After a bit of thought I don't buy the idea of her repaying him. Sleep sex is a selfish act. It amounts to masterbation with someone's body as a tool. The story drops a big hint without following it up. On page 6, panel 3,
we are told Akemi "apparently" goes to school every day; she buys a
lot of makeup; and she seems to have a lot of spending money; all of
which strongly suggests she's a "JK Girl" who spends the day at love
hotels with generous older men, instead of going to school.

passage from the Wiki article:

But I want to go on further to say that it seems extremely likely that she ran away from home *that day* when he picked her up. Her comment stating that she hasn't decided where to go atleast alludes to the possibility of that. Her comment about not wanting to get the police involved can be attributed to the likelihood that they'll just send her back home since there isn't any indication of physical abuse, or that any money that she may or may not have taken. If she were to be involved in Enkou, it's unlikely that it would have been brought up to the police to begin with since the problem at hand is that she *ran away*.
The condoms she had on hand were bought right before the first sex scene too, seeing as she pulled them out of the same bag as her cup ramen, and considering she only had a button-down shirt and panties on, she seems to have been intentionally seducing him (which also explains why she almost immediately went for his dick as soon as he said he was gonna sleep). Further, when the guy texts her that he's going to be late from work, we see her sitting at the table with her pencil pouch, school bag, and what looks to be a notebook/workbook -atleast indicating that she's working on homework, which means she actually is going to school. Additionally, the "apparently" is likely just another way of translating "it seems" or "from what I can tell", a common shorter version you see in JAPN to ENG translations that kind of change the tone unintentionally. I can't confirm that last part cuz I don't have the original japanese script on hand tho.
All in all, I personally see her as someone who ran away from home for not fitting into the social norm of her family (she uses their money for makeup, etc. She seems to have atleast decent amount of experience with sex, which is frowned upon considering she's a highschooler, but we can chalk that up to this being a hentai and the artist wants to draw hot scenes). She's picked up by the MC at the end of the first night which can be seen by the state of her clothing and word choice, and she looks to be actively seducing him considering her attire at home and propensity to try and get naked in front of him (which seems to have happened before). And now that he's like "I'll never kick you out and I'll take care of you", she finds the home she was looking for.

It's not 100%, but I would speculate that she already had a bunch of makeup that she took with her when she ran away and, seeing as her hair isn't the normal black color, she might have hung out with the flashy/gyaru kind of crowd. Considering the stigma of that subculture in Japan (as well as the fact that anything outside of the very narrow "quiet and pure" look is highly discouraged), I can see that as enough reason to be shamed in Japanese culture. She's also been living with him for a while, and while it wasn't explicitly stated, he's likely giving her an allowance.

I welcome your counter-speculation. If the MC is giving Akemi
an allowance, he himself notes that she has a "helluva" lot more
money than he's giving her, even though she has no (regular) job.

Plus, there are other clues I didn't mention. To quote Sogeking79:

Individually, each clue can be explained away by placing it within
some innocent context, but when you add them all together, they
spell J-K G-I-R-L. It's quite possible that Akemi's family gave her
the boot because she was already skipping school and working
as a JK Girl (which would bring great shame on her family, from
the Japanese point of view).

Unless by some miraculous occurrence the artist reveals that, in this scenario, the school system is paying Akemi and others to come to school, I have little choice but to accept H-Connoisseur's speculation.

Conclusion: the Vanilla is laced with a deep dose of "Crunchy Frog" (those who know the term will understand). With that, I think this quote from a 1990s martial arts movie (or at least its English dubbing) fits this new outlook on this story rather well:

Well it doesn’t look to be that bad (apart from the rape)- the girl seemed to display all the signs of being unloved by her family, which ties in well with the idea of forming casual relationships or working as a JK girl to fill the void for meaningful relationships. While we can’t comment with certainty on her past, the panel showing her doing her HW as well as the act to entice the MC in his room (when you think about it, a JK girl would have just gone off to work) suggests she’s trying to redeem herself because she feels she has someone she can trust. It’s interesting that she first identified him as †˜Onii-chan’ after he displayed the protective brother attribute and then switched to †˜darling’ after he confessed to her. It could mean nothing but it would seem to tie in with her need for the customary familial and companion relationships. A usual JK girl would be more wary and scheming, but her naivety here and quick trust hints at something deeper.

I dunno what her past was, but her †˜redemption arc’ and her comment about the two of them †˜growing’ suggest she’s learned about a deeper type of relationship that has pushed her away from her past frivolities. As you would say, there’s some DEEP SHIT here concerning the girl’s psychology.

I must say that the ending of this put a smile on my face. He did not just let her have a place to stay, he gave her a place to call Home and somewhere to find hope for her future. I am really intrigued as to what her back story is and I really hope that we get to find out more as well as see her find happiness with her darling.
