Haaa.... another amateur.

As any intelligence expert worth their salt will tell you, torture is not good to get information. It is a good a method to *confirm* stuff you already know, as well as to break somebody and make them "do a confession" (of whatever you want).

To successfully interrogate someone, it is their will that you have to break. Torture is no good, because the poor bugger is in too much pain to think and will tell you the first thing to end it.

Drugs and sleep deprivation can be handy since they lower the target's awareness and they will fall for logical fallacies and setups more easily.

In the end though, what works is plain old face-to-face interrogation: talking and talking convincingly. Threats and intimidation may crack the suspect, and even threats of torture - enforced by actual sessions if he persist - may do it...
...but never trust info got from somebody under torture. Torture can be a bargaining chip in enforcing complicity, but it won't get you reliable intel.

You may think this is "soft", but a good interrogator can get a surprisingly lot of a suspect by merely playing his mind games and plain 'ol being *GOOD* at his job.
This is further reinforced by the fact that very few people ever get training to resist interrogation. They want to talk, they wanna tell their story, they want to reaffirmation of their humanity through human contact. So talk they will...

...however irresponsibly torturing them will just muddy up your investigation. They will tell you whatever you want to hear, not what they know.

As for you suspect detailed above: I would calmly ask him questions pertaining his involvement in the affair. After we're done with the warm up one of my "colleagues" will offer to get tough on the guy and threaten him with all kinds of bodily harm...

...I will decline his offer and kindly ask to leave this to professionals. This is a basic good-cop/bad-cop setup, but it works because the subject is a human and is hardwired to psych himself onto us.

Next I will ask for the ropes to be loosened, and the subject secured with more comfortable means. (Like a handcuffs chained to the floor). I won't need to keep him immobile. All the while I have to keep my composure and keep a detached, cool demeanor.

Then we begin: In vivid detail, I list all the charges and crimes that the suspect can be charged with. I list all the maximum punishments for said crimes including corporal punishment that a military tribunal can sentence him to for spying and terrorism.

Most civilized subjects will crack at this point.

Religious fanatics may hold on, as they have a martyr complex. It's time to detail what their family and friends will go through after wards: 24/7 observation, harassment, frequent interrogations at the police. Since my department has a 100% success in cracking suspects they will be also suspected by his allies. If instead harassment I let them go without any "untoward action" then it will the insurgents who purge his loved ones...

...this can unnerve most people.

Then I can really have a go at him: threaten to set him loose, with his wounds patched up, a bunch of money stuffed in his pocket and not a scruff for my interrogation. It's not me he's gona fear - it's his employers or brothers in arms - who will take him for a turn-coat, a Quisling, a traitor - and are likely to purge him and his family.
