Shogun 2: Total War

Well, Shogun 2: Fall of the Samurai is out (Independent release, You don't need the main game to purchase and play this). Fairly nice addition from CA, though it'll need some polishing through either patches or mods.
Also they tweaked starting just enough that you cant 1-2 turn rush your first hostile neighbor.
Looking closely for Darthmod updates, for more unit variety / balance adjustments and maybe new techs..
Ship combat right now requires the most attention, since it's very very arcade like. Get a ironclad with Advanced Armor Piercing shells and you have pretty much I win button right there.. If you run into wooden ships, just blast them with single broadside of explosive shells.
Also it's kind of nice that you have the option of staying as traditional clan and forgo all the modernization upgrades.. but with that, you're not really able to research anything (This is one part that I hope gets looked at. Maybe non-modernization tech tree that requires traditional buildings to develop on), so you get really shafted in the mid-late game economy.

So... I've been getting back into the multiplayer of this. Finally something clicked with me and I've started winning (was like 5-40 before, with 3 wins from afk's, 2 from the other guys DCing). Realized the clan I was in was Cavalry specced, didn't like it. Made my own "clan". Low tier conquests are lol-worthy. Barely any provinces were taken at the end of the last season. Got promoted with just 5 provinces :DAm using a Katana Samurai core (I hear this is regarded standard + boring, but I've only 51 hours played (30 in SP), so I don't care).
Essentially I uses:
Core:
6 Katana Samurai (upgrade 2x dmg)
3 Yari Samurai (upgrade melee defence x2 and speed x2)
Extras:
1 Testubo monk hero/Fire Cavalry/Heavy Gunner (DLC units iirc).
X Ranged (often 2x Yumi Ashigaru (vet with more bow dmg), sometimes 2x Matchlock Ashigaru. Have been thinking of using a Bow Warrior Monk unit to draw attention on them)
X Sword/Naginata Attendants (if I have spare cash to blow and nothing more expensive is usable).
Am only rank 6, so am using heavy defense retainers (my Yaris have 14 defence, Katanas 9). Sacrifices a little offense, but I like it tanky like this.
Have been considering trying a morale busting army, something with the Avatar's Scare enemy trait + Katana Samurai Scare Enemy clan trait + some monks for their Warcry. Essentially just stacking every morale dropping ability I can get my hands on. Will probably end up with small army size (due to cost of upgrades), but could be an amusing trolly army.
And I still have no clue what to do with MP naval battles. I just don't understand them.
Could somebody point me in the direction of some explanation/guide/tutorial on the basics? (like what to consider when making a fleet and basic mechanics).
My clan is specialized in spears.
Spears.
Spears.
Yari Ashigaru. ;3

I hate to say it. But heavy gunners and mounted gunners kinda ruin the game :/
