Would you push the button?
Would you push the red button?

Have any of you seen the trailer to the new movie 'The Box'? From what I understand, a couple in the movie one day have a box standing on their doorstep. Inside the box is another box with a big red button on.
Now to the dilemma: Later, they get to know that if they push thew button, they will get one million dollars, and also that one person in the world, one that they don't know, will die. Nothing will happend to you, even if someone else presses the button after you. This scenario is juast about morals; is another humans life forth more than your money? Oh, and you only have 24 hours to decide if you will push it.
Question is the poll, what is your reasoning?
For me, I just have to say this:
1. I would push the button, cause I don't care if someone that I don't know about dies, and I will get rich if I do. Totally worth it, I wouldn't hold a grudge if someone else did the same and I was the one who ended up dead. ... Well, maybe if they guy's already a rich troll, then I'd haunt him.
2. If I got a box with a big red button, no description or anything, my curiosity would kill me.

Heh, my philosophy professor once told us about a similar dilemma, which was from the show "The Twilight Zone."
Same box with the button concept, except it was some guy who gives you the box and says that after a day he will return for it. Press it, get a million. Don't press it, you sleep knowing you killed no one. Let's say you press it, he gives you your million and tells you that he's going to give the box to someone else. I don't know if this was from the show or not: the next guy that presses the button kills the previous guy who had the box.
In the case you describe, it's not much of a moral dilemma for me, as I care not for anyone who isn't my friend or in my family.

That makes it a bit harder to decide indeed.

Why don't you push the button yourself and move far away before the guy comes to get the box, since you have a million dollars.

It's best not to fuck with the guy who gave you a supernatural box.

lol my cold, cold heart says I would press it.... I may feel guilty at night, but hey.. money can buy a very nice bed.

I'd push it knowing certain that if I didn't somebody else would've, possibly resulting in my dying due to it. (Even though that chance is next to impossible, it's still possible.)
Besides that person who dies as a result can at least take heart in the fact that they died for a good cause, my financial well being. I'm so selfish.

Yeah, you would not be able to avoid the guy who gave you what is basically death's nutsac. And the only way you would not be killed by the next guy to get the box is if you were the first one to use it. My money is on that the guy who gave it to you used it first.\
I would push it.

Don't you mean that you have to be the last person to press the button?

I think I would not. My morals make me feel as a more significant person then most of the people around me, monkeys they are. If I start sacrificing innocent people for my own gain, I'd be nothing more then them.
Although I would keep that button somewhere, for worst case scenarios of course.

My brain is not with me. Yeah you are right, the LAST one to use it.

I'll win double if the button kills the guy that gave me the box in the first place. However, my morality will probably get the best of me once again and I will either destroy the box or hide so no one else can use it to kill.

I forgot to add, you only have 24 hours to decide. Will add it to the OP =)

Hm....if it was just a box, a button and no description, I'd press it.
If I knew some innocent(presumed) person was going to die, I won't. Honestly, a million dollars isn't worth that much anymore and I'd probably only get an apartment or condo.

Depends. I'd be a bit paranoid, and in the end wouldn't probably press it, just in case its a box like Rbz describes...
But if its just a one-time happening and I was the chosen one, then yeah, I would press it.
But I just got an idea. What if it was your best friend that got the box, and you gotta convince him/her not to press the button, because if he does, you die, but if he doesn't, he dies. Of course, one of the rules is that you cant say it to him, or both will die. You just gotta convince him without actually telling him why. What would you do? /threadjacking

I'd probably let him press it. I'm not gonna sacrifice my best friend over my own life. At least one party will get the million dollars instead of no money and 1 death.
If I'm in a rage against him and I wanna live, I'd tell him that if he pushes the button, I'd kill him and I'd say this with a loaded gun to his head. : x Pressing the button will kill me and not him so....yeah.
Lies are ok right?

I'd have to say no. I couldnt live with the fact that I killed someone. it could be a friend or family. and plus i would feel bad if i just killed someone.
