This was a plot twist. She gets stranded on the island due to a loss with the dragon. Instead of Pershing the dragon with the repaired ship, she releases it from the dock.

I think the dragon returned to the island once it saw the ship. During its return, It may have sunk it.

As for her wanting to stay on the island, shes so afraid of losing her partner, that she is willing to sacrifice both their lives for her happiness. No one said they had to truly return to her kingdom. He could have taken her with him.

On a side thought, the dragon may use the island as a feeding ground. In theory, it could see the slimes as a source of water. It’s lair may not contain enough water. Since slimes contain a good percentage of water, this could make sense.
