You hate making accounts...we hate having posts in the incorrect forum. And it looks like it's been reported already; there IS a search function on these forums.
I submitted an entry with the lofty goal of 'Fakku Writer' in mind. I will be upset if it is changed. Very upset. Enough to decimate two trillion molecules of air.

This is a hentai website, why even try to compare the attention given to the scan teams to a contest run by users on the forum? I wish my game got more updates, I'm sure TMS feels the same way. I don't understand why you think you/we deserve the same treatment as the scan teams? They are the reason fakku is popular and the reason anyone is even on these forums. I had to fight tooth and nail to get my game on the front page, it was also the 3rd running of the game, I would have killed to have it advertised the first time I ran it. Only 3 user run contests/games have ever made the front page. Don't look at it as unfair, consider it an amazing honor that it was given that chance in the first place.Good perspective. I've always just said to read and vote...never bitched about the lack of popularity of the writing forum. The contest was fun and the various entries were of good quality. It'll end soon enough and be forgotten about within a month.
But seriously? Only three user run contest/games ever made the front page? This contest has made it twice; for the first user poll and the final user poll. There should be no bitching from those who want the forum advertised.

- or if you sent us a gift basket. Look, just stop sending us stuff.
wow - thats some unbiased judges there - lesser mortals would have fallen here
Mint condition? Pose-able? CHANGEABLE OUTFITS? SABER LILY?
How did you all resist. Good lord.
However, given that the rules for the contest were only that the work must be original, < 1000 words, relate to FAKKU, and be Christmas/New Years themed...I'm not sure if a winner can be selected objectively. No criterion is posted that the judges can clearly refer to to say "This work is better than this one."
How would you compare a good comedy over a good drama? A poem over a short story? It is a VERY hard thing to do objectively. Slightly less so if a list of criteria was stated in the rules explaining what the judges were looking for, so the writers could submit entries with the criteria in mind and be judged on how well they met the criteria, but this wasn't done.
In the end, who really cares. To get angry at whatever supposed lack of objectivity there is in the judging (EDIT: I'm not, though I sound like it) is stupid. If you were truly upset at that, you shouldn't have submitted an entry in the first place, or remove your entry from the contest.
I got to read some insightful stories, and my favorite entry was RBZ's. I can't rhyme for shit, let alone with proper cadence.
I can understand a parent's desire to instill discipline into their children. Too many kids of my generation are growing up thinking that the world owes them everything. Our parents grew up thinking the exact opposite and worked their butts off, and that's why my generation gets to live so comfortably.
Parents should teach their kids how to have a good work ethic, how to respect other people, etc. What they shouldn't do is take away all sense of individuality their child has and make them work such insane hours that they are deprived of the opportunity to TALK TO OTHER PEOPLE. A straight-A student who can't make eye contact with anyone they talk to and are unable to express their ideas to others is worthless.

My opinion is that humans are intrinsically nothing. They are influenced by those around them and what they learn on their own. I liked a line from Harry Potter...I don't know what book it was. But he said something along the lines of: "If you want to know what a man is really like, see how he treats his inferiors, not his equals."
I don't even know how one would test this premise, though I can offer a somewhat similar example. Kids at a day-care who were around other kids of various nationalities grew up without knowing what racism was. Racism was a foreign concept to them--so much so that they couldn't even comprehend it.

Fixed. Note how some of those conflict. A further representation of how impossible it is to appease impossible parents. How does this not fall under child abuse.
K-On is well represented, as expected.
I'm surprised to see Kuroneko so low. She was my most memorable 2010 character by a good margin. That margin would have been even bigger if not for Ayatsuji Tsukasa...who didn't even make the list. Heck, not a single girl did from Amagami, and that lasted half of 2010. Sheesh.
Heck, I'd throw Usui Takumi in there SOMEWHERE. This list is ridiculous.
EDIT: What disappoints me the most is not only did Yui win...she won in a LANDSLIDE. She received 320 votes to Azusa's 183, and from what few episodes I saw of K-On...Azusa was far, FAR more enjoyable a character than Yui. Heck, that sensei of theirs was better than Yui. Sheesh.

