Isn't the definition of insanity the process of doing one act over and over again and expecting a different result? Unless you are doing that then you aren't insane.
People in positions of authority will do two things when confronted. Either prove you wrong and tell you you are incompetent or punish you and tell you that you are an idiot if you are right, criticizing you and saying that you should know your place and basically "Respect your elders".
People in power earn their way their and since they feel that they have worked harder than everyone below them to get where they are it seems logical to them that no one has the right to stand up to them. They only tackle issues they know they can solve.
Let's look at parent/child example: A parent who has worked their whole life and lived let's say forty-five years has a lot of experience under their belt and fought to get where they are. For their fifteen year old son or daughter to pose a logical argument that trumps their knowledge or proves them wrong is threatening to them and the position of authority they hold as the child's parent. So they tell them they are wrong if they are and if the child is right or could possibly be right, it is passed off as talking back and may even punish the child.
For example. Let's take me and my father.
I'm a mechanical engineer and a gun enthusiast. I go to school full time to learn about the properties of materials and how they act in compression, tension, impact, and so forth. Since my father cannot accept that I know more about the materials that he works with on his handyman projects around the house he sighs and/or grimaces whenever I have something to say about how a material with perform or give him structural advice.
Same basic idea with guns. My father has shot more than I have and has been in the military [Air Force] and owns guns many guns. I spend many hundreds of hours of my free time researching guns, their history, why the gun was successful or not, how the rounds perform, how the shape affects their flight path, bullet drop, and bullet type. Coupled with my knowledge of the materials the bullets are made of and the materials that the bullets might be hitting it further extends my understanding of guns and bullet ballistics. Since I know so much about the subject that my father does not know, he passed of everything I say as either a wrong or a joke. All because it is beyond his understanding and being presented by me, his son who is around thirty years younger then he.
It's infuriating. I agree wholeheartedly. So no, do not conform. Do everything you can to make yourself heard, and prove that you are right, in a serious manner. Everything that will not get you killed.
