Guess from seeing the dropping births rates and gender degradation in US makes this related even to us. Well at least black men are living longer lives
I assumed August Lights took place in a area that was devastated by a tsunami. Given the age gap there seemed to be, I kinda thought it might of been the artist telling a story about lovers that were separated by the tsunami back in 2011. Kinda morbid, but that was the theory I initially had.
Considering the stories this author loves to write (like that one series where girls live inside bears) i do believe he enjoys paranormal/sci-fi scenarios.

That ending though. Well...I will admit I was holding out hope that they'd make a breakthrough in medicine for a happy ending, but I guess things just aren't that simple. It still ended quite nicely though.
