Why do we like the Anime Style [9/24 Edit]
0
So we all like anime, or at least I'd assume we all like anime. But what actually drags us to watch anime? Most people would say that anime is just the same thing over and over again, because of the drawing of anime. It's the usually the use of tones/colors and the big eyes that define anime the most if you went to asked normal person. Why do we like that? It seems that it is general the same art again with a differnt story.
For me, if there's an anime character on something like T.V., I would immeditaly pull all my attention to it, others around me are like that too. I guess if you had to compare, let's take Powerpuff Girls and PPGirls Z. If you never either before in your life, which would you be more attracted to watch? edit: Would you watch the an anime show, say Clannad, even if it was drawn like Spongebob or something?

So ultimately, why do we like the Anime Style?
EDIT:
Another question that popped in my head. Okay, not a question but a statement. What do you think about it?
Guitar is to Bass as [American Hero Comics/Art Style in the 50's to 70's] is to Anime.

So far, every anime styled show Ive ever seen has far more interesting characters and a far more interesting storyline than most of the stuff broadcasted where I live. So I guess we associate that type of storytelling with the anime style. I guess it depends what anime you started watching, because the first animes I watched were absolute crap and I had a negative view on anime until my friend got me to watch NG Evangelion, which was still kinda crap at the ending but it brought me back.
There are only very few shows originating in America that I try to watch.
Dexter being one of them. [size=10](No not Dexter's Laboratory, Dexter, the show about a serial killer who kills serial killers)[/h]

I'm into it for the detail visually and for the stories. And the sounds! Holy ramen, I love some of the sounds that come in anime. Half the reason I watched Noein was for the sounds. I don't know the other half, but the sounds were awesome.

You know they don't call Manga for japanese cartoons. That's just how fans describe it to people who don't know what Manga is. When you pick up a manga pocket at a store it is described as an GRAPHICAL NOVEL.
Thus it's heavier then real comics.
Now, as for art.. Let's compare some famous cartoon with their anime version
Yeah anime needs better skills, it also has more shapes and emotions then some plain stick cartoons. No offense I love the simpsons but... anime style ftw.

I love anime because I live in Asia. I don't know much about western animations. Since I was a kid, my family always showed me japanese animation (anime) like Doraemon, Ninja Hattori-kun, etc, but they just showed me a little about western animation like Popeye, Donald Duck, etc, but they never told me those are called western animations.
After I already watched some and known the differences between Anime and western animation, I realized that anime is more interesting for me, especially for the characters, art, story, and many genre variations.
The only thing that I love from western animations is when they made 3D animation for the movies. I love their 3D animation movies, but not the 2D one.
No offense, really, but that's the truth. ^_^

i here do reckon it be summin like this
due to majority of us growing up without anime (don't quote me on this) i reckon no matter how old you are if you see summin like anime on tv for the first time your curiosity will take over then it is all down to the persons taste of tv, whether you like it or not that dertemines if you will continue to watch anime
personally i like anime for 3 reasons
1.the animation style - no where else in the world will you get animation like japan
2.the plots - well lets face it cartoons and tv nowadays consist of what - stupidity and nonsense
3.the music - COME ON ... i mean who don't like anime soundtracks???

4: The language, or maybe it's just the acting that's superior but anyhow English doesn't cut it in my opinion.

Perhaps because we all watched cartoons as kids and as we grew older we grew out of them but then we discovered anime; cartoons but with more mature themes.

I like anime because of its style, its more intuitive well thought out plot as opposed to generally no plot in america, the music is generally better, and .... i hate america in general =P

People take it more seriously, from the creators to the final viewer, American cartoons aren't as SRS BUSINESS.
This adds to the standards of quality, the skill of the teams, and variety of story.
American ones are defined by Bugs Bunny and Peter Griffin.

Also many of the shows I see on T.V. (that aren't anime) just use constantly recycled ideas for each episode or they try to be too many things at once.
I mean, If I want pure comedy I don't want some show that has a little comedy, with some romance, in the same settings every other episode, that try to teach a lesson/moral(more prominent in children shows) etc.
I would want something like Miname-Ke which basically stays entirely comedy for every scene in each epsiode

I guess it's just because I like Anime so much that very few "normal" styles really do anything for me. It's the Anime style of drawing than lured me into downloading a lot of very stupid MMO's that you see advertised in random banners.

Yes I agree with this post.
