Okay then. Why doesn't music matter? Please cite your refernces.
On the statement of "I just like what I like because it sounds good." Well that is only one of many odd things about music. Certainly there is a connection between There is somethings that you like, others that you don't, and not everyone shares the same opinion, but why is that? It would be easy to say "Well because everyone has different taste." But that isn't entirely true, we have large groups of people that have the same taste and certain sounds - like a screeching heavy metal guitar solo - sound agreesive universally. So then music also becomes objective.
Certainly, a chamber piece by brahms is "better" than the muzak at walgreens. A we apply objective stanards to music as well. There are music reviewers, a rating system on itunes, we consider certain people "musical geniuses" like beethoven.
Not only do we apply these standards, but there is a platonic essence that is inate that defines what is and is not music. Certainly nobody would consider a speech by president bush to be musical while obviously "hey jude" is a piece of music.
Poetry is not music either, so then one would say you need instruments. But of course we had a capellas, and ambient soundtracks of the rain forest. We can understand what is and is not music easily despite our taste.

Music is not a mistery to me, i think it's a way to communicate, with a song we can identify ourselves, we can reconginze something that happend tu us or something that we feel, music it's a very powerful thing.

This question goes along with why humans find anything aesthetically pleasing. Why do some sports cars look cooler than others? Why are some girls cuter than others?
Like those questions I've thought about why I prefer some music over others, and quite honestly I really don't know. I can try to analyze and break it down and say, "I like it because of the beat, the motifs and the performance of the vocalist" etc. but it still doesn't explain why I like the rhythm or the beat in that certain fashion.

Music matter because we make it matter.(cheesy?)
It matters to me because I can be entertain, as well as express myself, or send a message in a lyrical sense.

I like this thread +rep for the idea :)
I cant say i know too much about music, but i can say that i do appreciate it
Music is like every other mystery of life, it cannot be fully explained or fully understood.
Why people like certain music is probably because there is an aspect of it they like, they may like it because the beat is slow or fast, lyrics are sweet and soft or intense and loud. Its can be also something they relate with and which is why we like to listen to certain music over and over again.
As for me, i like music cause it cancels out the noise caused by the cars honking their loud horns and people yelling at the train station

Music
M- Makes the world inside our mind seem more fun
U- Undeniably needed by mankind to kill time and soothe the soul
S- Sends one self into a world of creativity that sharpens the senses
I- Intelligently motivate the listeners to be more creative and find a goal in life
C- Cares for all who listen to it without discriminating anyone.
I myself think music is now a necessity in life rather than being a wanted hobby.

Hmm... I once saw a documentary about music...
I don't remember too much from it but i can remember a little!...
Females and males get attracted by music...
When to people sing together they get some kind of special bond you can't get from anywhere else...
Music gives you a kind of sexual tension when you listen too it... It stimulates your brain in different ways and different genres of music stimulates the brain different than other genre's
And people with a disease that makes them forget the past remembers music from when they were younger even though they should have forgotten it like all their other memories
But only humans get all these tensions, feelings and stimulation's other animals doesn't
And i personally think there is no bad music or good music
of course there is some music i don't like...
Like Jazz or Pop >.<
And i like more wild stuff like Death Metal, Metalcore ect. And i think its good
But if i ask someone else they might think it sucks D:
I use music to express my feelings and emotions...
We all have different tastes in music

Kind of Important
A ray of Tsunlight.
My music scares old people and children. And gets me strange looks from those who can't understand it. (usually gets called something along the lines of "devils music") but fuck them. I love my music, and one of my favorite things to do if I'm pissed, or just feeling shitty for some reason is to sit down and listen to some of my music. It's really calming. (To me at least)

There is something deeply mysterious about music. Why does it affect us so powerfully? Is it like a language, telling us something? A subtle form of communication? Are there universal interpretations of the emotions that various pieces of music expresses? Or does one need to be part of a music "community" in order to appreciate musical expression?Still, despite it's prevalence in our lives artist and scientist agree on this - we know so little about music, and the more we learn about it the less we know.
Can any sound be considered music? Does it have to be in the right context to be "real" music? And what classifies "good" and "bad music? Or more importantly, "Happy" and "sad" or "funny" and "scary" music?
Let's start by trying to define music and then give your philosophical thoughts on how it plays part in our lives and why it is able to do so.
I have no idea what music is or why it does what it does. However, the thing I do know about music is that it is a piece of work similar to a writing(Novel,Manga,Anime etc.). I say this because it messes with my emotions rivaling that of a good manga. I guess different songs do different things to different people. Also for good music and bad music the only music I can in my own opinion deem bad is Rap. I have talked to some of my friends who listen to Rap but they normally listen to underground. The reason for this is because all of the mainstream Rap seems to be Bitches,Hoes,Killing,Sex,Cars and Money. Sorry but for me i don't give a shit about those kinds of things. My friends say they listen to underground because its the little bit left that still makes you think on an intellectual level. I was watching an old show on Chris Rock the other night and it was funny he even said that he loved Rap music but was tired of defending it because of how its turned from intellect to personal possessions.

I think theres some sort of mystery or something that makes human love good music and find them appealing. We are attracted to various creative arts like pictures/novels/TV show etc, and I believe music is one of them.
Music matter because we enjoy them. Just like people who choose to eat good delicious food rather then nutritional bars for a living.

Without music, I would have gone mad a long time ago. It's a type of power that adheres to the brain directly. It's pleasing to listen to, it conveys a message in a way that almost forces you to listen. It imprints itself onto you.
We all have our own tastes though, I for example enjoy classical piano, as well as Broadway music above all other artforms. I'll still listen to damn near everything, but given the choice, give me Bach's 1st over ACDC's Big Balls any day.
