Edit: Also all of the lurkers of the site are going to move, you know that right? That is already a huge portion of the Fakku's visitorsWe know o.O people keep saying this as if we had no idea that would happen.
Lurkers make the majority of this website's traffic. Those lurkers are potential customers, that Fakku could comercialize if they kept working with scanlations or at least have free content (a la spotify)
and according to my Marketing team as I work in e-commerce.
Only 10% will pay, while 1% will become Loyal customers.
NO, FAKKU cannot work anymore with Scanlations as those are illegal. That's like Steam having a torrent section in their store.
Free content will come, but it's still in talks as Fakku is still New in this and probably needs to negotiate back and forth with the License Holders.

Other sites offer more content than Fakku and for free. You can't beat that. I don't know hwo fakku has gotten in trouble with DMCA or any sorts, but there are a lot of good hentai websites that offer more than fakku without any problems, because its in a grey area. So fakku doesn't have precisely the upperhand. It's the death of the site, lurkers will move to other places, given the abundance of free sites. Not as good as fakku, but free of paywalls and malware.
First and foremost, Fakku is Legal.
Second, Fakku isn't trying to compete with other "Free" sites
Third.

Just shows how ignorant and Spoiled you are as a netizen. Your "good hentai sites" isn't safe from a DMCA and no it's not in a Gray zone, and Japan is getting harsher and trying harder to do that.

But removing such a huge portion of the site's audience is going to hurt fakku in the long run.Fakku doesn't have license to the removed content, hence the removal. That's like Crunchyroll uploading anime episodes that they don't have license to or STEAM having a dedicated torrent section for games that they don't have license to sell.
Everything in Fakku now is LEGAL.

a DMCA will kill Fakku faster than fakku getting losses monthly.

Seriously, if you try to be taken seriously as a business, then act like one for gods sake. You learned absolutely nothing from the last outrage. Do you really think any service provider or content provider would get away with suddenly deleting content their customers paid for? (Even if it was content that did not have to be paid for in the first place). Imagine Microsoft saying: "Eh, oh sorry, we dropped support for all previous OS yestereday. What you didn't know? Well, why didn't you ask?"First and foremost Fakku has no rights and licenses to those "removed content", they were Illegal for Fakku to have on site.
Second you're not paying for those removed content, the subs are for chapters published in Comic Kairakuten and Comic Eros by Wani Magazine, that Fakku has license to sell.

But at the end of the day removing all the content was a wrong move. If the artist isn't interested in translating his content for western audiences then what do you expect us to do? You could get their "blessing", ask them for an official digital release or even pay them for their work. Erasing their existence from the site does nothing to help them promote their work to to West. Releases from 2-3 magazines won't do much cause a lot of the stuff you had were released independently. It's not about piracy, it never was. It's about Japanese artists thinking their audience is restricted within the boundaries of Japan.
Without referring to the content being unlicensed hence Illegal for Fakku to have on site, while trying to be Legal.
First and foremost, Most of those content wasn't uploaded or worked by Fakku themselves. Hence creating all kinds of hoops Fakku has to do to keep them in the site. It's much easier for Fakku to remove them completely and have the authors themselves confirm that they want it.
and Second, Some of those are chapters from competitors Magazines of the sole publisher that fakku is currently partnered with.
These are all moot if we refer them back as being Illegal.
As if Fakku did that, it will be Like Steam if they had a free torrent section filled with games that they don't have license to sell. Or Crunchyroll having anime episodes uploaded without their licenses.
Yes, Fakku is thinking about the artists, Remember Bosshi? Who was invited to attend Anime Expo. Fakku made that possible.

What I dislike about this decision that it seems to include fanworks as well, doujinshi made by amateur artists who love a series and want to share their love of that series via fan-comics. I understand, of course, that said doujinshi are not necessarily meant to be freely distributed online, but they are--to my admittedly loose understanding--printed in numbers strictly limited by the resources of the artist and/or circle, and generally only sold at comic conventions in Japan. Plus, since they feature copyrighted characters in materials that are almost certainly not licensed by their parent companies/copyright holders, I highly doubt that any legal, commercial English-language publishers will touch them any time soon.

