Buy the console version.No! XD
It rather defeats the purpose of getting a gaming PC if I don't play games on it and I hate buying multiple copies of a game if there aren't serious improvements between them. (Like Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories for the PS2). Besides, I bought the Quakecon bundle on Steam and it had all of the DLC for all of the games included.
Ironically the game ran fine today, but the recommendation of Compatibility mode does have me curious. Should I use XP compatibility mode or Vista?
T^T
Noooo... Please tell me that someone knows how to beat this beast.
...Meh. I'll send Bethesda Support a strongly worded objection to their casual dismissal of my plight. They shall cower before my rage.(If you knew me you would know that I can't do mean or rude very well)
But seriously, I would love to hear any theories. They did mention that compatibility mode might be necessary, should I bother trying with it or just bug them until they bother thinking? If yes, what should I set the compatibility mode to?

Before anyone says "Maybe you should call Bethesda" I did. I don't think they read what I wrote concerning my processor so I'm annoyed. I seriously doubt it's the processor as I can play Starcraft 2 on high with no issues. All they really said was that I should try using compatibility mode. Oh, did I say that my issue is random freezing of the game? Music/noise keeps playing but all input (Keyboard or Controller) is frozen and I have to use the task manager to close the game.
System Specs
Windows 7 64bit
AMD Quad core A8 APU, 1.5 GHz
6GB RAM
(Xbox360 Controller)
Issue: Game Freezes, typically indoors. Music plays but nonresponive, task manager says "Not Responding." The problem is intermittent, but tends to happen shortly after loading the game.
I haven't tweaked any settings on the computer or the game except for disabling desktop composition for Fallout 3. It shouldn't matter, but I bought it through Steam.
Any ideas?

Thank you for the advice. I'll definitely leave the motherboard alone and try boosting the graphics card a little bit. I'll probably get the 5770 you guys recommended.

Speaking of Firefox, is it worth updating to Firefox 4?
Actually, we're up to Firefox 5(!). As far as I can tell, there's no reason not to at the moment. I haven't heard any particularly vehement complaints other than the usual, "it's not Chrome" whines.
The only reason I'm still using the version I am is because I'm too lazy to see if the Greasemonkey apps I have will work on the new version. Ok, I'm also not sure about the new layout; but that's the main reason. As for Chrome, I liked it but there was something I needed firefox for. Can't really remember what it was though.
Thanks for all the advice so far, but now for a random and likely dangerous question: Should I attempt to overclock the CPU when I get it? I know I'll likely need some better cooling equipment, but is it worth it?

Video card memory doesn't mean jack when you don't have the processing power to push those pixels. For ~$100 mark look at the 5770 which should be able to run most modern games with most of the eye candy on.
A quad-core should have enough muscle though, right?

Also get the NoScript plugin for Firefox if you haven't already great when you're browsing shady websites.Speaking of Firefox, is it worth updating to Firefox 4? I haven't bothered checking to see if Greasemonkey works on the full release (it didn't on the beta). As for NoScript, I forgot that I didn't have it on this laptop so thanks for reminding me.
Thanks for the advice guys. I'll at least save some cash in a few months when this AV subscription runs out and I know what to look for graphics wise. Did any of you have any opinions on the computer itself?
So yeah, I'm fairly lazy and very short on funds but I want to play Starcraft 2 and other games without my computer (or even the software as with SC2) griping at me.
I have my eyes set on either this computer or maybe this one; but let's bet on the first one.
Here's it's stats:
Processor: Athlon II 645, 3.1 GHz
6 GB DDR3 RAM
1 TB HDD
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 4200, 2k+ shared memory
Sound card: "High Definition Audio with up to 7.1-channel surround sound"
Price: $499.99
I plan on getting a graphics card with 512MB to 1GB of memory or something decent between $80 ~ $110 if necessary.
Next on the list: Anti-virus. I know how to muck about with some stuff, but does Avast really work? I'll just say that I have a bad habit of looking for pron while half asleep (case in point: The number of typos I've had to correct while typing this at 1 AM) so every now and then I run into a semi-dangerous neighborhood according to McAfee or Cisco. I can use Malwarebytes so is it worth saving the extra $50 a year?
Again, forgive my ineptitude; I'm up way too late and I would really like some advice on getting a new desktop as I doubt my current laptop can properly handle something like SC2. (AMD Turion Dual core, 3GB Ram, ATI Radeon 4250)

Sometimes, it depends on what the thread is. If it's an image thread I'll skim until I find something I want or I'll just backup the whole thread and eventually post a .zip of the whole thing. If it's an actual discussion I and I actually have something to say I'll try and read the whole thing (I sometimes have the whole thing open in tabs) before I reply.

They already have, it's called Windows XP.Knew I was forgetting something! But still, why bother with a new OS so soon? Is Microsoft going to hold the the "ever other Windows is crappy" idea and get the crappy one out of the way sooner this time?
I tried the combo platter of Maddog53 and Kaimax's suggestions before posting this. I ran in compatability mode for XP SP3 with several of the other settings (including the "Run in 640 x 480 resolution" opting) but no dice. Don't get me wrong, all of the programs I have so far run, some of them just won't run in full screen for some reason.
I asked something like this as an aside a few months back, but I ran into the problem again recently. I have a few VNs on external HDs and some that are installed on my C: Drive on Windows 7. For some reason a few of them refuse to properly run in full screen, instead staying at window size with a very large black border. For example: Bible Black runs fine as does Princess Waltz, but Cat Girl Alliance and The Sagara Family refuse to cooperate. Any ideas?
