Why does America seem crazy?

Or is it just me? I'm the average working college student from a quiet town in America. Now it may be my intake of television, but doesn't there seem to be a lot of hate going on?
It maybe the result of tough times here; putting the blame on someone or something solidifies the problem, makes it killable. Or maybe we're just impatient, didn't it take a World War to get America out of the Depression...ALRIGHT WHERE'S MY ORDER? I PUT IN IN LIKE 2 MINUTES AGO. I WANT TO SEE THE MANAGER.
Not to mention crazy people are for some reason just yummy camera fodder(I wonder if they release some fresh baked cookie scent?).
I don't know; does anybody else see this or do I also smell like oven fresh cookies(that wouldn't be too bad..)?

That America for you. I think some said that people in the U.S fuck with each other out of boredom, but once someone outside the us fucks with us we unite to destroy our enemies then go back fucking with each other.. it the American way.

Dude, it's the media. They ALWAYS make a big fuss out of anything and everything. Just ignore it and go by your own convictions.

Nah man youre right, America is going crazy. Take it from an immigrant that has 2 jobs in a time were most Americans cant even find one. They like to point fingers and say, its his fault. All i can say to them, is that politics does help those who fit in it, but in this world it is still survival of the fittest.

The ones going mad are the ones thinking America has gone crazy, only those who believe too much say such madness.

Although I am not sure if this thread should belong to the Serious Discussion section, I am going to give it a chance to see how things develop.
In my opinion, everyone has complaints about their own country and/or government. Some people may complain about war and unrest within their own nation, others may be concerned about the overwhelming number of immigrants entering their homeland. Our own efforts can make a difference at times, but some circumstances may also be beyond our control.

Meh the news only reports the controversial stuff that is how they make money.
America is a place run by big business and corporate interest.
All the politicians are bought out before they even get a seat in the House, Senate or any other position.
I am hoping for a revolution and an over throwing of the establishment in my lifetime.
Americans won't do much until you start taking away their TV remotes and other entertainment.
Once that happens they can be just as crazy as an angry mob at a soccer game.
Obama just gives in to the Republicans who are controlled by big business.
And the Republicans won the House so your going to see another 2 years of nothing getting done except more benefits to the rich and complete blindness to the poor and middle class.
What makes me think people in general are crazy is that they let things slide by so easily.
We are getting robbed so bad that our children and children's children will feel the reciprocations.
People like Countrywide CEO Angelo Mozilo can rob the people out of hundreds of millions and then get away with it.
High position holders in banks can take huge risks with our money and take no responsibility for their actions. They aren't losing their money but ours.
They will still leave with a profit while everyone else is screwed.
The system is screwed up and corrupt beyond belief yet no one seems to be doing anything.
It seems like common sense that money and power rules all and is above the law but everyone must be stuck in fantasy land.

Well, honestly sometimes I like to think that I'm not entirley sane, because that would explain the way I think a lot of the time.

I blame the public education system. when i was in school, it was more about sit down and shut up than acctual learning. i saw countless idiots skate through by parroting the half assed or blatantly false information in the text books. but when i asked questions that weren't covered in the 'accepted' material, i was labled a trouble maker and punished.
it also makes good business sense to keep the masses stupid. you get a work force too ignorant to question corprate policies and practices. and it's much easier to sell crap to morons. same goes for government, easier to manipulate people who only know what you tell them.

The general overlook of America nowadays is that it's yet another falling empire; incompetent governing, poor education, corrupt businesses, exaggerated focus on media/entertainment, the Tea Partyers, the Recession- the like.
Basically a metaphor for the classic axiom of people getting drunk on their own power, and the consequences when it is allowed to go unchecked.
It's very easy to be pessimistic about the whole thing.
However, the States are by no means alone in their misery- but they do get the spotlight, by virtue of being a major superpower.
And- while the solutions may seem very obvious to some people- they have no idea how difficult it is to actually rule a country.
Changes could be made, these problems could be fixed- but it would require an amount of ruthlessness. A government that is purely utilitarian, with no regard to the people's morale.
Try to please everybody and you end up pleasing nobody.
I may post my personal suggestions on how to handle things, but it'd be one heckuva massive wall of text.

Nothing is perfect, there are always going to be problems and complaints. When you live in the age of mass media, these problems are going to be magnified many times over. Every fault and problem in your life is now sprinkled with the problems of every news story and rumor of trouble that you catch wind of.
People get anxious, try to fix the problem, and when they can't find an easy solution, they start to group people together and put the blame on them. Us vs them, we aren't the problem - they are.
Two sides are formed, and everyone gets mad at each other and loses respect for anyone on the other side.
All because the world isn't perfect, and people don't sit well with that. That in itself isn't a bad thing, it is the way we have handled it.

