Yet Another Thread About Rep
1
I'm seriously sick and tired of abuse of the Rep system these days. For the past year and beyond, I've always been a supporter for the abolishing of the Rep system as a whole, but I can see that's not going to happen any time soon. So here's a new proposal. How about disabling Rep in Random and IB?
None of you Admins/Mods should disagree that Reputation should be a demonstration of how a user contributes to this community. Now I want to ask this. How the heck can you contribute to the community through useless chattering in these sections? Sure, IB and Random are fun, and I visit daily, but Rep seriously needs to be disabled there.
I don't see any room at all for a counter-argument. SakuraHana uses the exact same idea and things are working perfectly well with no rep drama. Nihonomaru simply kills all your reps when you rep something that isn't a contribution. FAKKU needs to do the same.
To conclude, I'm going to leave this here.

P.S. This suggestion disregards Nosebleed (Part of IB). That sub-forum deserves to have Rep turned on.

Do i need to explain why to remove the rep system on IB?No, you don't. I didn't explain it in the thread because you have to be blind to not see why Rep is not needed in there.

I just want a rule where it says "Threads asking for +/- rep will be deleted on sight".That's not enough. Those threads are the least of the problems. We need to attack the core of the issues, not just scratch the surface.

Hmm... I think this has been said about a dozen times that no one wants the rep anymore. I actually got 2 rep from saying it was my fakku anniversary and then I lost both rep lol. Rep has lost it's actual meaning now and should just be rid of permanently.

Meh, more of this topic...
I thought we got over this already.
all drama stems from -rep anyways.

I'm more against the idea of getting rid of it completely in those sections, so why not make it so that you can only rep things in IB/Random once a week/month?
Ex1.
+rep someone in Writing & Lemons
next day, you can +/- rep anything, still
Ex2.
-rep someone in Random
next day, you can +/- rep anything that isn't in IB/Random
next week, you can +/- rep anything.
Ex3.
-rep someone in IB
next day, +/- rep anything except IB/Random
next month, +/- rep anything.
It'll really make people wonder if their +/- rep is worth it. Also, if they just derep someone because they don't like them, then they can just find any post they make and derep them for it.

Making it impossible to +/- rep someone in a subsection will only deter those who just don't care at all or have amazingly short attention spans. For example if say Cero ever makes another comic for his thread in Random I'm going to +rep him. I don't care if I can't do it in Random, I'll just find a post he's made in another section. I can assure you that this works for people who like to -rep as well since I myself am still receiving -rep for no friggin reason on amazingly old posts.
Yes, the rep system is broken. No, half assed solutions won't fix the problem, they'll just make it worse. The only good options are to just turn rep off entirely or to actually have a (or multiple) staff members monitor or at least listen to and fix abuses of the system. Really how hard would it be to appoint someone as "rep fixer" and give them unlimited rep giving/taking points and have them respond sometime within a week to everyone's rep complaints? Anyone who manages to do the job once a month would probably suffice, so the Admins wouldn't even have to pick someone who even shows up daily. (Bonus incentive for Jacob: Then you wouldn't have to listen to people's complaints about rep...well aside from how that person did their job.)

You guys sure don't get tired of whining...
Besides, didnt Jacob said something to the effect of him banning anyone who continued complaining about reps?
And no, no everyone wants the rep gone, only whiners like you people. I for one like it how it is. I really think is not the rep system that is broken, but you people that misunderstand it. IIRC there was never a rule about which cases were acceptable for rep giving, in which werent. As long as you dont abuse the system (give rep to yourself in some way) all goes.
So if I just dont like a suggestion you made, I -rep you. (no, it wasnt me, im just using that as an example)

I hardly see how offering a suggestion to improve our community is anything to be ashamed of. Also, while it's true there are no set rules on how to use Rep, drama spans from Rep as Mibu says. That's probably due to this majority of FAKKU being as immature as they are. However these people mostly only hang out in IB anyway so by disabling Rep there, the drama can be taken care of.

Well luckily for you there isn't anyone abusing the system in that way right now. Jake dealt the punishments not so long ago.

Impy, I disagree with your point about me losing rep in IB because said person is obviously dedicated enough to find another post of mine somewhere else. I do however concede the point about my suggestion having been made before and being ignored. I still feel it was worth mentioning it though since at least people will be aware that we know what would solve the problem if only we could convince the Admins to actually do it.

You should know how many FAKKU members are like that.

I can't say I'm to familiar with the rep system and the problems in the past, since I'm still pretty new here. However couldn't a raise of posts when you can use rep be a solution, now it's 15? i think. How about 100 posts, 200 or even Elite status 500 posts to be able to rep.

What they could do is implement a rep restrictor system.
Say you -rep/+rep a user, with the restrictor system you are unable to rep/+rep to that said user again until you have repped a number of other different users. This stops "rep harassment"
Actually just get rid of rep all together, it was much more enjoyable to be on the forums without it.

What exactly is the "proper" use of a minus rep?
As for the idea, fuck that shit. I'll leave it at that.

As I have said before countless times, eliminate the rep system an use one of those "thanks" systems as in other forums. There is no practical reason to -rep somebody other than to show how immature you are and how you have such a low tolerance for others. If they post something utterly worthless then report them; rep is just a number and won't have the slightest effect on what a user does
