About Cinderella... I think it is far more horifying the part with the 2 sisters getting their eyes bitten out by a raven than the whole toe and heel cutting they do to fit the shoe...
I also think you saddly can find far more horifying things done in the name of beauty and fashion in real life if you look a couple of hundred years back in time.

I have read many of them though as I remember them most of them actually end either hapily or with some kind of "hope".
I have never seen a version of Rapunzel were what you mention is actually the ending, all the versions I have seen has a part after that :P
Even the little mermaid doesn't just end with her becomming sea foam. She became one of the "daughters of the air" and got the right to earn herself an immortal soul like the one humans have ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Cant leave out out how Sleeping Beauty was raped by a prince/king and was woken from giving birth to said rapist's child
In Cinderella the 3 sisters cut off parts of their feet to fit into the glass slipper(might've been different footwear in original).

"end sadly' is putting it lightly lol. I'd say pretty much all of them are fucked up. and to anyone curious the original stories are collectively called the Grimm Fairy Tales. or something close to that
