It's seemed pretty clear that she never liked him romantically in the first place. She treated him like a little brother you actually don't care about throughout the entire story.
He might have made it work while they were still in high school, but he most likely would have just lost her when she got to college. That girl didn't need much to become a slut, and the MC had no good way to stop that. It adds to the bitterness of the story because the guy is probably more hurt by her becoming a slut than getting a boyfriend.
Idk...With stories like this - not taking into account it's a bss story or not - I always get a feeling there's more to the story that's inferred. Mei's reaction after her realizing Hiro peeped in on her naughty session with her friend didn't just seem cold to him, it didn't feel natural with just what's in the story. Maybe he's right what he said about their relationship in the beginning - that she did get a kick out of making fun of him and they really aren't that close. Who knows?
This one was pretty tame by BSS standards because usually the feelings on both sides run a lot deeper with the FMC being a childhood friend with genuine feeling for the MC, so the pain is worse when he blows his chance. In this one the FMC is older with very little sign of deep affection being shown or inferred. MC had a childhood crush that wasn't particularly reciprocated so, (rightfully) figured he didn't have a chance, but you can know something like that and still have it hurt even more once it's visibly confirmed. And this dude had it confirmed in the most graphic way possible, that there was never any chance. Seeing her like that after putting her on a pedestal (pg. 7) also didn't help. It's a stinger for him to be sure but still all in all the feelings in this one ran too shallow for it to be that hard hitting of a BSS story, IMO.
This woman is walking red flag, and the MC will probably look back at this and realize he dodged a bullet. It sucks in short term, though.
The main problem I find with BSS stories is that they're typically filled with some of the worst women you could ever date. I know this is a personal preference, but I don't think I'm alone here.
BSS again, huh…
I wasn’t really previously aware of this genre, but it seems to be kinda prominent lately, and has ruined a handful of manga for me. I guess I’ll just block it and keep moving.