No no no, to me, America does seem crazy. Actually, it seems more hypocritical than anything else. Too bad for us the politicians and government officials dont make the United States any less crazy or hypocritical.

Why does america seem crazy... thats like asking why so many other countrys hate us..
Our society is flawed on so many levels... Our goverment makes decisions based on indviduals in power protecting their intrests before the intrests of the people... the citizens for the most part are lazy, ignorant, good for nothing people(now mind you not everyone is, but more are than arent) i mean a great example is look at the way kids act now days... and these kids will be the ones in our goverment when im old...yea thats a comforting thought. i could easly do massive wall of text on this subject but im not going to waste everyones time... long story short.. the people make the decisions, in where the nation goes, but the people dont even know whats best for them... to be compltely honest

Crazy? There are a lot of justifiably angry and frustrated people out there, and there is a lot of misinformation and miscommunication. Passion manifests itself in protest, ignorance in rhetoric. And all of it is fuelled and advertised by the media.
Sure, there are some monumentally, dangerously misguided people out there, but they represent a minority of the groups they claim to represent. The majority of the people, from my perspective, are simply suffering and malcontent.

The proliferation of comfort-based motivation leaves us vulnerable to our own undoing, i think america exemplifies this.

I wouldn't call America crazy
I think a lot of hate for America comes from a long while back, because no one like the Americans except for their own purposes, to counterbalance each other. Now that America is the strongest, its pissing off the other countries. I also think that some of their anger is well founded. Seriously speaking, Americans piss me off, and I'm an American. A lot of stupidity goes on in this country
Also, because America is strong, other countries get pissed off. It gives americans a rather distasteful conceit you see. Look at the Iraqi war, and the Vietnam War.
Thirdly, Americans have always been bellicose, look at the bullshit Mexican-American war, the ridiculous Spanish War, some of the stupid biased treaties and agressiveness in America's past, and its just ridiculous. America has never been a nice place.

I really can't say why, since I don't think it is. Out of everyone I've ever met there have been one or two that were unreasonable, but that's not enough to say America is crazy... Don't use the media as reference, its nothing but lies...

I'd say America seems crazy because it doesn't prevent the crazy people from having their voices heard. Freedom of Speech is abused like you cannot possibly imagine.
There are still many governments in the world that consider it a crime to speak out against the government.
It's just statistics. You have a sample of three hundred million people, and if three thousand start saying crazy things, it seems like a lot, when in fact it's only a thousandth of one percent of the people.
Referring to two posts above me...America has never been weaker in recent memory. Struggling economy (though Europe's worse), seemingly indecisive about foreign policy in the Middle East and North Korea, letting North Korea push you around, threatened by China for control of the waters in Southeast Asia, immigration problems that people demand be solved and yet when a solution is offered the people cry invasion of privacy, etc.

Too much stupid shit goes on in this country, to the point where I don't even affiliate with a political party anymore because everyone has some bat-shit crazy ulterior motive to their fuckin' agenda.

That I find fault with. I think it's good that Americans are allowed to speak ill of the government. The problem is that words never solved anything, action does, which is what's lacking in this horribly dysfunctional country. Not advocating extremist action, though, that never did anyone much good.

As said above. They have the loudest voice. So they're heard the most. And in comes the media to throw everything out of proportion as if on cue.

Yes, it's rather confusing as to why we can't take a solid stance on ANYTHING these days.

Everyone here has great points, that all lead to one conclusion: people don't think as much as they should. Because of the lack of critical thought, people will jump to incorrect conclusions, an some will act on them. Sometimes this action is speaking out, sometimes it's yelling it out, and sometimes it's going to patrol the border with guns as a militia. Now, as was previously stated, there's plenty of people that aren't crazy, they're just normal, everyday people. These people still don't think as much as they should, but they're just not... stupid isn't the right word... naive, maybe? Yeah... naive enough to act on what they hear spewed forth from the media and politicians.
People need to realize that if they thought more, and reacted less to the inane banter of the media, the media would stop reporting on such trivial issues and making them seem like huge problems. This would also lead to a more enlightened political system, as the politicians wouldn't have to cater to the people who complain without knowing.
Basically: take the time to think, and take the time to help those around you start thinking too. If everyone did this, the world (or at least our country) would be a much better, happier place. ^^
