Who the hell is complaining about turn based combat? It's the bread and butter of RPG's and possibly the easiest and most versatile system you could possibly be playing with. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love actiony games like those in the 'Tales' series or Star Ocean, but I'm never afraid to have people wait for their turn in order to do their damage. Besides, it's final fantasy. I was more mad about the games where they took out the turn based fighting rather than the ones with it. I've been using the Active Time Battle System for a long time now, and they have been improving it rather nicely over the years. Nothing wrong with that.
People who complain are looking at the wrong game to play and need to get back to more action oriented titles.

Well if he would rather play an fps, by god, he should! Rpgs aren't really meant to help relieve that First-person bloodlust you get in Halo ...or Doom...or whatever else would fit that description. Best to ignore those people, not really worth getting worked up about.

Speaking of turn based, I am playing FF7 again (for the 5th time >,>) and I actually saw you can go to the options and make the game wait for you, so it turns it into a turned based game.

I like turn based rpgs such as persona 3 fes and persona 4 but I also like RPGs with style like Kingdom Hearts II. In turn based RPGs I find that the story is most focused while those graphically advanced RPGs like prototype, Kingdom Hearts, etc. finish quite easily.

A good example is usually any Dragon Warrior game. Combat is sinfully simple with very little frills, but the story is usually enjoyable and pretty epic. The only game that really has a decent combination of story and combat for me, would be star ocean 2. Way too much fun to play that, and here is a game with a butt-load of endings, an item creation system, several characters to pick and choose from throughout, and many extras to enjoy. I guess it really depends on what you are in the mood for.

Any RPG lover here who hasn't played a Turn Based RPG yet?
Please reply asap. ^ ~ ^
I like Turn Based RPGs, just as Naoto said. Persona games are great and will keep me busy for hours.
If you're an RPG lover you'll probably love any RPG type game. Either Hack and Slash, Turn Based and etc.

I've "grown out" of most turn-based RPGs because I won't give them a try if they don't absolutely wow me in every other category, but I will still play them from time to time.
Come to think of it, the only one that was worth playing in the past few years was Lost Odyssey. *shrugs*

i would try valkyria chronicles even though it is an srpg it is prolly the most original rpg of the past few years. ff13 is bring back a turn based system kind of i hope it still will have gambits for like timing with potions but in videos the combo system looks great. if you havnt play ff9 also it has the coolest abilities and spells i think spell blades need to come back

Second, if you are still playing those games on occasion, then you haven't "grown out" of them.

It wasn't a literal expression. I put in quotations because I couldn't think of a better term to use.
Mm, yeah I did forget about Persona 4, mostly because I don't touch my PS2 anymore. Heh.

Hmm people talk about Persona 3 and Persona 4, but for me the true king of turn based battles is FFX. Oh how I love it.
The complex battle system is so perfect and makes for awesome battles. The next turns bar, the high damage that the attacks(up to 99999), the huuuuuuuuge monsters, the cool attacks and magics, etc.
And of course, the awesome story and colossal ammount of sidequests, make the game perfect.
It really is my favorite turn based rpg. I wish they would revive the system... :\
