No, I wasn't but just like with anything, it depends. Dealing with acquaintances, it's justified - with family members like here, it's not black-and-white. It did look like her obsession was so, so hard for him to bear in the beginning...until he saw her sleep with somebody else. Then it's about-face, "Oh, she's a good girl and naive and blablabla, so now maybe...", which puts doubt in the legitimacy of his gripe all along, meaning the ending made his recollection look one-sided. And then he says at least she's useful to somebody, which is a pretty shitty thing to say.
