So my question, Fakku. Do I have an obligation to leave the subject alone with my stepbrother out of respect for his mother's desire to raise him christian? Or is the answer: Fuck her. Different worldviews exist, and he's gotta learn some day?[color=#2e1a6b]11 is a little young; he can't really reason for himself yet, and must go by what others tell him. Sure he's gotta learn different worldviews some day, but it doesn't have to be now.
Since he initiated the discussion, I don't think you should be blamed for anything. But I still think you should wait until he's older

where's yours?

You misquoted the entire statement that Obama made about building small businesses and....well not misquoted but straight up lied.
[color=#2e1a6b]hmmm...

[color=#2e1a6b]yep, total lie
I would say half of the republican party has taken the libertarian stance and it hasn't even worked at all.
[color=#2e1a6b]bullshit
[color=#2e1a6b]I've got the Chrome adblock, but those pop-ups are getting through (it blocks the normal ads). however, I don't really mind, since they are necessary to pay for the server bandwidth
from the last pop-up thread:
- They appear in a window behind the active window, not in front
- They don't make noise
- They don't appear while you're in the middle of fapping

Okay first off, Obama is an American and eligible to be the president.
[color=#2e1a6b]great, if only you had proof
Most of the birther movement has a discriminatory tinge to it and the Repubs/Libertarians are doing it because he is black(Hell the guy is only half and this is how we treat him?)
[color=#2e1a6b]Wow, already pulled the "racist" card. One is not free from criticism/opposition simply because of his race. You are actually committing Ad Hominum by calling us racists.
I would love to have a black president... if he was a libertarian, or at least close to a libertarian.
Secondly, where were these guys at when Bush or Clinton or Reagan was in office? Why all of the sudden Obama gets in, we question his birth?
[color=#2e1a6b]Because there is evidence that Obama's birth certificate is fraud. There wasn't any evidence that past presidents were not natural born citizens, therefore there were no allegations.
Thirdly, what atrocities did he commit?
[color=#2e1a6b]I already explained above. I realize that you're new here, but please read at least some of the thread before posting.
Spoiler:
Fourth, that quote got taken out of context so badly. There's misquoting and then there's lying.
[color=#2e1a6b]Um... which quote are you talking about? who misquoted it? how did they misquote it? who was lying? what was the lie?
^kinda important information you left out
Finally, not caring about what others have to say proves that you can never be taken seriously at all.
[color=#2e1a6b]I didn't say that I didn't care about what others say; I said that I didn't care if he could prove his accusation against republicans, since I'm not a republican. Quite hypocritical of you since you just accused someone of misquoting

[color=#2e1a6b]Obama isn't even an eligible president. The birth certificate he took forever to release was a forgeryARE WE STILL ON THIS!!! It was claimed to be a forgery.
[color=#2e1a6b]Are you even trying? That is known is Argument of repetition, and it's a logical fallacy. I doubt you even listened to the evidence. There is electronic evidence that the document was modified, as well as an inconsistency with the "vital statistics coding".
I seriously doubt that republicans really even cared whether or not it was real.
[color=#2e1a6b]Um... of course republicans (as well as libertarians like me) care whether or not it's real. If it's fake, then he is ineligible for president
They just get all on Obama becasue he isn't on their wing.
[color=#2e1a6b]We get on Obama because of all the atrocities he's done as president
Just look at how they hounded him over the whole "If you got a business" thing.
[color=#2e1a6b]your right, we shouldn't oppose a president preaching communism, and we should thank him for saying that we didn't build our own business.
They completely misquoted him and then made an entire campaign on it.
[color=#2e1a6b]You need to provide a source for such a claim, though, I really don't care

Obama has been trampling our civil liberties. Any "liberal" who still supports Obama at this point in time is mentally ill or really isn't a liberal. Left/Right, Communist/Libertarian/Whatever we can all agree that we have rights and they should be protected from those who would deny them.

