Cheat Codes We Miss You
0
Has anyone else noticed that cheat codes are all but dead now a days? I for one miss them I loved having blast after beating a game running around in god mode with infinite ammo. Flying around in low gravity and having a blast with the game in a new way.
There are some exceptions such as fallout 3 and the console commands letting you do what you want. Most games though don’t have cheat codes even if they say they do like COD4 and the video filters. Though COD WAW was close with the death cards that made the game harder, would have been a cool addition had it had cheat code that made it easier. Still most games no longer have them and I feel as if the games today are missing something dose anyone else feel the same?

Cheat codes are fun only and I mean ONLY if you've actually beaten the game and use it afterwards. Unless it is random stuff like NBA jam with those big heads or whatever then cheat codes I think aren't necessary but can be fun to mess with.
Cheats like infinite ammo makes the game...well boring and to easy. Sure a game can be hard but it needs to be challenging. But after completing the game at least once it is nice to use to see how the toughest opponents can be easily brought down.
Now if there are no way to obtain something other than cheating aka referencing pokemon for not being able to capture or seen, then I can see it being more useful. But even then I wouldn't want to obtain through cheat devices/codes.
My opinion could be mostly influenced from playing Diablo with all the hacks and cheats people use to play it and making near impossible to tell what items are possibly legit.

I agree with Gin. Cheats were fun after you finish the game. Gives you more gameplay for your money.
Only game that I own on next gen system that uses cheats is Jericho. But you actually need to cheats to beat the freakin' game.

I like how most games for systems (360 comes in mind particularly) don't allow it, or will disable achievements because of it. They know that there are a lot more people to cheat through a playthrough than are willing to admit. Not nearly everyone does it for fun after they have completed a game.
Ironically they still work for everything in The Orange Box and it doesn't disable achievements. <.<

there are still cheats it games, I will agree with you that they are sort of phasing out. In these days (my god that sounds like an old-guy phrase) cheats are the product of the creative (i.e. third party software or hacking) or those willing to unlock the content (ex. COD 4 and its enemy intel) but cheat codes are still present, I would say less than before, but I don't really see it as a huge deal.

Clive Barker's Jericho? You needed cheats to beat that game? You must not have much experience playing truly hard games like Ninja Gaidan, Ghost and Gobblins and Castlevania games.
As far as cheat codes are concerned I don't really miss them. Only game I ever really used them in was GTA 3.

I have experience beating hard games like the ones you listed. Games with BS in it isn't hard. It's BS and annoying. Much like Vampire Rain. I don't bother with games like that. Unless a bet is in play.
And P.S.
Ninja Gaidan was NOT hard. Use your brain and you can beat it easily.

On the 360, there are some games you can buy cheats for, though. For example, Tales of Vesperia lets you buy gold, levels, costumes, and items using 360 points, or whatever they're called.
At least they still have cheat codes for the Pokemon games. If they think I'm buying two games to catch'em all, they're mistaken.

Ninja Gaidan Black and Sigma are indeed difficult. There is no one that has played those games and said meh it was easy. If they have they are a liar. Black is on IGN's top 10 list of the hardest games ever to beat. The series is the number 1 hardest games to beat on Games daily so I find it hard to think that you found it to be easy. Unless you played Ninja Gaiden 2 on the 360 with the easiest difficulty "Path of the Acolyte".
So yeah, forgive me for thinking that you're just blowing smoke when you say that a series that is known to be the hardest ever and has many sites backing that statement.

First, I never said Black OR Sigma. I did not state either one meaning I ment the original. Which, if you took the time to notice things, WAS easy after a couple deaths. Randomly dying wasn't a problem in Ninja Gaidan. I never played the others except 2, but I didn't really like it since it was just more of the same stuff. Which bores me. I wasn't trying to "blow smoke" I was telling the truth about the first game. I can't say anything else on any of the others.

It's funny how this topic was just made, as I remember reading Game Informer several days ago and reading the "Cheats" section, which has been primarily focused on tips recently. I remember the good old days of when a game was too difficult and I was forced to resort to cheats. Of course, these cheats are rarely needed nowadays, as games in my opinion have become easier over the course of multiple console generations. To answer your question, Gin, I say "Yes," without cheats I feel some small thing at the back of my head reminding me of such funs as anti-gravity and invincibility.

Also my mistake for thinking you ment the first game. I haven't played any of the others to a good extent so I can't judge the series as a whole. From what I hear it is indeed hard, but it'll bore me before it gets difficult. Therefore I never played any of the others. My apologies for assuming. :)

It may not be the funniest game ever but there is just an overwhelming since of satisfaction after you beat a boss that it makes all the cussing and rage quitting you do worth it. I think Black is harder but Sigma has the pretty (Graphics pretty) to go along that makes the satisfaction even better.
Here's hoping Ninja Gaidan 2 on the PS3 is going to be just as hard and even more satisfying. Glad I didn't get far into the 360 version and miss out on all the new stuff on the PS3 version.

Yes I mostly mean myself, but that is just a statement I am making. Not trying to force anyone to think different but just partially showing how I feel about cheats in general.
The only reason I would say games are easier is because gamers today have a higher level standard as we all should have a good degree of deciphering problems, hands-eyes coordination, and the like. Though there are some games where they are extremely hard or frustrating cause the amount of time you have to level grind or figure out the pattern to defeat a certain boss. Personally I prefer a challenge over an easy game where I can defeat it in less than a week or if it is that bad less than a day.
Also to respond to the Tales of series, I wouldn't really call that a cheat system but it kinda is at the same time. After beating most Tales of series you can use points to make your new game+ play through easier. Granted most cheats are use to make things easier, but with the Tales of series system it doesn't grant you everything like invincibility but can ease the process of progressing the game; also, this can actually make the game harder like 1/2 experience.

I'll throw it on my list, lol. Got about 40+ games for my 360 I haven't played yet(fucking WoW.....). But I did deeply enjoy beating each boss, turning off the game then taking a well deserved 14-hour nap :D I wanna do that again.

I really miss cheat codes. Sometimes you play a game and the story is awesome but the gameplay sucks...or is just repetitive. Sometimes a game had hilarious cheat codes that didn't really effect the gameplay in any way. And sometimes I want to enjoy my RPGs without all the damn grinding.
