Then I played 7 when my brother got it and I don't know, it's just always been my favorite. But 10 comes in a very close second to that. xD I won't play any more FF games after 10-2 though because I loathed 12...
I was incapable to play all the FF since I was born in 87' I have played 4 though 12, excluding FF11. And I hated 12 too, never liked the battle system they put in it.
INORITE!?
It was like, in 12, you couldn't beat the damn monsters because you needed better armor so you would try to make money to get better armor but in order to get enough money to get the armor you had the beat the hard monsters! @__@ It was like one big fucked up circle of obnoxiousness and it pissed me off to no end.
I quit after the first boss I think. I only liked one character too which was the guy with the accent. Forget his name though...
I was born in '88. My grandpa had an orginal NES. That's how me and my brother were able to play the early ones. Yes, my whole family were video game-aholics btw. Grandpa kicked everyone's ass in Dr. Mario and Tetris. I think my younger brother was the only challenge he ever had.

I was born August 2, 1989. The first game I ever played was The Legend of Zelda for the NES, followed by Final Fantasy (both of which I still own). I played both for the first time at the age of 1. I'm not even joking. I've been playing games since before I could walk or retain memories. I just know this because we have family videos and my mom said I used to steal the controller from her. I count it as playing.
In any case my favorite Final Fantasy is definitely VI (as I've stated before, but I would like to stay on topic).

I don't know why everyone's hating on 12. I loved it. I get that its different from the others, but still its not like it was horrible. The battle system was great. It did require some strategy, but it didn't really take me that long to get the hang of it.

I loved 12 because they used a bunch of music from the original ff titles and it really brought back a bunch of memories and the original music for the game was pretty tight too. I also think the battle system is an acquired taste. All my friends who have played it hated the system and I was the only one who actually liked it because it did require a lot of strategy. Set your gambits just right though and you didn't have to really do anything except walk around. Also you didn't always have to have the main character in the party was a plus, I'd have an all girl party for most of the game just so it was aesthetically pleasing =)

Even though I'm not a big fan of the FF series, I keep comin' back to see what the results are, and (for some twisted reason) find it funny that a.) only VI on are listed and b.) that VII is winning by a large amount.
Now is that playing with a stacked deck or what?
If anyone cares, I went to Gamerankings to find out what each of these were rated, not that your favorite isn't the best, just giving a standpoint from reviews, that's all. (the scores are averaged out from the "official" reviews)
VI: 90.6%
VII: 92.4%
VIII: 89.8%
IX: 92.8%
X: 91.4%
X-2: 86.3%
XII: 91.1%

I was like, in 12, the eliminated random encounters, the strategies were more than, "summon summon summon" or "limit limit limit", it provided depth, and in regards to the equipment system, it gave you that feeling of accomplishment knowing that you created a weapon by collecting the items needed instead of,"kill and receive." And although the license system was a little cumbersome at first, I really started to like it knowing that everyone in my party can cast Holy and Flare and such.

Poll lacks a "Tactics" option. Numerically I'd say VI though. Not a controversial opinion but the game was great.

Fucking Ultimacia kicked my ass every time I got to the last form. Dx Hate that bitch...That was the second, most easy final boss on a Final Fantasy game! Beaten only by Sephi (mama's boy, punching bag) only because you needed a strategy to defeat her. I don't know if it will chage anything but I'll post the strategy:
*ahem*
Spoiler:
...See, not as easy as FF7 W-Summon>Knights of the Round>Mimic>Mimic strategy. But more fun! ^____^
For the record, Kefka is the best villain ever!

I know this thread's been dead for a week, but every time I see a "which FF were bettar?" Thread, I ABSOLUTELY MUST throw in my two cents.
For starters, this poll was flawed to begin with because it lacked FFI-V. A number of years ago this would have been acceptable since access to each of these games was pretty limited. But now? In these days? You MUST include all of them. I wasn't able to vote for my favorite final fantasy (IV) so was forced to vote for my 2nd favorite (VI). Also, OF COURSE VII IS ON THE TOP. Let's be real here. So many people's very first final fantasy was VII, and this was a huge mistake. This game pretty much taught you that graphics were more important than storyline and character development. At the very least, it had a good soundtrack. I don't often speak out against Mr. Uematsu. I guess the point I'm trying to make here, is that this poll isn't even worth making. We know what the turnout's going to be.
On the other hand, since I'm already firmly planted on top of the proverbial soap box, allow me to say this. To all of those who have only played VII-XII, I BEG you to find and play Final Fantasy I-VI. Every single one of these games have an incredible story with great characters and awesome soundtracks. Hey, Final Fantasy IV was just re-released on the DS. Go get it! You'll not regret it, I promise you.

Cant choose any of them...All of them are great...but, if i have to choose the best out of all, it'll be the 9th Fanatsy...I love the World of 9...but wait, 6 got an Incredible Plot...and 7 got best characters...aaargh...i cant choose!!!
...Ok...Just let me Pick The Worst...It'll be 8...Not that bad tho, it's just inferior if it's compared to other Fantasy...

Final Fantasy 6 was my all time favorite. I've played all the FFs except for 3 and I think 5(?). I will iterate that NO villian has ever screwed the world over like Kefka from FF6. I dont even think anyone came close to popping their worlds, were as Kefka actually got away with it.
The villian form FF2 (Zero? I forget) I will say was the single hardest final boss I ever fought, but he wanted to rule the world, not pop it.
Ok Sin, maybe, but I think of Sin more as a plot device compared to a villian so I may just be talking semantics.

I found it hilarious. When Miya said that 7 had the best characters I started laughing my ass off.

Well my favorite over ALL is FF6, that characters(Man Sabin ROCK XD) the plot, and the fucking villian, Kefka was so so fuck up, that he was an incredible villian.(and al the sidequest, I had to play this game over 3-4times to have ALL; and even so, you can't have everthing, fuc** ragnarok sword xD)
Nes FF4, and FF Tactics(I still dont understand why this 2, and all the FF before 6 are not in the pool)
This two have great story, I really dont see much people that like FF Tactics for the PSX, but I honestly believe is a great one, the political conflict, with is kind of twisted and the true plot behind it, I find it all incredible.
And just for the record, born in August 22 1989, even so, first game Doble Dragon, folowed by FF4, and lateeerrr when I buy a computer, I just downloaded, all the FF games for the nes. So I does't matter if you were born in the 80-90 or in the 20 century, If you really care you will fin a way.
PD: about Zelda, yeah link to the past was a great game by far, like someone said back there, is kinda dificult to decide betwen Link to the Past and Ocarine of time, at last for me.
