I personally loved the originals, I still have it for NES and Super. There's nothing like a classic to get you nostalgic...Damn, now I want to dig out both of them and beat them...Maybe tomorrow.

I've gotta agree, I loved that game. I think the most surprising thing is that my dad got me and my brother into it when we were like 3...He loved those two games.

I thought Prime was pretty good, but I got a bad copy of Prime 2 so I could never complete it. I also haven't played Prime 3 because I don't have a Wii, although I totally plan to get it later when more games I like come out.

idk y but I never was much of a prime ffan. I admit she's hot SOMETIMES, but her games aren't really all that fun.

Metroid is one of my most played game on my NES simulator. And I use to be addicted to it on the DS.

I find the megaman/X games a better platformer that is also more challenging compared to the Metroid series. The first person shooter is ok but nothing a good ol HALO 3 matchmaking can handle.

1. Super Metroid
1. Metroid Prime
3. Metroid Zero Mission
4. Metroid Fusion
5. Metroid Prime 2
6. Metroid
7. Metroid II
That's how I rank the games in the series. I haven't played Metroid Prime 3 so I can't comment on that one.
Super Metroid is one of the best games ever. Beautiful graphics, amazing soundtrack and excellent game play. Also, some of the bosses were the best in the series (especially the last one). That game also really rewarded exploration with extra power ups and energy tanks.
Metroid Prime is without a doubt the best game from the sixth generation. Basically everything in that game was perfect. The only downside was the backtracking you had to do at the end in order to access the Impact Crater. Also, the bosses were fucking amamzing. I still remember being in awe the first time I fought Meta Ridley, Tardus and the Omega Pirate. Good times.
If you haven't played any of those two games, I feel really bad for you.

Personally I don't like any of the older Metroid games. I do however really enjoy the Prime games that came out for the GCN/Wii. I've played the first and last prime games and they are really good (haven't beaten either because I'm still not that much of a Metroid/Sci-fi fan).
The graphics didn't change much between the first Prime and the last one, but the Wii isn't that much stronger than the GCN anyway.

You don't play Metroid for difficulty, you play it for the catharsis of being an invincible, unstoppable, killing machine, especially when Super Metroid hit. The only one that provides any sort of challenge after that is Fusion, and the part in Zero Mission where you don't have any armor, and anyone who knows anything about stealth and platforming will walk through that like it's nothing. You also play to see Samus take her armor off.

You're playing the wrong games then buddy. Metroid is all about exploration and discovery and not shooting.
Also, why are you comparing Metroid to Megaman? Both of those series have nothing in common.

Yeah and they both charge their guns and use otehr types of weapons besides their basic blasters usually more variety of weapon type for different purposes. Yeah they totally don't share anything at all.

Inow. I guess I should have worded that a bit better.
Gameplay wise, they're both completely different experiences. In the Mega Man games you have to fight your way through various baddies and obstacles before facing a boss at the lend of the level. Classic platforming in other words.
In Metroid, you're dropped into a massive world with no idea what to do first. It is your job to explore and find power ups that help you get through the game. Also, Metroid games are more of an action adventure than a platformer.
Also, Megaman games are known for their punishing and sometimes cheap difficulty. Metroid games are known for being short (this only applies to the classic ones though). The main challenge comes from beating the game as fast as you can. They will never get any harder than that.
Their small similarities is not enough to make up for their differences.

AT least now these days its not hard to map out where you've been to in teh metroid games. In teh original people had to pee in teh snow to map out where they ahve been you know.