Doujins are not fully legal in Japan. They are in a grey zone and the anime companies turn a blind eye to the whole industry.Fakku would have to jump through a lot of legal hoops to get doujins officially brought to the west. (negotiating with animation companies, western companies who hold the licenses etc.) And even then, the animation studio can just decide to not allow you to host their stuff after X amount of time.
Also, At least Fakku needs the consent of the author/circle before keeping doujins in the site.
As of right now, there is only 1 doujin that is free to read in fakku, and that's because the author gave the consent. Threadless a Kill la Kill doujin,

Well, looks like someone is trying to sound smart when they don't know anything about running this kind of business.
First and foremost, Scanlations are Illegal.
You can't sell legit stuff side by side with Illegal stuff, that's Hypocrisy.
Try asking 2008 Crunchy Roll when they were still allowing people to upload fansubs to the site despite having received a huge capital investment. 2009 is when they've cleared all the unlicensed stuff.
There's no running around the bush for that topic. Heck, some of us are still surprised that Wani Magazine gave Fakku Publishing Rights, while other companies would have just shut down fakku with more DMCAs.
Also about removing "Unlicensed Content", It just shows that Fakku is SERIOUS to everyone.
Why should fakku be worried about people abandoning fakku, when those people won't even pay a cent, when the mentality is still "I won't pay for Porn". Heck, you don't need to talk about FAkku, when was the last time you donated to a scanlation group? when was the last time you read through the credits page of a scanlation team responsible for your "free content"?
Also small library? 300 titles is huge for a Start Up Business. Do you expect to have 5000 titles ready? Get Real. You probably won't even read more than 10 each fap session, assuming you don't care about the content of each works.
They have a very limited team, getting 300 titles after 7 months is actually fast, as you get roughly 42 titles each month. Keep in mind that Fakku is SimulPublishing. You get something better than the ones they get in Japan (Being uncensored)

It doesn't go much further than that. There were plenty of other avenues to make this "legit", but Japanese copyright holders cling to insane, arcane methodology. So do tell, What are these "other legit avenues" that Fakku could have taken? Feel free to pour in your suggestion, fakku is all ears for every Realistic proposition.
Scanlations were removed because they were illegal. You can't run a legit selling business while still operating as a piracy site. Go Ask 2008 CrunchyRoll the experience of being legit while still uploading unlicensed fansubs.

That's the anger sentiment behind this. These artists would have NO western audience, at all, if it weren't for the scanlation scene. So would you import their manga and magazines instead? They still need to be paid. Heck, despite the knee-jerk reaction, people still doesn't give proper credit to scanlations even when they have to pay the cost of getting the raws, hiring page cleaners, translators and editors for each chapter.
How much money have you donated to a scanlation group?

My questions to Jacob is this: Sir, why 12.95? Is 5.00 or 10.00 a month too low? Why not a membership tier system? Did you run a focus group for your business plan?
It's 12.95 because of fees that the billing company issues. It was originally meant to be 10.00 a month but the company who processes payments take ~3.00 per transaction. And what would you even do for a membership tier? Restrict access to certain magazines? That would make the subscription look even less desirable

The "poor artist" shtick is a myth, they make more money than engineers. Hell a good number of them get over half a million USD per year on average. That doesn't make scanlations and Fakku's past suddenly legal.
Singers and actors also make millions but that doesn't automatically mean it's legal to download their songs and movies just because they're rich and won't feel losing money.

Does that help enough for you? I would have thought that me mentioning the fact that crunchyroll actually does what Fakku is trying to do, but successfully, might have been a good indication to look into them a bit. They are another site that handles licensed legal content.Yes, CR is the accepted argument for comparing to Fakku, but there's a huge difference on why Fakku can't have "free Licensed content" immediately. It doesn't have the same kind of capital backing that CR had at 2009, when CR decided when it would remove all unlicensed content from their site.
BUT, Comparing the anime section of CR is not exactly correct as CrunchyRoll Manga can only be accessed with Premium account (You can only read the 1st chapter of each manga if you use free account), which would be the "Free Model" that Fakku will adapt in the future.
Disclaimer, nothing I say here represents Fakku's future decision, it's only My opinion alone.
