I admit, I do find Halo "okay" but I don't think it's the best (should just be in top 15).

Call of Duty for second? THEY MUST BE TROLLIN ME. It shouldn't even be on that list.

I stopped reading right there.

The Guiness Book of records is mainstream so that list represents a sample of the 'average' people who play games evidently that includes hoards of Halo players.
In terms of gameplay, story, and eye candy Halo is good but it surely ain't the best.
It's a shame the greats like Deus Ex, System Shock 2 and countless other genre redefining games are overlooked in the list.

I just looked through the rest of the list...It seems like they polled some people with a brain. Apparently not enough...

Alright, this list might make a smidge more sense if the games weren't ranked, and instead this was just an overall list. I still agree with others that some of these games don't belong, but in a poll of all the Fakku users I think the amount that have played these games (even if they didn't like them) would be very high. Now if Fakku is a community that likes the "overlooked gems" more than mainstream games, and most of us even played most of these games, is it really so surprising that most of the polled people not only played them, but loved them?

On the note of Halo: Nylund's books are so much better than the actual games, and the recent inability for Bungie to create a legit plot that doesn't disturb canon (Halo Wars, Halo: ODST, and Halo: Reach) is completely inexcusable. The game's blatant disregard for what is already in the books is shitting all over the best part of the entire series.

Yes, I'm a fanboy...an Eric Nylund fanboy.

Weren't the books based on the game itself?
And expanded on the plot?

The books are based on the universe, and Fall of Reach covers Master Chief (John) from abduction to the events just before Halo: Combat Evolved. William C. Dietz wrote the book that takes place during Halo, basically a written form of the game. Nylund wrote First Strike, which bridges Halo 1 to Halo 2, and then also wrote Ghosts of Onyx, which explores the Spartan III project (basis for the characters in Halo: Reach) and also encompasses the tale of the remaining Spartan IIs.

Nylund made the universe what it is in my opinion. By sheer "coincidence", Halo: Combat Evolved also had the best storyline, and Eric Nylund was on the writing team for it. He was axed from the sequels because he was working on the novels.

Though I disagree with the order, almost every title listed on here is a great game. So really, I have no right to complain. Most people think I'm insane for having "Where the Wild Things Are" near the top of my favorites movies list, but there it is.

Halo being at top does sort of peeve me though. I'll just overlook it. Pretend like it isn't there.

You make me sad. But anyways, I think I've managed to get us a bit off-topic. I should be punished for this.

*clears throat* I'm really wondering how exactly they came to this decision. Was this based on popular gamer consensus or was it just something Guiness threw up?

Believe it or not, truth is harsh .. just let it slip .. if you have your best then you wouldn't care about this list ..

Subjective things are subjective
