Okay I don't know if there already was a thread about this but hakuna matata.
WITH PAIN IN MY HEART, I've finally come to the decision that I'm ready to replace my old dear dear PS2 with something newer. It seems to be that the gamers have divided into two on this matter: the people who vote for ps3 and the people that demand me to get an xbox. Which are youu?
ALSO NOTE: please, if you vote, throw in some game suggestions! .... and I realize that this would be a good time for me to remind you that I'm a girl.
And I fail at FPS very, VERY hard.
And I play mainly rpgs.
And I don't like turn based combat systems (which mean I would actually have to THINK while beating up the opponent wtf).
BUT if you know of an awesome fps, that HAS EVEN SOME KIND OF A STORYLINE, feel free to mention that too - the humiliating experience of getting constantly beaten up in fps games by guy friends drives me to learn how to play them some day :D
Thanks for reading and maybe commenting :3

Get the playstation. why because it has better hardware and game i can tell you from a non bias opinion because i have them both. ps3 has a whole lot of JRPG'S you can play. better exclusives like uncharted and killzone. dont forget twisted metal the king is back. when i comes to service the ps3 is free and on xbox you have to pay. you pay on psn aswell but thats if you want special servives like early access to demos, etc. psn is also aviable in more countrys then xbox live, like chile. its up too you, i say get the ps3 this way you can also visit fakku off your ps3. but 1 thing thats sucks about ps3 is we got no cross game chat like xbox , but whatever. its your choice. i say get a ps3 it looks great next to your ps2 and if you have a psp you can do remote play. get a ps3 so we can be friends i already have a couple of users from fakku as friends on psn.
EDIT: i also forgot to mention that all of your ps2 accessorys such as headsets and AV( the one with 5 cables and or 3) work with the ps3 aswell

I've owned both and they have their fair share of pros and cons:
Xbox360
+User Friend Interface
+Awesome Online Experience
+Nice, Hefty Controller
+Decent Backwards Compatibility
-Xbox Live is Expensive ($60/year)
-Some red ring alot (I've never had this issue though with the 4 years of my console)
-Not a good selection of JRPGs (Only one I like is Tales of Vesperia)
PS3
+Free Online Access
+Blue Tooth Friendly
+Dynamic Backgrounds
-Longer Loading Times
-You Have To Install Alot of the Games
-NO Backwards Compatibility (on the 60GB Model)
-The internet browser is REALLY slow (I run a fast connection at home and my games ran fine, the browser just sucks)
So that is just a very brief look on technical aspects, but in the end, I went back to my Xbox 360, I enjoyed the community, some of the games and such. The games on the PS3 don't differ much from the Xbox360 when it comes to FPS games with the exception of Killzone VS Gears of War. Overall, the 360 seems to have more online/FPS games (I'm not to hot for first person shooters myself) and the PS3 seemed to have a decent line up of single player games, although the only two I played worth platforming was Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Valkyria Chronicles (Although That's turned Based). They have Tales of Vesperia for the 360, (PS3 but it's Japanese only) and it's easily the best game I've played on a next gen console since The Legend of Zelda. With 60 hours+ of gaming, the live action, Japanese RPG will keep you going forever. There are a few RPG's that the consoles share, such as Eternal Sonata and Star Ocean, both of which, aren't the best. Eternal Sonata was turn based and was a total loli/shota fest, I couldn't take it. and I thought I'd try Star Ocean again, but I can't seem to get into it. Hell in the end it seems like you're buying the same thing with both systems having downloadable games, DLC's, demos, online friends and more. If you get the PS3, pick up Uncharted, it's more of an adventure game with guns, and an epic story, if you choose the 360 I suggest Tales of Vesperia, that's a fantastic game, hope something helps!

playstaion 3 is your best choice.
xbox is only good for games while the ps3 is good for well, everything. from video editing to uploading ,play memories , quirocity , internet brower to home. i also i had the xbox before but then i got ride of it because it fails too much and also pay 60$ a year. i invested more money on the xbox while the ps3 already had it like wifi, built in battery , blu-ray player. its all up to you if you buy a ps3 at least you know you have a fail proof device
edit: DONT GET RID OF YOUR PS2 ITS THE BEST SYSTEM EVER.PERIOD.I STILL HAVE MY FAT ONE FROM 2001

