I just took IGN since it was the first thing that came into my head when i was gonna search for a quote, pretty much all sites agree on that the Wiimote is the next best thing, after mouse + keyboard, for fps's.
Well that's their opinion but you could never be as quick with the wii mote in CoD4 as you can be with a dual analog. I can't even imagine how awkward it would be. Even in other fast paced FPSs using a wii mote would just be terrible because nobodies arms can stay stable enough and are fast enough for that type of gameplay. Not to mention how tiring it would be after a 5 hour gaming run which is normal for frequent players of online shooters.I would imagine that is the reason that they didn't give WaW on the wii online gameplay because it would have been utter shit.
I highly doubt the dual analog controller will be replaced anytime soon if ever. It's just so perfect and well balanced for games on consoles that there really isn't any need to. As long as you as a gamer could give a shit less about point and click gameplay or some waggle feature you aren't missing out on anything that the wii has. There isn't a single game that the wii has that makes me want to go out and buy one. The only thing that makes me consider it is the virtual console.

You rest your Wiimote on your knee, or where ever you feel like, and slightly move your wrist to point with it..
Are you seriously saying that you play the Wii with your arms stretched out or something?

Nothing to do with the topic nor KLoWn's post. I still believe that the wii would not work as well for online FPSs such as CoD4 but I would like to correct myself in saying that the wii version of WaW doesn't have online play. It apparently does, my mistake for not double checking before posting and simply assuming it didn't.
In the end it's all an opinion game. There is no way to prove it but people's word. Have a Wii player play a Ps3 player on WaW on a ps3 and he will get owned. Have a Ps3 player play a wii player on a wii and he in turn will get owned. As Tsu did I am done with this thread as was my intentions before correcting myself. These topics seem to get under my skin too easily.

That depends on the individual. I didn't really care for Super Mario Galaxy. I own it, but I never beat it. It did feel like a return to form, but something about it just didn't sit right with me, and a sequel just sounds like a bad idea to me. I'm interested in L4D2 but not SMG2. Nothing wrong with that.
Nothing wrong with that, but don't say SMG2 "reeks of desperation" when L4D2 is going to be released within a shorter time frame from its predecessor than SMG2.

Doesn't the whole discussion boil down to, "Oh no, the majority doesn't like what I like, and companies are trying to please the majority. That pisses me off"?
A company is free to do whatever the fuck it wants. If Nintendo doesn't do things the way you like, you don't have to bitch about it. Just don't buy a Wii. If Microsoft comes out with a motion sensor thing, you don't have to buy it. And if all games become "casual" and nothing "good" is made, tough shit. Deal with it. You don't always get what you want.

This is pretty much the truth right here.

Indeed
TBH, I was in a really bad mood when I started this thread. I had just finished watching E3 2009 highlights/clips and was pretty pissed.
Could PMS be contagious?
Anyways, there have been gimmick control schemes in the past that have failed. I can only hope this will be one of them.

To me, none of Nintendo's current releases attract me in the slightest. I'm willing to bet that a good percentage of profits come from their line of handheld consoles like the DS. Fuck, back when Gameboy Color came out, that shit had me hooked. Plus, many of the old generation Nintendo games simply rocked. Now, it's nothing new or remotely great. I personally don't think Smash bros to be particularly exciting as I never understood the point of the game other than to throw or hit your opponent off the ledge.
I feel that they're going to have to increase product quality if they're going to be serious with contending with PS, Xbox, and PC.

You're probably right so far as the DS is one of the biggest moneymakers. I don't get what you're saying about the games, though. How does Smash Bros have any less key elements to it than most other games? So it's a fighting game, you're deriding an entire genre; the system it uses is in fact pretty different to the majority. Sure there have been a few Smash Bros games but you could say that about Zelda or Mario, and they continue to introduce innovations and provide a quality gaming experience. The Wii also has a ton of innovative and adult games which do work even if they aren't produced by Nintendo, although they tend not to be marketed as well. I haven't played No More Heroes, but from what I have heard and seen it is an example of something different, adult-orientated and which works with the motion controls; this is just one example that comes to mind.

You do point out something that I think is very true on a much broader basis. I feel that Nintendo marketing is completely slowed down compared to before, and many other games from the other consoles do a much better advertising/promotional campaign than Nintendo of now.

Well first off, what does Smash Bros. have to do with this? I just thought that was kind of random. As for product quality, there's nothing that can be done with that. Nintendo can't oversee every game released on their console. Microsoft and Sony should consider themselves lucky that they have a higher 'perceived' quality rating (for now).

What's the point of wasting money on advertising for a Mario game when they perfectly know everyone is gonna buy that? Most of Nintendo's franchises are iconic video games names. They really don't need anything more than that. Word of mouth also helps a lot.
Also, when they advertised something, you know they don't take corners. Wii Fit is the perfect example of that.

The funny thing about that is that Galaxy actually sold quite poorly, at least compared to expectations and previous Mario game sales. Also (and as I kinda said before), I think the games on the Wii that really need the advertising, but aren't getting it, are the innovative and adult ones outside of Ninty's studio.

Marketing is an integral part of business, and it's a major factor why many businesses and products fail due to poor or no marketing at all.

Dunno what kind of sales they were expecting out of it though.

Yup but you can't blame Ninty for that. Both Madworld and No More Heroes should have sold a lot more but Sega and Ubisoft are cheap bastards and didn't put any effort into advertising those great games. Seriously, did any of you guys ever see an ad for Madworld?

Mario is one of the most famous characters in video game history his name alone has become synonymous with videogames. When most of Nintendo's major tiles sell more than 5 million copies with minimal advertising, you can clearly tell why they don't bother that much with marketing.

Probably the same (or higher) numbers that Mario Kart Wii is currently producing.

All I know is that it started poorly, and considering Wii sales and the game's return to form (although I liked it, Sunshine and the Cube were failures in many respects, so even 8 mil would seem low) they would have expected more.

I saw an ad for it once, can't remember where or when, but just that once. My thoughts immediately went to Evil Dead and I didn't really think about that game again until now, so you may be right that bad advertising is killing their chances for success. I've owned a Wii for nearly 2 years now and I own 3 games for it. Just 3 (not counting Wii sports). Twilight Princess, Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Brothers. That's it. Nothing I've seen advertised or just seen on the shelf has appealed to me outside of ports (Okami) or the 3 I already own.
I wonder if they didn't put much into advertising them because they expected them to do poorly on the Wii and just wanted to save some money where they could?