Those in the science fields are the furthest thing from lazy on the planet. They love what they do, they love learning, and they will continue to push the boundaries of physics.
Technology is moving at an incredible rate. You need to only compare the size of a bit in the 1980s to what it is now. The size fell two orders of magnitude in a ten-year span (floppy disk to cd-rom) and fell yet another magnitude several years later (cd-rom to ultraviolet light disk). This is nothing short of an incredible pace.
I'm an aerospace undergrad, so I'll say a bit on the future of that. All aircraft in general are being made with the intent to fly them unmanned. The Lockheed F-35 is being treated as the last of the manned fighters. Unmanned commercial jets have been considered, but public opinion by a wide margin wants a pilot to fly them from A to B.
What technology better do is find an alternative fuel source. Airliners are requiring that planes fly with as high a fuel efficiency rate as possible. Oil supplies are dwindling. It's a real problem that's going to create serious issues if we're not ready for it in the next 20-30 years.
Technology is going to keep improving whether people want it or not. I'm excited to see what the human mind can come up with. Materials are going to get smarter, data will be transferred faster.

We enjoy it because when performing it, our brains produce dopamine and several endorphins, which tells us to enjoy it.
What triggers our brain to produce those chemicals? I haven't the faintest idea. Suppose I'll take a stab at it all the same.
Humans are animals. An animal's two greatest instincts are survival and reproduction, in that order. Breathing feels good after holding your breath for awhile because your body wants you to keep breathing. Sex feels good because your body is telling you reproducing to keep the species alive is a good thing.
Regarding regular activities that don't fall under any animalistic instincts...this is where it gets difficult. I can tie why we enjoy winning contests to sex again...males fought each other for the right to mate with a specific female.
I can't answer, for example, why I enjoy looking at the sun set in the horizon where it seems to fade into the ocean. It's a beautiful sight, but why I find it beautiful is basically the same question as why I enjoy it, and I have no answer.

There was a decent movie on this topic...Bicentennial Man. Although the movie focused on should AIs be recognized as humans.
Refer to Chobits for an interesting take on the topic in the 2D world. Chii is adorable, so watch it anyways.
It's a simple argument to make it relevant to the topic at hand:
All humans are born with rights.
AIs are humans (the movie's premise)
AIs are born with rights. (modus ponens)
Given what I know of programming...I don't see how any AI can ever be treated as a human. A similar argument I've studied in philosophy is 'Should animals have the same rights as humans?'
The main point there was that animals do not have 'sentience', or an understanding of who they are, what they are (a decent example is that an animal would not recognize itself in the mirror, where a human would). Problems with that are obvious when you consider infants and the mentally disabled.
I thought about an AI needing to be aware of its surroundings, but even something as simple as a sensor can do that.
So my answer is...no. Why? Because an AI can only be aware of its lack of rights if it is programmed to be aware of it. I understand that babies and the mentally disabled fall into this again, which really makes my reason why being that AIs aren't human. To be logically consistent, this means I do not believe animals have rights, but I want them to. I'm heavily conflicted on the issue, and can't remember too much of what I got out of those philosophy classes. Shame.

I am Korean. I moved to the states when I was five, and my folks are pretty mellow people. I had restrictions on how long I could play video games, but that was it. It didn't bother me because I enjoyed going outdoors more as a child.
The Asian Way of Raising Kids works. If you destroy a child's individuality before it ever develop and tell them to study, play the piano (I mean I enjoy it NOW, but as a kid it was bloody miserable), and whatnot for hours a day everyday...they'll get good at it. Humans are creatures of habit, and if we do something (with or without our consent) for hundreds and thousands of repetitions, it'll stick.
However, when I say it 'works', I mean it works in terms of what the parents will want. The child will GET straight A's, and KNOW how to play the piano. They will not EARN straight A's or LEARN how to play the piano.
And how well will they do once they're off to college and have to part with crazy mom? They'll rebel like a son of a bitch, get ravenously drunk and off themselves in the first week and mom will wonder what she did wrong.
You also teach your child to submit to every authority figure they ever encounter.
Summary (for those who didn't read because it is obviously tl;dr): The Asian Way of Raising Kids accomplishes what the parents want but greatly hinders how well the child will integrate into society. The child will have deplorable social skills which will prevent them from getting a job, which is the point of straight A's, no?

I can't believe I'm replying to this...haha. It's fun though.
Let's go with...Tegumi and Ziggy. Tegumi, because referring to an earlier post, living near the point of death sounds like a plan in my otherwise boring life.
Ziggy...I don't know...the name's cute and she can edit. Editing skills are hot.
...Tegumi doesn't frequent IB right? I don't have to hire bodyguards, right?

There are just eight works to judge, and if you've voted before, odds are that you've already read at least two of them.
It would be nice to get a lot of votes so we can really measure who's work(s) was the most enjoyed.
Please make an honest vote, as the results do matter to those who submitted their works.
