Information

What are everyone's thoughts on this? I started playing Neptunia mk2 about a week ago and I really like it so far. It's not as bad as some people may think. The frame rate is indeed awful but it's still a fun game. My biggest complaint so far is the terrible script that NISA gave us. I'm tempted to go on a rant about it but I'll refrain from doing so. Just know this; it's bad. It's so bad that I've finally decided to start learning Japanese. Well, I did teach myself hiragana and katakana a few months ago but I'm going to study the language more seriously now.

Anyways, Fairy Fencer F looks pretty good so far. As usual, Tsunako's art is amazing and I'd probably import the game for her art alone.

Looks like a game with a serious plot unlike Mugen Souls or the Neptunia series. I Wonder how the battle system looks like, hoping they will improve the animations of it.

NISA is never not shit. They only stay in business because no one else wanna do what they do.

^this^. Well, i dunno about the last part of that statement, but NIS games tend to be pretty bad, imo (outside of disgaea).

*EDIT* Then again I do agree with OP's statement about the art. Lord know's I delve into alot of stuff just for the art, so I can't knock this too hard.

I hope you understand that NIS themselves really only developed the Disgaea series, its spinoff games, and some standalone titles like Soul Nomad. Most any other game known for being mediocre and has the NIS brand on it was most likely developed by someone like Gust, Compile Heart, Idea Factory, etc.

Let me clear this up for you.

NIS stands for Nippon Ichi Software. They're not shit. They're the Japanese developer that made games such as Disgaea, Phantom Brave, Makai Kingdom, and more.

NISA stands for Nippon Ichi Software America. They're shit. They're the American branch of NIS. All they do is localize games. They're awful because they over localize games straight to hell. Most of the scripts they give us are basically rewrites and not even translations at all. They add in their own jokes and "humor" that are not present in the original game. What's even worse than NISA is their faggot fan-boy following. These are the kind of people that think it's hilarious to post "XD" and "dood" everywhere. The only redeeming thing about NISA is that they retain the Japanese voice acting in the game.

I think people are mixing Compile Hearts and NIS as developers.

NIS is an ok company.
Compile Hearts are shit but it seems they're showing sign of improvements, hence me being a little bit interrested in this thread's game.

NIS is better than "okay" and I wouldn't really call Compile Heart (not plural) shit either. The only CH game I've played so far is Neptunia mk2 (still currently playing) and it's really not that bad. They're a developer that obviously appeals to a certain niche but they're not as bad as some may think. Well, in terms of technical aspects (like frame-rate) they are shit. Their games are extremely low budget after all. They definitely need to work on some things but they deserve at least a little credit for what they do. Though, maybe I should play more of their games first before I judge them.

Cross Edge
Hyperdimension Neptunia
Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2
Mugen Souls

Owned them all, only the last one was pretty decent. Of course, we all have different standards but for the average gamer, these are pretty awful. I keep buying them though because deep inside me, I was hoping to find that one game that could change my mind. Mugen Souls was kinda fun, and it was one of their "latest" works so like I said, hopefully they'll keep improving.

I did hear that the Agarest games were pretty bad and I don't think they look too great either. I think some of CH's Vita games were supposed to be pretty good though. I own Mugen Souls but haven't played it yet. I'm not saying CH is top tier or anything but I do at least think mk2 is decent. Again, maybe my opinion will change once I play more of their games. I don't really plan on playing the Agarest series or Cross Edge though.

Oh, your absolutely right, my mistake -_-U. It's just that lately there's been alot of mediocrities coming out with the NIS brand on it, but, just as you said, they are not the developers. My bad, lol.

On a side note just completed all the boss fights in Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory and ultimate weapons. I bought it back in Spring whenever it released. It was my first Compile Heart game and I felt it was pretty mediocre overall, but I did enjoy it nonetheless. It's not something I would recommend to someone who isn't a hardcore JRPG fan - tons of farming to get materials, directionless quests, etc.

Short Summary

What I liked:
-Boss Fights
-Combat System
-Some comedic scenes
-Numerous boss fights
-You can see panties when you jump. (I didn't notice this until it was said in the extra voices that you could.)
-Lots of things to collect

What I don't like:
-Too many recycled models/sprites.
-Same dungeons recycled over and over - not components of dungeons, the actual dungeons are recycled again and again.
-Neptune's annoying voice (JP - I didn't switch on the English voices.)
-Boss Fights become too trivial with endgame gear.

Looky-tan Got Megane?
Well, for starters I do intend to get this game at some point if not just for Tsunako art. Like Ammy I've been playing the Neptunia games and have loved them. What ever CH and NIS throws out I always end up getting... playing, is another thing (stares at my copy of Mugen Souls still in its package)

@Ammy
Wow...just wow, I lol'd hard at your summary of NISA. I am not against you in your thought process, but without them I don't get the game at all. Sure I could buy the JPN version and end up not knowing half of what's going on, but then I am not getting the story or characters. I need to accept that NISA is what it is and I have to keep throwing money at them when they localize a game I like.
Heck I had a friend who used to work there, he did QC on about 3 games I think, this is how I ended up getting a free copy of some games too. Seeing as how he did QC for so many hours, once he got his own copy of the game, he was tired of playing it so I got it from him.

I am most likely gonna get this game. Art looks good, and well its a RPG. I like Compile Heart games, I played most but not all.
Also for NISA, i'm fine with what they do. I dont know Japanese, honestly im just lazy to try to learn it I need some sort of push, I get the game and understand the story and enjoy it. Though I do agree that they recycle alot of stuff in their games, thats probably the only thing I dont really like
