What should I get, 360 or PS3?

To me, it seems like you guyz are confusing him more by just saying "get both" or "it depends".
I'm pretty sure he just wants a straight answer. If not, then I've misunderstood.
Personally I would go with the PS3, I ownED both systems.
I stress the ED because Xbox360 are poorly made by Microsoft, and as a computer fanatic, I know, everything made by Microsoft almost ALWAYS crashes and burns, or has a bunch of errors.
My Xbox360 broke 3 months after purchasing it, BRAND-SPANKING-NEW, It kept giving me disc reading errors and what not, not going to go into that.
I took it back to Gamestop, it wouldn't even work for them, so they bought it from me for only $15.
I've had my PS3 for 2 years now, I think, no problems whatsoever.
So, in my opinion, you should get a PS3, even if you just like FPS games, Xbox360 may break on you for no reason.
Now I know there are newer Xbox's out, like the new black one I keep seeing.
But I here it has issues as well.
Edit: As for controllers, well that's just personal preference, like you said, PS3 is chargeable, so it'll last a long time, while Xbox's you need batteries. For me, the PS3 controller is smaller, easier to use and durable(never could break one), Xbox's is a little heavy and has too many buttons. Now that's just me but I wouldn't recommend buying a system just for it's controller.

Eh, if it is just the controller I'm sure you'll get used to it in no time. PS3 actually has the better control when you consider the D-Pad (imagine trying to play street fighter on an xbox controller). Also, a dual shock weighs about the same as a Xbox controller - maybe the one you used wasn't dual shock? Try going over a friends house or play for a while at a kiosk in store.
The only other thing you should consider is what systems your friends have - you might get a PS3 only to realize everyone else is playing multiplayer on Xbox.

Also, you're right about the 2nd bolded statement, but looking at the controller and how it fits me is a good thing to look at before buying the console. I want to get the games so I can beat them all, not to be beaten.
@Sneaky, Quite a good point made.
@Deftera, Your reason?
@Neko, That's another thing. Right now, I know more people with Xbox360 than PS3 in Canada, but I don't know what will happen if I move to Florida. (Moving in 3 months)

Depends on what type of gamer you are
For better online play experience and exclusive first play DLC etc.
As well as the Games On Demand Xbox Live Arcade Features
Plus you can install games onto the HDD cuts down on load & lag
360
If your mostly into single player games most that are 3rd party
an don't care about online play much or certain popular cool games Halo/Fable
PS3

Seriously though, apart from that one god of a game, the 360 doesn't have much in terms of exclusivity, nor does the PS3 for that matter of fact. Its pick your poison as most AAA games are multi-plat these days.
The XBL cost may seem like a put off, it was for me at first (I only dived into live about 6 months after i got my xbox), but i assure you its worth every penny. People who say PSN is exactly the same as XBL are somewhat right, but are short handing themselves. For the essentials (chat, online play etc), yes both services are the same, but this is where XBL stretches past its PSN competitor. XBL's library of arcade and indie games that count well into the thousands is extraordinary, a superior party and game chat system, a more dedicated community combined with a multitude of services, XBL is just much more redefined than PSN. MS are the software kings, and its quite obvious they show their macho when it comes to XBL and kinect.
When it's all said and done, PC is the one and only king of gaming.

Okay then, seriously I think the PS3 is a superior system and any exclusive game that you can get on the 360 (like mass effect) usually goes to the PC anyways. However, since you both like FPS and have friends that have 360, I say buy that as long as you don't mind paying for xbox live.
The most joy you'll get from your system is playing with other friends, and you'll probably meet at least some people when you move that have an Xbox, but more importantly you can keep in touch with your old friends via playing online. So unless you don't think your going to (or want to) play with friends on Live, the xbox seems like a better choice for you.
Again, as long as you are going to be playing with friends and don't mind paying for Xbox live (which isn't unfairly priced but still, its not free...).
Uh, God of War, Little big Planet, FFXIII Versus, Yakuza 3&4, Twisted Metal, SOCOM, KillZone, Metal Gear Solid 4. Heck, I'd buy a PS3 just to play Uncharted 1 & 2.

This is sad, but true. Microsoft is going downhill. Right now, the only good products they are making that I know of, are the Windows 7 and other OS, and the Microsoft Office. Too bad when Google comes out with their own OS, they'll dominate everyone.
Also, right now more people have persuaded me to buy Xbox360 than PS3

You kidding me? MS might have more competition now, but they've got a long way to go before they fall to Sony in software development. And Google OS dominating the market? Not for the next decade at least. The transition from companies to switch from a MS OS to any other OS would nearly be impossible.

You mention Xbox 360 and PS3 in the same sentence and it automatically starts a flame war, get 360 if you want to play online, get PS3 if you want to play single player or more offline focused games, I have them both and I play my 360 a ton more because im an online focused player

I don't see what being a focused online player has to do with playing on xbox though. Yes, Xbox Live is a better experience, but the gameplay doesn't change. The difference is nominal, and until they devise a system where your stats from one FPS show up on another FPS game (Not like Halo's, like from CoD to BC), I don't think it is that big a deal to play on Xbox Live.

What!? I didn't think anybody played that online so I just stopped looking. Now my xbox is toast and I am going to be switching over to PS3 (after I buy my bass guitar) it's really too bad, I would have owned your ass so bad.
