I personally expected him to see the life points going down to 1 and put the app away. Then he would pull it out after an imaginary slight to get killed. Or even better someone sees the app on his phone and uses the last life point.

@Sogeking79 and H-Connoisseur: Another possible scenario - as the last life point is used, MC gets a notification, either on-screen display or voice message:
"This app will self-destruct in five seconds. Thank you for using DTF."
Depending on how long that message takes to be displayed or played back, MC might have no time to throw the device away before "Self-Destruct - ENGAGED!". And unless someone is witness to that, there's no-one to give a warning to any prospective future users of Dat App.

If I'm not mistaken, the number 4 is synomymous with Death in Japanese Culture - supposedly it's one of the reasons why 'super sentai' teams usually have three or five members, but almost never four. That alone could have been a warning sign about the nature of Dat App. 😱😱😱😱
