Utawarerumono for me. Sad that I watched the anime first, but I still enjoyed it. Great story, good art work, and the H scenes were not the main focus. How could I have asked for more.

Nope, there's no "bad way" to start playing VNs. The only good way is keep on increasing the amount of VNs that you play.
Because VNs =/= Happy/awesome story.
My first was Critical Point, which isn't stellar in the story section. But that doesn't make it a "Bad" VN. But at that time, it was still a great experience.

Mine would be Ever 17 which is then followed by Private Nurse and Wanko to Kurasou and continue till now Daiteitoku as my latest one.

My first VN was Wanko to Kurasou since i only found out about VNs after i found about Fakku and since the translation was just out i tried that one, then played Saya no Uta and Ever17.

Yume Miru Kusuri was the first one I played, liked it so much that it motivated me to play more VNs