[color=#2e1a6b]I love softcore Femdom (this is my favorite doujin on fakku), but I don't like Femdom when it has pegging/shibari. Though, I don't think this means that I dislike Femdom, since I don't like pegging/shibari in any situation, not just femdoms.
[color=#2e1a6b]Outside of serious discussion, I don't really enjoy the community. It's not y'all... it's me. I'm just not very social, and I don't make friends easily. It seems that most threads I post in are just stating my opinion about something, and... that's all; Not really much conversation, but that's my fault. Some people like Artcellrox seem to be able to quote anyone and start a conversation; I just can't do that.
Within SD, I love the community. Several users have a lot in common with me (Jash2o2, FPoD, Lishy1) and it really feels nice to work together to argue an issue. I've got some intelligent opposition (Biglundi, Flaser), but there seems to be an increasing number of underaged/stupid users in SD. I recently participated in a few debates on facebook, and I absolutely hated it (they don't even address my arguments). My debates on facebook made me realize how awesome the SD community is. I've been taking it for granted, but now I really appreciate it

Crazy people exist, with or without gun laws. Stop bickering over something that has little to nothing to do with the topic. Even if people had the right to have guns on them, having guns there is unlikely because it's a bloody movie theater. And he would clearly out-gun any sane person anyways.
[color=#2e1a6b]If everyone in the theater had a concealed weapon, do you really think he could injure 59 people and escape unscathed?
Of course, this is a ridiculous scenario, as no one would ever attempt a shooting under such conditions (unless they intend to get shot)

There's no evidence that innocent people owning guns deter crime from happening. In fact, people who own guns are just as likely to commit crimes in their own household.[color=#2e1a6b]You obviously don't know what you're talking about
In 1997, the United Kingdom pretty much banned the right to own a gun
Following the Dunblane massacre, the government passed the Firearms (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 1997, banning private ownership of handguns almost completely, although the official inquiry, known as the Cullen Inquiry, had not recommended this. Exceptions to the ban include muzzle-loading "black powder" guns, pistols produced before 1917, pistols of historical interest (such as pistols used in notable crimes, rare prototypes, unusual serial numbers and so on), starting pistols, pistols that are of particular aesthetic interest (such as engraved or jewelled guns) and shot pistols for pest control.
[color=#2e1a6b]After this, crime rates doubled:
Since 1998, the number of people injured by firearms in England and Wales increased by 110%, from 2,378 in 1998/99 to 5,001 in 2005/06.

This is exactly why I'm against the right to bare arms. Something needs to be done to get weapons out of peoples' hands because too many people abuse the privilege. Its unrealistic though since criminals will get their hands on weapons even if a law to ban them was passed. I'm afraid its too late to do anything to prevent tragedies like this.[color=#2e1a6b]Some people are doing something illegal! quick, make more laws to stop them!

Outlawing guns will mean that only outlaws will have guns
(I blame lordisgaea3 for causing this thread to get moved into random, though, a better title would have helped)
[color=#2e1a6b]Obama is trying to sign a treaty with the UN that will allow the UN to ban pretty much all guns. He intends the sign the treaty a week from now.
Either this was a setup by the government, or it was a very convenient coincidence.

Let me clarify so that you don't respond with a straw-man argument: I'm not saying that someone will be like "lol a rape joke, I guess it isn't as tragic as I thought it was... I'm gonna rape someone now because I heard that joke". What I'm saying is that a large majority of people will be just a little more likely to rape. If someone that was on the borderline of raping heard the joke, this could effect whether or not he rapes.
Essentially my counter to that is to provide statistics or you have no argument.
[color=#2e1a6b]Neither of us have statistics on the effects of rape jokes, nor is it possible to track statistics on such an issue.
Though, I'd like to ask you: which step of my reasoning do you disagree with?
- Being more comfortable with rape jokes make people think it's less tragic
- Thinking it's less tragic will slightly increase the probability of one committing rape
- A slight increase in the probability of one committing rape could alter whether or not one rapes
Your first step is nothing more than an opinion , nothing founded , you said it yourself , you have no statistic to base your argument on ...
[color=#2e1a6b]While it is an opinion, it is more than just an opinion; it is an assertion. If I added the words "I think" before I said that, then it would become nothing more than an opinion. As I've already said, I don't have any proof of my assertion, nor do you have any proof against it. The reason I made that assertion is because Biglundi also made a similar assertion:

We're trying to turn something tragic into something bearable. That's the point of humor in the first place.I would even argue against it , not only against it but i think it's totaly the reverse situation happening.
[color=#2e1a6b]Um... your final paragraph seemed to argue for my assertion, not the reverse:
When you speak abouth rape , even if it's in a joke format , there is one thing that change in peoples mind ; it become less taboo . You think a rape victime in the 50s would have gone to the police and say that his father raped her ? No because it was so shamefull for the person and anyway the police would have done nothing . The more we speak abouth taboo subjects (a subject is known as not taboo anymore once you can freely do jokes abouth it) the more people are aware of the subject , aware of the reality of the problem . The joke itself might not have any impact on the population , but if you are an offended journalist that heard the joke , let me tell you that people will talk abouth it more than enough .
