A special stage event at the Dengeki 20th Anniversary Festival announced that production on the second season of A Certain Scientific Railgun television anime series has been green-lit. The title of the second season is Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S (A Certain Scientific Railgun S).
The story and staff of the second season will be confirmed in the December issue of ASCII Media Works' Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh magazine on October 27.
This is one of the series in my backlog to watch. I own and have read the first volume of the manga and really enjoyed it so I'll definitely watch the first season before this one comes out, it looks really good and I know it's really popular.
My body is ready.

Woohoo xD thanks for the info!
Something to look forward to then, not the best anime I ever seen, but still pretty damn good.

So we are getting an Index Season 3 and a Railgun Season 2 along with a movie? This will be interesting, I cant wait for it.

I hope the series is not going to be another Yuri fest and fillers like the 1st season. I dropped it halfway and just read the manga instead.

I was honestly expecting the 1st season to touch the "Sisters Arc" after the "AIM burst Arc"... >_>
but we get fillers.
All I want to see is "Shizuri Mugino" and her team "ITEM".
But looking at the progress of the manga I don't think it will reach "Misaki Shokuhou", since that Arc isn't done yet.

the usage of comic relief based fanservice (e.g. Kuroko's behaviour towards Mikoto), washes away what little development had gone before. While the characters are engaging enough in their own way, the show could have done with putting more effort into the plot and characters, and less into making money from the hormone crazed masses.

Excited that season 2 is coming out. My thoughts are mostly what Kaimax said, Kuroko's comic relief was too frequent in season one

Do I need to watch Index before Railgun? Railgun is just like a side-story, right? It's really confusing me.

If I remember correctly, I think it was that Railgun's events were taking place during the same time as Index... or something like that.

Here's a timeline of events in the Index/Railgun universe.
Railgun season 1 covered
Level Upper Arc (July 16 to 24 of current year)
Big Spider Arc (started and ended early August of current year)
Poltergeist Arc (ended August 9 of current year)

This seems interesting. I never finished the anime of Railgun but I read the manga. Maybe I'll start on Index too. I haven't seen any of it.

I had a hard time chugging through railgun. Kuroko...kept me up at night and not in a good way... I'll watch it just to say that I did.

Guessing the manga's half is better than the anime adaptation

There's that, but for me, it's the 2 filler arcs and the yuri fest by Kuroko that made me drop halfway. Well, that's just me, if you want to watch it completely it's up to you.
You won't lose anything from dropping it halfway. At least the "Poltergeist Arc" is "watchable" since it's tied to the 1st arc of Railgun and giving it a more "happy conclusion".
