As some of you know, I am now in my senior year of college and studying women/gender studies as my minor.
In my class, focused on gender's roles in technology, we are looking into the gendered aspects of MMORPGs. Since this is an online community, I thought I'd ask around here if anyone's played an MMORPG and would like to comment.
(I tried conducting this research on the only thing close to an MMO I've ever played, Gaia Online's Towns *but not since 2008 lol...* but they have been tough to get any comprehensible responses from given their age range, haha).
We read an anthroplogocial account of WoW by a female author, called My Life as Night Elf Priest, and I'm framing my questions in a manner like the book did.
I would like to hear your input on how gender plays a role in your MMO experience(s).

I would like to hear your input on how gender plays a role in your MMO experience(s).
For example, some leading questions to guide your responses:
- How does your chosen avatar gender and manner of dressing affect your interactions with others ingame?
- Are there stereotypes for genders within the game? If so, do they reflect ones in real life?
- Gender also includes race and class ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender ) : how do you feel these are experienced or enforced ingame?
(If you want more discussion topics, I suggest checking out the articles on gender in gaming/game design here, http://paxvalkyrie.tumblr.com/ ; she reblogs some very interesting material.)
tl;dr version:
Talk about any MMORPG you have experience with in terms of gender and sex, and some themes that have stood out for you.
Your username, age, etc. will not be recorded, just observations on your responses.
If you would like to PM me your response that is also acceptable.
Oh, and if you could answer before Tuesday morning, that'd be swell... it's due then -3-;

Ehh, well, eventually I'll write a blurb on the main introduction board, but this just seems so much more convenient...I'm 22, female, college graduate in psychology, Japanese, and education! I'm from California and I've been Fakku'ing since...I don't even know. Probably when college started? Anyway. I draw, karaoke, watch anime from time to time, but I really enjoy devoting my time to Japanese history. I don't really have a career path yet, but I work at a lovely bookstore that hopefully won't go out of business anytime soon. One day I'd like to be a professor!
I play Final Fantasy in my spare time, and I have a habit of getting to the last disc and never finishing them (ala PSX). I like to swim and I also do kendo.
Nice to meet you all!
:D Cool beans! It's nice to hear that a college grad is having a good life... facing my senior year right now lol, 22 as well.

- getting pregnant. Sometimes for no reason at all, I start to panic "what about if I'm pregnant now" or something like that. I'm on pills, so the change is very small, but its still there. So when this happens, I can panic about it for a week or 2 and when this happens, I start seeing signs of me being pregnant every where. And then I panic, because I have loads of reasons not to want a child, but zero reasons to want one.
O_O THIS... ugu this is why if/when I ever have (any ;3;') sex on a regular basis, I'd be worried all the time... I super do NOT want kids either, at least not for a long time.
Alright, I haven't completed these two pages yet, but here are the previews of at least the textless panels.

Not studying art enough, and not learning the basics of life/realistic drawing.
Ever since I got into Pokemon way back when my style's veered toward the cartoonish/anime lol... damn.

I agree that you don't need to "omg re-examine my life based on my past", but if the issues persist and you can't remedy them, that can (and probably will, as most relationships require a good balance of emotional AND physical intimacy to some degree) lead to a lot of frustration on your partner's part.
Short term, yes, you can explain it. But eventually you might desire intimacy and be unable to feel comfort in it, which will additionally frustrate you. My earlier post was a more long term solution to deal with that.

Modesty doesn't lead to fame, but it leads to respect.
What matters is that he's still, even in death, remembered and loved by so many for his work. And to someone like him, that probably meant enough. :)

Maybe medium length, feathered.
I always like having slightly longish hair in winter, keeps me warm!
Unless where you are it isn't winter, or winters aren't cold...

...Btw, "Tegs/Waar owning the site" jokes aside, um who IS running the site now that Jake is in TX?
I mean... the servers are still on the east coast, no? @_@ Kinda curious.

You mean as an epitaph?
Probably something simple but meaningful... I'd have to think hard about it!
Or maybe a good Wilde quote. Do love his witticisms.

Step 1... be Japanese. This is a must.
Step 2... acting school and voice coaching, then look for VA roles.
But if you can't pass Step 1 (aka you are just a VA otaku who wants to learn Japanese and move there on a dream-filled whim), you're not going to get far.

Ok so i found out he still isn't over his ex. They've broken up for a year now. Some of my friends said not to be a rebound. Should i confess and see where it goes from there or should i continue to be just a friend and build that bond...?Hmmm. Well, after a YEAR, I don't know that it'd be a typical "rebound".
But if he's still dreaming of the ex... might wanna wait until he comes to terms with that.

just about every type of abuse. my childhood sucked.I am really, really sorry to hear that...I can't even say I can understand how you feel. That cannot have been easy.
The only suggestion I can provide is therapy. Something to help you address and cope with triggers of your abusive past and learn to trust psychical contact again, slowly.
