I may have to disagree with you on that one. I grew up on arcade games and old-school platformers. If you couldn't do what they asked of you in a set amount of lives, then you need to go back and do it all again. It's called challenge. Players don't need their hand held all the way to the ending of the game. They need to get better and overcome whatever hurdle comes their way.
Have you played "Lost Odysey"??? If not so, then you'll now what I'm talking about.
Your disagreement only applies only in platform games, try an RPG with fixtation save points or such...
Buddy, I've played a few other games where you can only save at certain locations. It's been around for a while. A part of the game then becomes planning your save points before going out to complete quests and the like. Take for example, Dead Rising. You only get one save slot in that game and if you just found out that you messed up somewhere in the game, you gotta load from the last time you saved, costing you some time wasted by carelessness or maybe even requiring you to restart the entire game from the begining if you're trying for the true ending but messed up badly enough with your time management. Stuff like that is usually added to increase the overall challenge of the game which is, unfortunately, commonly thought to be bad game design by frustrated players. However, at least Dead Rising manages to evade any scorn from players as any character progression previously made is kept when you start a new game.

I said fuck it and bought em all. :3Spoken like a true gamer. I plan to buy Saints Row The Third on day one. After that, I want to pick up Arkham City and then Skyrim with my next consecutive paychecks. I may not be able to afford them all at once, but that's why people make budgets for themselves.

Try playing Rush in Battlefield 3 when your entire squad would rather go sniping than help you defend the MCOM station, which is currently under siege by at least a dozen enemy soldiers and an amtrac.
Reason why I didnt get Battlefield 3. Well it's mostly that it didnt catch on to me. I was a Counter Strike player as I grew up. I found COD closer to it. Also, if its online with my friends, I gotz Black Ops Zombies for that. Since we all have different tastes for online multiplayer. SOme are BF3 fanatics while some are COD and some hang on to Halo.
I agree with you on that. Without any teamwork, Battlefield 3 can also become one of the most frustrating multiplayer experiences out there. I don't have anything against COD or Halo, it's just that they don't seem to push teamwork nearly as much as Battlefield does, which just makes the latter even more frustrating when people still choose to ignore their team regardless.
As you could probably guess, I take the game's community into account for online multiplayer. I used to love playing AvP until it got flooded by little kids and all my college level comrades bailed on it. Similarly, Halo and COD, while great games in their own right, have a bad history of attracting a lot of assholes and annoying players in general.

If you're a fairly sneaky player, you could always pick up a PDW or slap an ACOG onto a semiauto rifle to convert it to a decent battle rifle. And, as I've mentioned in my previous post, tag as many enemies as humanly possible. Sure, it's only worth 10 points if your team kills any enemy that you've tagged, but that builds up after a while and is extremely helpful. I'm still waiting for my SOFLAM to become a viable gadget. Thing looks like it'll be useful, but until more people get guided missiles on their vehicles or unlock the javelin, it's going to be rather useless, if not a decent way to keep enemy pilots on their toes.

I don't mind snipers nearly as much as I did in COD. At least the bullet-drop makes cold-bore shots harder to pull off. Also, Battlefield 3 is NOT a game where you want to stay stationary in, unless your team is somewhat competent and can keep enemies from getting past the frontline. Even then, enemy snipers and aircraft are still a constant threat.
I rarely snipe, but I do use the M39 EMR with either a 4x scope or IR/thermal. It makes spotting and killing enemies at medium distance a breeze. I also don't understand why so few people spot enemies. Personally, I find it one of the most helpful things a teammate can do, next to reviving others and passing out ammo. Even then, those too seem to be few and far between.
Just saw The Thing (2011) for $1.25 at my local dollar saver theater. I'd give it an 7/10. I would've preferred that they used more puppets and physical effects over CG, but at least the monster design was decent and the gore plentiful. I also liked how certain events lead up to the original John Carpenter movie. However, there are still a few things that were left open ended. Also, there seemed to be more burnt up remains of both the monster and it's victims produced in this movie than there were that were discovered by the Americans in the original movie. It seemed odd to me that they redesigned the alien ship so heavily. Sure, now it looks larger and more impressive, but now it doesn't match up at all with what was found in the original movie.
I also felt that most of the rather abundant cast of characters were largely forgetable. If fact, I can hardly even recall a single character's name in the movie. Only exception may have been Lars, but that was only because I flagged him as the only potential survivor of the group simply because he doesn't speak English, which means he was most likely to be one of the two men that went to the American base in the original movie and then got shot. I merely identified the others by certain basic characteristics, such as the obvious heroine, norwegian chick, guy with glasses, and the black dude. With that said, if I were to name any real fault with this movie, it would be that it can get rather easy to predict.

Cant wait for this movie, seriously hope they don't fuck it up somehow...Since Joss Whedon's directing this movie, I have some confidence in this being a great popcorn flick. It may not be better than the new Batman movie, but it looks to be damn sure more entertaining.

