Far Cry 3

One of the bigger surprises of E3 this week. Far Cry 3 made an appearence, complete with a gameplay demo. Once again, you're back to island hopping, this time at a remote island were insanity runs rampant. No word of whether there'll be monsters in this game, but judging by what the developers said about making the game realistic, it's kinda unlikely. I was a huge fan of Far Cry 2 and I'll definitely pick this up when it releases in 2012.
Amung the changes in this game include:
Enhanced stealth kills/assassinations (guy's fucking scary with a knife)
Weapon mods (silencers and the like)
A new cover system, complete with blindfire mechanics
Improved enemy movement/reactions.

That looked extremely fun...
Glad that they are back on a tropical island; Africa was rather too barren for me at times.
Hope that gameplay will be similar to what was shown on the trailer and not just fluffs... oh who am I kidding.

Almost forgot to mention. This game in the franchise is supposedly focusing more on story and character design. Based off of what I've seen from Vaas (the dude in the vid), they're doing a pretty good job so far. Haven't heard much on the games plot, but there's apparently some lady saving to be done as Jason (the MC) attempts to rescue his girlfriend. Also, I haven't heard any news about whether or not you can choose your characters, which was one of my favorite features in Far Cry 2. So far, the developers have been pretty tight-lipped on the subject, so it's really anyone's guess at the moment.

I've been anticipating this one, the second received far too much criticism. It did a lot of things wrong, but it also did a lot of things right, and as a result I felt it was the most successful FPS engine I've seen to date, with a fairly atmospheric adventure feel to it. Judging by the video I'm glad they've kept to this and not decided to take the activision approach and just make another annoying rail shooter. However two things concern me, the first being the rather bulky new HUD, part of what made Far Cry 2 was its impressive HUD. The other is the fact that I'm once again seeing no health bar. REALLY UBISOFT? like SERIOUSLY? you come up with the perfect health system and then you just throw it away for another shitty call of duty clone? I can't help but think this alone could ruin the entire game for me. Getting shot in your eyes and then hiding behind a box for five seconds to heal like you're mother fucking wolverine or something is NOT REALISTIC.
On a lighter note, wasn't this originally set in the arctic?

Spoiler:
I completely agree with you. Far Cry 2 really nailed the ways you can approach a situation, either through sniping, using stealth and silenced weapons, or just strap a few IEDs on a moving car, bail out, and let the explosion reign chaos as you tear the enemies apart. That said, they kinda messed up on the weapon balancing. Some guns are practically one hit kills, whereas others need to empty an entire clip into a man's torso to kill him. I also didn't like the lack of friendly AI. Not to steal any lines from Yahtzee, but it really did seem as if everyone in that game had your photograph with a note saying "Kill this fucker" written on the back. But the biggest problem to me was how much time traveling to your objective took from your gameplay. I'd probably go and say that a good 60% of FC2 is spent simply traveling to your next objective, not counting the time spent when under attack whilst traveling.
For this game, I'm actually a little indifferent on the regenerating health. I'd prefer it if they kept the FC2 health system, but I never ran out of syringes enough for it to really make a notable difference to me. Though, it was always cool as fuck to see your character dig a bullet out of his hand, jerk his bones back into place, or rip a bit of wood out of his leg. On second thought, with that now in mind, I might indeed miss the FC2 health system.
And I don't know about anyone else, but I originally heard speculation that Far Cry 3 was supposed to be located in the jungles of Asia. Just the same, I'm always game for a well built jungle environment.

Yeah, I kind of wish they took it a step further with the whole bleeding out thing. They had a really interesting mechanic going on there, but it wasn't nearly harsh enough. As for the syringes, I just never purchased the upgrades to handicap myself. I'm pretty sure almost everyone agrees that the AIs were too hostile, but I actually liked the travelling in that game. At no point did I really ever feel safe, so it was almost like an adventure getting there in itself.

I can see a little Splinter Cell: Conviction ideas in there with the WARNING and DETECTION meters.
To me Far Cry 2 was only fun when I went exploring, getting new guns, killing shit, and probably operating vehicles. The story wasn't all that appealing and it was buggy itself; the game keeps crashing and closing on me and sometimes some side missions are gone when I leave the game and come back.
From the looks of Far Cry 3 they seemed to fix some stuff. If not fix then did better.
I think they removed the, what I call, extreme healing system. We may not see our character remove bullets out of their wounds, fix misplaced joints and bones, and remove 3 inch nails out of the web between their fingers ever again. Fuck.

I didn't get Far Cry 1 because I heard the second hardly related to the first. So, sadly, I wouldn't know

Good game mang. If it's me we're talking about I'd say it beats Half life on several levels, though I imagine if I say that too much valve fanboys will start throwing crowbars at my house.

Getting back on topic, yeah I'd get Far Cry 3... just not instantly.

Well, considering that you're a new character, and that Malaria isn't exactly the most rampant of diseases, it's safe to assume that the Malaria pill-popping game mechanic is gone. Besides, Malaria isn't fun, so why should it be in a game? It was just put in Far Cry 2 as a plot device for your character.

I loved the malaria (yes I defend absolutely everything about that stupid game)
Seriously, something about it gradually getting worse and handicapping the player throughout the story somehow touched me. It gets to the point where you can barely run and your character ultimately realizes there's no escape.
And yeah, that OH SHIT I'M OUTTA PILLS feeling

Wow. I'm so going to buy and play this game when it's out. The good thing is that there's only 1 playable person in this one.

Norse God of Sawdust
The main baddie dude probably has one of the best script/voice acting rants I've ever seen in a FPS.
If they maintain that level of quality in the actual game, I'll be buying it.

Vaas is looking to be an awesome villian and an excellent example of a believably insane character. All they need to do is to write him into the game in such a way where he can get a good amount of screen time, yet not seem like he was forced in without any real purpose for being there.

Kind of Important
A ray of Tsunlight.
I'll be all over this when it comes out.
I loved Far Cry 2, it was quite fun. Aside from the insanely accurate "I-Know-Where-You-Are-As-Soon-As-You-Pull-Your-Trigger' mechanic, whatever the hell that was supposed to be.
Hopefully all the characters are as nicely scripted as that. I'll be looking forward to it.
