1 hour in.
Loving the combat so far.
The game is obviously a sequel since they're talking about stuff the player has no clue about but it's not that bad. Main character is suffering from amnesia so it's supposed to help newcomers somehow.
Regarding fan service, it's not "forced" like in AT3... Some of the girls do wear some outrageous outfits but so far everything's pretty mild altough I haven't done the purification stuff yet where all the supposedly hardcore fan service resides in.
Only downside I've noticed is the sloppy framerate whenever you're moving. I heard that it's because they were forced to release the game in hasty manner. Nothing game breaking since battles work just fine.

TK didn't mess anything up, did they? No censorship, content removal, added bugs or anything else I should be worried about, right?

Spoiler:
EDIT
Okay so I realized the prequel is actually a visual novel type of game and someone took great care to actually translate IN DETAIL every event of Ciel nosurge:
http://www.unit03.net/view/Ciel_nosurge/Summary it's with images and in-game videos.
So I've decided to put a hold on Ar no Surge since it actually is recommended to read Ciel beforehand to enjoy Ar at 100% (as opposed to 30%).
There are like 12 chapters and it could take a few hours to read all of it OR you can read the short version here http://pastebin.com/egW4rhTK, either way DO READ ONE OF THE TWO BEFORE PLAYING AR NOSURGE. I chose to read the full version because I want to fully enjoy Ar nosurge, especially after all the praise it's getting.

My copy of Ar noSurge arrived today, but I'm keeping it in its packaging still because I want to play Ciel noSurge first and its not localized yet.... >

Unless they include it in the Ar nosurge+ Vita version (it won't) and that gets localised... Which is why you should totally read the thing (first link) in my previous post.

Good thing I'm stubborn.
I have heard news that they're making Ciel noSurge Offline which gives me hope that it will get localized.

I've finished reading up about Ciel, only to discover there are 12 manga chapters relaying the final events of Ciel Nosurge and the start of Ar nosurge.
I feel like I'm never going to play Ar at this rate lol. Thankfully the manga it's fairly short.
EDIT: eh actually turns out it isn't that important to read.

Just placed an order for this and Neptune Re;Birth 1 on amazon. It might be possible for Ciel no Surge Offline to get localized. I don't know, I'm importing it either way.

To further my answer about the English localization, it's actually a bit dissapointing, errors everywhere.
Because AT3 was your first experience with the series, it is completely understandable. Some of us who followed them since the first find it hard to shake off the feeling that AT3 was a degeneration from the greatness (the actual, unshat-on) AT2 brought over and so we're rather annoyed. As a whole it could've been the all-time great in terms of beauty of the sounds, the ranges of emotions covered and storytelling.
But with all the moaning sluts and immaturity? A set of merely enjoyable games.
I was wrong, no more moaning sluts and immaturity. This game takes itself seriously and rightly so. Ciel has a very solid story that should please every fan of the series. It has a strong emphasize on the worlds technological know how that often gave noobies to the series like me trouble to understand. I'm serious, most of their explanation sounded like technobabble to me. Despite that the characters were great, the plot was interesting and from what I saw in the sequel, it only gets better. I, who enjoyed AR3 now realise how much of an injustice that episode was to the series. I don't know how great ar2 was but if people are to be believed then nosurge is up there. You should totally jump in, the hypeis justified.
That said, when I'm done with nosurge, I'll give AR2 a try. I did play AR1 a little but dropped it a few hours in.

Interesting. I shall give the Ciel link a try and purchase Ar if that satisfies. I looked at the very first section and while I saw no signs of greatness yet, it was a very Ar tonelico-esque opening.
A statement which would've been a hearty praise had a certain title not been the way it was. Sigh, how I wish they'd ditch the fanservice completely. Why do they choose to sully such great stories and songs, I don't understand.
Oh and I can't stress enough when it comes to starting At2; wait. It'll be worth it.

I don't talk to fodder NPC a lot so I didn't really notice immediatly but thanks to TK's awesome localization, they all talk backwards.
Usually it goes like:
(1)I wonder what I'm going to eat tonight.
(2)Alright, it will be fish!
But in the game (1) and (2) are reversed lol.