Bought MW2, never once played the campaign. I got it for the multiplayer. Same reason Im getting MW3.I have a similar view with Yahtzee on this topic. Video games that rely heavily on multiplayer have a very shaky platform to stand on, depending on the gamer's tastes anyway. See, if I'm not playing with my friends, then I hardly ever touch the multiplayer in a lot of the games I own. This is largely due to the fact that people are generally assholes in online multiplayer. This is especially true in COD and Halo. Sure, you'll find somebody cool every once in a while, but they're few and far between. There's also the near complete lack of teamwork when playing with strangers as they would all rather go lone wolf than help out their struggling teammates. Try playing Rush in Battlefield 3 when your entire squad would rather go sniping than help you defend the MCOM station, which is currently under siege by at least a dozen enemy soldiers and an amtrac.

You really should have posted this inside the Battlefield 3 topic instead of making a new one, which is just going to be merged into the aforementioned thread in a matter of minutes anyway.

Sig's from a movie called Planet Terror, from the Grindhouse double feature with Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez each directing a different movie. Planet Terror was Rodriguez's half, Tarantino did a flick called Death Proof. Both are awesome movies and are definitely worth watching.

I already read the plot on kotaku. I'm not gonna waste my money on this game.Well, im not gonna lecture you or anything, but, i mean, isn the plot of EVERY game kinda like..... similar to each other??
I'm not skipping the game because the plot is similar to another game that I've played in the past. In fact, MW3's plot is actaully quite different. That said, the plot is also so goddamned retarded that I really have absolutely no reason to spend money to play the game. I feel I should also note that I have no interest in the multiplayer as Battlefield 3 is currently scratching that itch and Saints Row 3 is just a couple of weeks away, and is sure to soak up a LOT of my time in the future.

Honestly I've refrained from giving my opinion on the matter on the count of many people would be quite upset with my reaction, but whatever. I am sick-and-tired of hearing about Steve Jobs. He was just a man. He wasn't a god, dammit. He was no more impressive than many other computer technicians out there, he only gets more recognition because he was a spokesperson, a face, rather than just the man in the back dabbling with his devices. The fact that so many people seem to mourn the loss of Jobs, but virtually ignore the death of Ritchie sickens me. Ritchie was more important to the industry in its current setting than Jobs ever was.
I mean, Hell, I get it. He was an inspiring individual, but I've seen people talk less about the deaths of ex-Presidents than what I still see and hear about Jobs on the internet and on the news.
See, one thing a lot of people don't realize is that Jobs didn't 'make' the computers that Apple put out. He just pushed the techies to make it the way he invisioned it (berating them as he did so), then he sold it to the masses. Because of this, I still believe that Woz was the most crucial part of Apple computers. He was the co-founder of Apple beside Jobs and he even singlehandedly built the Apple 1 and 2 computers. What sickens me is that despite all that, a lot of people who claim to be Apple enthusiasts don't know about him simply because he's no longer working with the company.

I remember that site. Wasn't that attacked by Anonymous a couple of times?
Honestly though, I don't get how people can get so far gone into religion like that. Sure, it's mostly likely due in part by their surrounding environment. It's just that I don't get how people can ignore their base instincts and own rationality like that and blindly follow what some old book says. Yeah, the bible is a good book to memorize as there are plenty of stories that are worth knowing and that may serve as something of a moral compass. But at the same time, it's damn sure not something you want to follow to the letter as some horrible shit also happens in the book for little to no reason other than 'God demanded it happened' or something along that nature.
Also, on the topic of those people picketing against the men and women of our military. All I can say about that is fuck them. I've met some really great people while living overseas. A few of which were actually wounded in combat and had the purple hearts (and scars) to prove it. These people even had family they were fighting for. Hell, one woman was expecting a child when I met her. These soldiers are out there fighting for what they believe in, hoping to make the world better for the ones they love. So for those Westboro people to say that God hates them, just for going to war. Well, again, fuck them. It makes me wonder what they think about the fucking Crusades as a LOT of people at that time were killed and sometimes horribly tortured solely because of the 'will of God'. Anyway, I'm going to stop ranting and go back to whatever it was I was doing before posting this.
Here's something new to me. Earlier tonight when I was playing with my friends on Rush, I actually killed an enemy attack chopper with an AT mine. How do you ask? Well, early into the match, a few of my friends and I (as 2 engies and 2 support) ran down to the beachhead to place as many mines down as possible before the enemy amtracks could reach the shore. While I was placing my 3rd set of mines, an enemy attack chopper got shot down by a friendly IGLA, causing the chopper to land on one of my mines, resulting in me gaining the actual kills for both the vehicle and the pilot.
Edit: While we're on the subject of helicopters, why is it that people always complain about how hard they are to drive? Sure, they take some getting used to, but at least there's actually a way to practice flying a chopper outside of multiplayer. Just play co-op with a friend and spend a few minutes to get adjusted with how the helicopter handles. It also helps to change your controls to a setting that you find easier to work with.
