Thank you, Hibia. (I say this a lot don't I; lol) It's funny how there are homosexual connotations when a guy says to another guy 'you look nice' or when guys hug each other, and it's normal for girls to do the same things to one another. Hmm.

Also, you have to find the right place and time to do it, whereas with masturbation all you need is some free time and somewhere where you can hide for about 10 minutes. But I contradict myself. I find the best sex is when you're doing it with someone you like a lot (I won't say love; what is love anyway?), and it's not about satisfying your lust or reaching orgasm (masturbation is better for that). Slow, regular thrusts while caressing gently, deep kisses, and soft, lovey-dovey talk you wouldn't normally say. But I digress.
I suppose my conclusion is that masturbating is best for relieving your lust. For me at least, it has nothing to do with getting laid or not. Sure, I lust after a few girls other than my girlfriend (hey, who doesn't? lol) but I'm a devoted little idiot and will have sex only with her; therefore, masturbation can be quite helpful.

I think SiC hit most of the points there. But if I may chip something in, long-distance relationships don't work. They just don't. Stuff like trusting each other is bull in real life, especially if the two of you are on opposite sides of the globe. Believe me, I've been on the receiving end of this.
To be honest, what I'd do in your case is just not to bother with either of them. If you start dating your best friend's girlfriend, he will hate you for it, whether he's open about it or not. And I'll probably get flamed for this, but there's really more to life than boy-girl stuff (although it is a big part). I personally treasure friendships more than relationships (the latter seems to be more spontaneous and unstable). If things don't work out, move on; why risk the possibility of losing your best friend AND your new (his old) girlfriend? In any case, time is better spent elsewhere if you're going to sacrifice so much for a relationship that you're not even certain about.

Well good for you. For most of us, effort is needed. From my experience with women, they tend to be quite adverse with matters of sex unless you chance upon them at the right place and the right time, and they're in the right mood.
