care improves, more masculine men fall out of favour.
That could be why feminine looking movie stars like Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom are popular now compared with the likes of Clark Gable and Sean Connery in the past.”
She touts healthcare and not culture as a key determinant of what is considered attractive in a given nation:
“We found that women from countries with poorer health, which have higher mortality and increased incidence of communicable disease, were more attracted to masculine faces than women living in countries with better health.
People used to think beauty was arbitrary and that different cultures have different preferences.
However our research shows that preferences may instead be explained by responses to different environmental factors like a low level of health in the population.”
Such a study immediately falls foul of the “correlation does not equal causation” statistical mantra so often left out of science reporting, but the researchers aren’t having any of it:
“These new findings really do seem to show that preferences for different types of men in different parts of the world are linked to cross-cultural differences in health.
The effect remained even when we controlled for lots of other factors, such as cross-cultural differences in wealth.
Women often think of high-testosterone types as uncooperative, unsympathetic, philandering, aggressive and disinterested in parenting. In fact, there is evidence that they really do have more relationship problems than other men.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704100604575145810050665030.html
So to sum it up, when women are more likely to be in mortal danger they look for a masculine man to depend on. But if they are more likely to live all they want are feminine boytoys?????

I guess its because of the environment people are in that developed how our minds work? Like probably influence without being aware of it.
I also thing just because guys have feminine features it doesn't mean their sissies. I mean I know this guy who have feminine face, looks slim and I think his attracted but His scary when I see him in Judo, wrestling, and muay thai tournaments and his the captain in all those sports.
I just think its a attraction. Like guys some guys prefer girls who are slim, big/small breast, nice curves, young/old looking, blondes, or others things.

i find this topic very interesting since i'm an asian born in the west. actually i think the reason why EA girls prefer femine guys is that asian culture generally is much more focused in the family's future. in asia, the next generation is always more important than the current one. that's why asian (especially chinese) parents put so much effort in their kid's education and so on..
so i think a femine guy is considered being more caring for the family while a masculine one is more being related as being selfish.
hope i could help...

This might be considered an inappropriately simple answer given the complexity of the question, but I think it's mostly a fad.
While some mate-selection factors are somewhat universal (at least among humans), such as health and hygiene, many preferences are made by a combination of individual preference and social conditioning. IMO, people do tend to accept the general mate-selection preferences of their society or subsection thereof.
I don't think I've ever really seen preference by females for effeminacy within the Asian male population, but if it does in fact exist, I think it may very well be a feature that has developed over the last decade or two, and may not last more than another decade or two.
