Kyoto Animation updated its website for Nagomu Torii's KyÅkai no Kanata (Beyond the Boundary) light novel series on Wednesday to reveal that an anime adaptation is in the works.
The dark fantasy follows a high school sophomore named Akihito Kanbara. Although the boy appears human, he is half yÅmu and invulnerable to wounds because he can heal quickly. One day, Akihito meets freshman Mirai Kuriyama when it seems she is about to jump from the school rooftop. Mirai is isolated because of her ability to manipulate blood, which is unique even among members of the spirit world. Disturbing events begin to unfold after Akihito saves Mirai.
KyÅkai no Kanata received an honorable mention in the novel category of the Kyoto Animation Award program in 2011. The studio released the first volume last year, and the second volume will ship on Monday.

This.
I crossed out the last part because I'm not really all that into action/fantasy anime and it seems to be one.

Looks like it's going to be a bit of a dark series, which I'm hoping it will be good considering this is KyoAni. The megane girl looks cute though.

As Simon wrote in said chat. The two trailers are very different.
The first trailer isn't very Kyoani like at all; with action and monstrous creatures. While the other trailer is more traditional moeblob Kyoani. It will be interesting to see how they fit together. I hope Kyoani can combine them in a smooth natural way and not make it seem forced and greasy.

Episode 1:
Good Start, I don't see any problems. I love that Chihara Minori is in this. I just hope this is a sign that KyoAni can actually give us more balanced anime focus.

This is something I've been waiting years for... and no, it isn't the series. For the first time Ishidate Taichi is working as a full-fledged director for the entire length of production. I loved Taichi's work in After Story, Hyouka and Kanon; to top it all off he was also the assistant director for Nichijou. I expect glorious things from this man. Even better, Tsuruoka Yota is on sound, he's been in my good book since Appleseed and won my heart with Afro Samurai.