PS3-You Have To Install Alot of the Games
What are you talking about? You cannot install any games into it's hardware, besides the one you downloaded from PSN. So, if you didn't buy many "virtual copies" you'll hardly install any games in the PS3
except you're jailbraking it.
Updates and DLCs are a whole different thing

LIAR!!! we all catch the RROD atleast once or twice. and as for the internet browser mine runs fast, maybe you should just check your connection and try not to keep the ps3 far way from the access point

I have XBox, but now, after almost all game shops in Indonesia jailbreak all PS3 before selling them, I want to try PS3 too

As of now, I prefer Xbox 360. I play most RPGs (both Western and Japanese) as well as FPS/TPS games. All of which can be adequately satisfied with the 360. I also prefer the online experience for the 360. Don't get me wrong, Sony has done well to keep up with Live as much as they can with free service, but it will never match up with Live unless they start charging and spend extra time and resources on making it as intuitive as Live.
That said, most of the games I play are multi-platform so I just as soon get the games for my 360 than purchase them for a Playstation 3, which I don't have yet. There are only a handful of Playstation 3 exclusive games that I am interested in, but it does keep increasing each year. I'll certainly get a Playstation 3 sooner rather than later.

I also forgot to say that most ps2 games are being remasterd on the ps3 such as god of war , sly cooper , prince of persia , tomb raider ,etc. aslo you can download many PSone games right off the store such as final fantasy , resiident evil, metal gear. there are alot of RPG'S and japanese imports on the store too. keep in mind sony is japanese and microsoft is american, something most retards dont know

Actually, you can. My brother got himself a PS3 + GT5 a while ago and while you don't have to install it, it is recommended for shorter loading times.
Also, I vote for the Wii.

PS3:
Journey - (Pick it up on release, TGC rules.)
Flower
Burnout Paradise
Valkyria Chronicles
God of War III
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Infamous 1 & 2
LittleBigPlanet 1 & 2
The Last Guardian
I'd get a Wii to be honest, extremely easy to mod and pirate games for while still allowing online play.

Anyway, I'm gonna agree with what Kaimax said. You'll pretty much have to choose the console you yourself like. Like it was stated in here earlier, both consoles have their pros and cons. Both are good consoles, both have great games. The 360 may shine in a certain genre(s) of games over the PS3. And the PS3 may shine in a certain genre(s) over the 360.

Not true, I couldn't play Metal Gear Solid 4 without installing the game. And no I didn't jail break it (if I tried I'd just end up "breaking" it) nor did the previous owner (I think). The main menu of Valkyria Chronicles asks you if you'd like to install the game.
@Mr. TifaLockHeart: Dead Cereal, never got the RROD, mine has always been problem free. I also used a wired connection and the browser was just awful, I didn't mind because I have a computer and a net book so I obviously didn't use the PS3 for the internet, maybe my browser was like the IE of the PS3.

i think he means by exclusive's. xbox has halo and gears of war, 2 best selling games on the xbox while the ps3 on the other hand has killzone, uncharted , gran turismo , twisted metal , resistance fall of man ,motor storm ,ratched and clank , god of war , jax and daxter , mlb the show XX , infamous 1 and 2 , mod nation racer's , little big planet , MAG , socom ,and these are the ones that i know of. FUCK thats 2:15 ratio
playstation has been in this game for 16 years while xbox has only 10 or so.sony doesnt need to depend on 3rd party games like microsoft do plain and simple

And with bisaed post like those, I see why the two of you have horrible rep here lol. You two were pretty much the only ones who posted in such a way while everyone actually gave pretty good consent about both consoles.
Just because you like the PS3 that much doesnt mean you can force your opinion onto other folk.
And I lol'ed so hard at you for throwing in Resistance in comparison to Gears of War.

It's only for a "small" amount of games, Like Resident Evil 5. It does not amount enough games to be counted as a Con. From all my games (10) only MGS 4 needs to be pre-installed. And from all the games that I played, only MGS4 and RE5.
Name me more than 50 games that uses this installation.
