For me it was Final Fantasy 8.
The Ballroom Dance Scene is a classic moment in gaming FMV's.
Albeit the draw system could have been changed completely for something better, it did serve its purpose.
The GF summoning system was a new spin on it. Rather than just burning mana for an instant cast you had a separate HP bar and a timer that got faster depending on the chara/GF relationship.
I also liked how the enemies got stronger as you lvl'd up during the game.
Also the song Eyes On Me for the space section as they returned to earth was fantastic. (This said i do love FF music as a whole)

i hated FF12 combat systemIt was very reminiscent of the ./hack fighting system.
The only difference was that ./hack didnt bugger it up.

Pretty much, it also is one of the few RPGs that if you know what you are doing you can own a boss in less than 5 moves.

I liked 7 and 10-2 for combat.
Its just more to my taste that the enemy is allowed to beat the crap out of you while you think "Oh shit what ability will i use?"
I just didn't like the thought of an enemy waiting in a civilised manner for you to decide how you would be the living crap out of him this turn.

True, if you just stumble around the grid you will be owned by some easy bosses, like a underwater one. :D
