Shogun 2: Total War

My favourite Total War game and one of my all-time favourite RTS' reincarnate. Looks like the original with all the new mechanics, some tweaks and some downright flashy improvements. As long as this is a modernisation and not a remake, I am readying a jizzplosion.
Anyone else mildly excited? :P

OMFG!!! Shit, THIS is what I've been waiting for, not some crappy game about a short, balding dude. Shogun, while being so much simpler than the later games, is still in many ways the funniest and coolest game in the TW series. Hopefully this game can live up to the standard of Shogun: Total war!

three thoughts in my mind: they should have continued to go further in history, I cant wait for the new game and I need a new computer my old one can barely deal with empire total war.

Yea I kinda freaked when I saw the cover of PC Gamer with it. Possibly shreaked in joy also but I don't regret it :P
Reeeeeeally looking forward to this

(not counting graphics and such ofc) Personally I found that the much higher amount of ranged units made the battles much more boring. (Naval battles were awesome though).

Necro-bumping the original thread for relevant info, and because I don't want to make a third Shogun thread.
As release date approaches us with rather big steps (25th of March),
system requirements were posted some time ago.
Additionally, there will be three different types of release:
"Regular", "Limited" and "Collectors"
Limited edition will feature additional player faction (the Hattori Clan), a new battle sceneario and a set of armor and XP for your online character.
Collectors edition will feature all of the above, along with artbook and figure of Takeda Shingen, packed into a bamboo box.
There are also plenty of gameplay vids out there:
Campaign Trailer
Ninja's. God-dammn Ninjas.
Castle Siege battle
Confirmed player factions so far include:
Chosokabe
Date
Uesugi
Judging from trailers, Takeda, Hojou, Shimazu and Oda will be also available. Don't know about the rest.
So, from seeing all of this, I'd say it's looking very, very well. I'm particularly eager to see how this whole system of XP/customization of your generals and agents will work out in actual gameplay. I was always a fan of AARs, roleplaying characters, traits and the like.
Battles also look nice. One thing that do makes me worried, is how troops just scale the walls during the attack. Sure, it takes them time, but if you can do it on all walls, then the whole point of fortifications and siege weapons goes moot...okay, maybe not moot. But a bit redundant.
Well, there are still two and half months, so we should wait and see.
Anyway, this is my most anticipated game of this year, aside from Mass Effect 3.

Well, TW community has already started modding the game.
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=428223
You can find from that thread - removes the turn limitation in the Chosokabe tutorial, unlocks all tech trees and buildings / units, also allows you to choose another faction to play as for example.
No in-battle commanding though, seems it's impossible in the game so we'll just have to wait for the game to be released.
On another thread there's edited version of the Battle of Sekigahara for more units and a guide to change your's / enemy's unit roster.
*edit / off-topic* somehow i cant see the 3 posts above this one.. Odd.

Wow lol.

I wonder why they chose to call archers for Bow units instead of Yumi units, since sword and spear units are called Katana and Yari.

Oh my god. Thanks for making us aware of this. Off to play some campaign :)

Guess now is a good time to bump this.
Since the game is out, and there's possibility to setup a clan for the avatar conquest, any other's here that would be interested in it? Or then just simply going for the Co-op Campaign.

I already assume it's PC only? In any case, looks worth getting, always like the Total War series.

Well of course it's for PC.
The control scheme is too complex for a console nor can a console handle the graphics in the game.

10K units on screen at once is a consolite's dream.

Haven't bought Shogun 2 yet.

Well, finished up my 2nd Grand campaign, this time on Date.
After Takeda and Hojo were out of the way, it was fairly easy to take the eastern and mid Honshu. 3 full stacks of samurai troops at lvl 5 with good commanders = steamrolling, since there's usually 2 to 3 routes where armies can travel to other cities and player behind the wheels of a full army can usually take on 1 and half stacks of hard AI and manage to win with less then 40% lost troops.
Even after Realm Divide, this thing goes on.
Guess Hard mode wasn't challenging enough. Going to move up on VH or maybe even legendary on 3rd run.
Some thoughts to this point:
Map AI is bit too over aggressive. Tends to leave their towns fairly undefended, where as they'll gladly attack my towns where I'm expecting an attack with half the army consisting of archers, rest being mostly Katana Samurai and few Yari samurai.
So far I haven't lost a single siege in that style nor taken heavy casualties.
Realm Divide turns the game quite a bit more monotonous, since no one wants to do diplomacy with ya and with about 3k income, you wont be able to keep up the gifts to keep one faction on decent terms with you.
Though once you have only one opponent left, that is fairly easy to turn into a vassal if one desires so, add 15k koku in and they'll always accept the deal. I did this to the tiny Island faction (Sogo or whatever.. Right next to Uesugis place). There wasn't really any benefit on invading tiny piece of land that has 2 full armies standing there.
Battle AI on fields can be challenging quite often, which I find it very enjoyable. Though there's still the occasional reckless use of general by the AI, most of the time they're staying out of my archers reach and away from my Yari infantry.
Also seldom, when AI is attacking a town of yours with two armies or more, the reinforcing armies MIGHT get stuck on the edge of the map, causing mysterious lag. Reloading the game fixed the issue for me, the AI used those extra armies and oddly didn't cause any lag.
Agents: Ninja is more useful in long run then Geisha. Sure, the lady comes at Lvl 3 off the bat but barely any skills to improve it. Kind of disappointing. Lvl 3 ninja might not be as good assassin as a Geisha, but they'll be still very useful saboteurs along with spies.
Loyalty: Yet to see any defects from my generals, still bit perplexed on one of the random trait that drops the loyalty with 2 to 3. Comes out of nowhere.. I guess I use the guy too much and he gets the power up on his head.
Province specialization: Why I cannot retrain or re-equip my samurai's in a province that has master armorer's place or Master weapon-smith. Kind of silly, since it's something crafted for the soldiers.
Some of those few things i mentioned can most likely be fixed through mods, though it'll take time since TWcenter is still working on updating their tools
