Why is it acceptable...?
Do you think the difference in severity between racial slurs is acceptable?

...for blacks to call whites "crackers" while its extremely serious for whites to call blacks "niggers" ?
These two racial slurs are both used with the same mentality, with the only exception being one describes a majority while the other a describes a minority.
Is it not racist that a white being called a "cracker" isn't seen as serious while an Asian being called a "jap" or "chink" is?

For once i actually agree with you Harmonian.
I also find it very strange that it's racist for a white person to call a black nigger or something like that but not for a black to call a white cracker or something similar.
I think it's because the black is considered a minority and because of the history between black and white people.

Once again harmonian, I must agree. Not just because of team harmonian, but because I've actually thought about this question before.

I believe the word "nigger" holds a deeper meaning to these people because it goes a long way back into their history to the age of slavery. That may have been a very long time ago but these things have some meaning to others.
Cracker is for the slaver, I mean oppresor vs the oppresed... I think its better for me not to say anything further, I cant be fair anyway since im just getting emotional and not logical so, me fail

I'm guessing that's what's used justify it. Don't worry, that's not the only double standard around here.

The word "Nigger" should be an insult to white people lack of grammar. Considering the fact that when slavers went to Niger to get slaves they'd say "Nigger" meaning the can't fucking read.

On this one i actually agree with you Harmonian
I mean, i make race jokes a lot, but i don't put one racial slur above the other. Racism is stupid, no matter the races involved

I despise the concept of "races" altogether, so I agree with you.
I dunno why people even do that anymore... I can totally see that coming out of people's mouths in a confrontation, but to actually mean it? How retarded is that.

I get confused why abbreviations of where some ones from is offensive or slang for things from the country like "paki" meaning pakistany, "chinky" meaning chinese food. Those are probaly the most used words in Briting that are considered offencive.

In a fair world, no, it's not acceptable, in a world were the black people has suffer that much , i think it is. Over history we've called them much worse than that and we've DONE much worse, so even if it's wrong they kinda have the right.

People tend to let cracker slide as a pejorative due to the etymology. Various theories make it less of an insult and simple description. I'll use example from wikipedia for simplicity.
The main theory is that slaver foremen in the antebellum South used bullwhips to discipline African slaves, with such use of the whip being described as 'cracking the whip'. The white foremen who cracked these whips were thus known as 'crackers'.

he term comes from the common diet of poor whites. According to the 1911 edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica, it is a term of contempt for the "poor" or "mean whites," particularly of Georgia and Florida. Britannica notes that the term dates back to the American Revolution, and is derived from the cracked corn which formed their staple food. (In British English "mean" is also a term for tightfistedness, with no malice implied.

This is exactly the sort of thinking the reason why asian kids are being bullied. What, blacks now have the "right" to bully asian kids because their great great grandfather was a slave? Christ, that's dumb.

in a world were the black people has suffer that much , i think it is.So you are saying that since they were oppressed for so many years they have earned the right to be racist.
That due to the oppression they suffered they are superior to other humans of different skin tone...?

LordMaknirak wrote...
and we've DONE much worseYou are aware that whites were slaves as well...?
Up until the discovery of the Americas, instead of black slaves they were white slaves. Really, the practice of white slavery lasted much longer than the practice of black slavery.
So by yer' logic 1/0.

so even if it's wrong they kinda have the right.I'm going to make reference to a very common phrase, "two wrongs don't make a right."
Are you implying that the Jewish community deserves retribution upon the Germans, regardless of whether or not those Germans had any involvement in the Holocaust.
Mind you these Jews, who by yer' logic deserve retribution upon the Germans, didn't face the horrors of the Holocaust themselves.
...or is it blacks are superior to Jews and as such Jews don't deserve the same rights of superiority that blacks do.
EDIT: It's being in the place of the others
Incoherent Babbling is the section above.

Ha! Your totally right, I actually wrote a thesis on this for a social studies class. Unfortunately, my teacher was black and got a C-. So when we presented our papers to the class after we got our grades, I used him as an example of my point. He threw a fit in the middle of class, and dmanded that I leave his classroom. I was sent in front of the school administration, where my teacher said I "singled him out" and that my "prejudiced, narrow-minded" paper was meant to cause him "racial discomfort." Luckily, Im pretty sure our administrator was a racist, because he told my teacher to get out of his sight and demanded that my paper be graded by an unbiased teacher. I ended up getting switched out of the class, and i got an A on the paper!
But that just strengthens my point that even today, after all of the apologies and repayment weve offered, some people still harbor racial feelings.
Good post, I almost never get to tell this story :)

Since, y'know, we've been getting worse treatment going back millenia?... Just saying.
Short version: think before you speak, research before you present. Good day, sir.

I'm not saying that I agree or disagree with you, but think about this:
If a black person gets called a nigger, how does that make him feel?
If a white person gets called a cracker, how does that make him feel?
I'm white, and if someone calls me a cracker, I don't care. The word has no impact, since it's not tied to anything, and it's just silly. Imagining a giant cracker really takes all the power out of it, too.
But if I was black, and someone called me a nigger, I'd be pissed. Because it has a very large impact. Blacks have made it very clear that they greatly dislike the word, and for good reason, and to use it shows a huge amount of disrespect. (It's not like whites ever stood up as a group and said, "We hate being called crackers. It is very hurtful.") The word "nigger" is tied to the days of slavery and oppression, the days when blacks were worked to death and whipped like a horse and killed for trying to be free, the days when blacks couldn't even drink from the same fountain as whites, the days when blacks were seen as less than human by mainstream society and even the government.

Just saying that comparing "nigger" and "cracker," you can see that one is much more serious than the other.
Not saying that "cracker" cannot be offensive or a serious thing, but generally, the word "nigger" has a greater impact.

No, that isn't what they think. They have been conditioned to feel that the word "nigger" is offensive and they react as such.
The reason this belief isn't challenged is because of all that which you mentioned.
