Why are we idolizing a depraved criminal? Sure, he's funny, but the fact a major television studio has been employing him so long (KNOWING all these things about him) speaks poorly to our nation's state and culture.
Short answer: He's living the 'American Dream' (without much hard work).
In his current situation, he can basically blow off thousands of dollars a day and still have millions left by the time he dies. People wish they were him I guess.
The "American dream" is getting to a high position by, indeed, doing hard work, not becoming infamous for average comedy acting with a crazy personality...
Sheen was never at much of a disadvantage: he's a white, upper class, male actor.
Thus society grants him LOTS of privileges. :(

What's wrong with Jack Sparrow?
Ever see that Robot Chicken sketch?
The comedian Margaret Cho did a show at my college recently...
She talked about how once when she meant to "sext" a partner "I'm about to come!", she sent the message to her MOM.
Who replied... "OOOOOOOOOOH GOOD YOU COMING HOME? I MAKE DINNER. WHAT TIME?" etc.

Downward leveling means only so much to the magnet making corporate giants.
Or this.

They are all fantasy, with the exception of Orson Scott Card, but you don't get more fictiony than fantasy. You seem to be under an impression that great writing abilities in structured essays transfers to story writing ability.
That is incorrect.
Lol... didn't mean that. Guess what I said came out wrong.
I want to learn to use my writing knowledge towards a new type of writing; I don't think I'm at all above learning a lot, as that surely will be necessary!

Your voice must be malleable and varied. You must know how to craft a compelling story. You must keep a world, that doesn't exist, consistent with itself for the entire span of your writing. (Not such a problem with short stories though, if that is what you are aiming for) You have to make up characters, entire personalities, appearances, and voices that will be separate from your own voice and personality, and keep them consistent and interesting. You need to be able to paint with your language. To make the reader smell your world. Hear it. Taste it. Feel its texture in the palm of their hand.
There are few similarities between academic analytical writing, and fiction writing. To use the words of one of Patrick Rothfuss' character speaking of chemistry and alchemy: "They're not even related. They just happen to live in the same house."
In short. Use the tips in the OP. Read fiction. Practice writing fiction. There is no shortcut or pointers that will overcome that step in your development.
Thanks. I am certainly going to work on reading some, but I don't want to merely borrow author styles.
I need to find my own voice, so I guess that will take a lot of trial and error. :)
Define "improved".
If you mean making custom graphics using other artists' work, that's not really improvement. Improvement is a relative term.

they share the same director!!This movie officially sucks now.
Might be same producer, not director... need to check my facts. ><;
Either way, it could be decent. The Twilight films had horrid plot and characters, as well as effects, but the films' staff/creatives really catered to fans and made HUGE box office impact... thought that doesn't make a quality "film", it does make a blockbuster.
Personally, I am not rushing to see it, but may check it out sometime.
Funny at first, for sure, but sad and a bit wrong that we continue to glorify his actions.
Think about it: the person is addicted to an illegal, and highly dangerous, substance. He has a history of verbal and physical violence, disregard for others, and an air of superiority due to a brief "glory day" of a career. Add a god complex to that, and you have recipe for disaster.
If this sort of person walked up to you on the street, would you high-five them or run away?
Why are we idolizing a depraved criminal? Sure, he's funny, but the fact a major television studio has been employing him so long (KNOWING all these things about him) speaks poorly to our nation's state and culture.
In addition... hate to bring in the dreaded "oh herp derp feminist" spin here, but also consider: if this were a major actress, would it still be (in the words of Sheen) "WINNING"?
I feel not... see how society has outcast (while also excusing, to a degree, due to celebrity status) female stars like Brittney Spears and Lindsey Lohan for going off their rockers.

It looked too much like Twilight, so no.Judging a book by its cover =/= Judging a movie by its trailer.
I agree.
You're both correct to think that: they share the same director!!
Watched a documentary film called "Coexist" at a school-sponsored showing and lecture last week.
http://www.coexistdocumentary.org/
(full film also on Vimeo : http://vimeo.com/15328036 )
Really sad, but informative stuff: it covers the effects of the 1994 genocide commited in Rwanda, speaking to both the perpetrators and victims of the violence and civil unrest.
Chilling, but very poignant... poses a lot of questions about how people can learn to either forgive, continue grudges, violence, hate, etc, or merely "coexist".

Depends on what you consider easy, but it does allow me to watch anime on a big screen. And thanks to it, I have brought several people over to anime. Before they were like "eh, it's okay." Now they are going "Don't you dare watch any without me!"So it has it's uses. >:D
Really though, they do have some cool titles nonetheless. Like host club and X. That list above is by no means everything, and while they don't always have every season available for online watching, (I use the Wii) they often do have complete seasons of shows that are not beyond 26 episodes.
I say, anime for $8 is a win, even if it is mainstream. As far as I can tell, there are no subbed cuz I haven't seen any, but that's no surprise. Royalties can be a pain. lol
Ha, true.
My only sadface to all this is, from what I have tried on there, they don't offer subbed series, only dubs. :(
A real shame, since that's usually a DVD feature.
It's like... would you watch a foreign film dubbed these days?
And if you wanted to, would it be the first option presented? No.
Online film companies need to get with the times...
Question for the fiction writers!!!
I was going to make a new thread, but this sorrrrrrt of falls under the sticky.
I am a good writer, not going to lie: I am not the best, but I am pretty confident in my style, quality, voice, and structure when it comes to academic-style writing. However, I have sort of let fiction fall by the wayside in my work, and I'd like to improve/explore the genre as an outlet. Specifically, errr... works of a hentai nature (not manga... lol I don't have the drawing skill required).
While I used to be more interested and educated in writing quality fiction, I have not had much need or opportunity recently as most of my work is academic, critical, or research based.
Short of copying or mimicking popular story styles, courses or formats, how can one write effective fiction? Any resources would be great.
I've got down the mechanics of formal writing quite well, but need some pointers as to writing for a different genre/voice/etc. in an effective (and non amateur-ish) way.

At times and for many people in crisis (or even normal times), it does help to have some belief in a higher power "watching out" for you and your loved ones.
But always remember: most religions' gods are said to have granted humanity free will. So you need to be proactive in your life as well, and not simply use faith or belief in a god as a crutch. :)
So, in short, you can really believe in a god or not: it won't affect your life beyond the realm your personal beliefs and morals, if you are rational about it.

No, there's no real harm in it. That's what it's made for.Hibernate takes what's in your computer's RAM, writes it to the hard drive, and does a does a normal shut down. The next time you turn on the PC, it reads the saved data off the drive again, and you pick up where you left off. It's like a saved game file. Once the data is saved, you can even remove the battery from the laptop and you won't lose any data.
Sleep mode keeps the PC powered on, but shuts off things like fans and disk drives and screens to save power, and gives minimal power to the CPU and RAM to keep your data saved temporarily. It obviously uses more power than Hibernate, but doesn't waste time loading your saved data from disk.
In either case, there is little risk of damage to your laptop.
However, you might want to restart your laptop occasionally after installing things like system updates.
In certain cases, some badly-written programs may slow down the computer with memory leaks or temp files or other crap over time, in which case a restart will also help to speed things up.
That was very informative! Thank you. :o
