80s/90s Anime discussion thread

Alright, let's have a retro thread. I'm sure you may have at the very least one favorite oldie.
I for one cannot get enough of these. I'm not one of those that sperges over the "current state of anime" or whatever like the people in 4chan, but I do love the old styles.
I'll start this thread off with a classic: Bubblegum Crisis.
I really loved this one as a kid and with every rewatch it gets better (and it's also fun dissecting inconsistencies as well as instances of QUALITY).
The music is worth it (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kqlZn_M4qQ), as well as this glorious fucker.

One of my first anime series was Rurouni Kenshin. I always feel that series will never die-- I mean, look, it's 2014 and we're getting live action movies out of it still. It's always going to be one of my favorites.

recently finished Now and Then, Here and There.I liked it.
That has to be one of the darkest animated works I've ever seen. But it was great how they balanced everything in the end and didn't just delve in despair/depression/darkness.

If we're talking oldschool I pretty much have to go with the stuff that used to air on Toonami and Adult Swim on cartoon network. Dragon Ball Z, Gundam Wing, Outlaw Star, Tenchi Muyo. That was the shit that got me into anime in the first place really.

I was born in 93, so does Pokemon Count? It's from late 90s, right? So sure. As long as it is 2000 and backwards, it's perfect.
Might make a thread for early 2000s stuff later on if this one kicks off.

Not really much of a discussion rather than listing off animes from 80s/90s that we've watched. For me that was the golden Super Robot age(or really mechas in general); Getter Robo, Mazinger Z, Tekkaman and the Braves to list a few from the time that have creeped their way back and earned a permanent place in my hard drive.

what was everyone's source of anime back then? besides the early toonami, I rcall occasionally catching sci-fy's saturday morning anime and programs from upn and Fox. other than that, I would rent anime from block busters and randomly caught the end of some anime movies.

The more "classy" titles like Bubblegum Crisis and Wanna-Be's were released like that. It was only much later when they were aired on Sci-Fi.
And damn I miss Toonami. And I mean the old Toonami.

This thread. Ohmygodyes.
City Hunter
Does anyone else remember this show? I watched it originally as a Chinese dub on tape. Holycrap I'm old. But it was probably the first show that got me into ecchi and... mokkori~ I've rewatched it recently, and damn, its still got it.
Magic Knights Rayearth
Another oldie that was amazing. There was so much yuri tension in this, it was just faaaaaab.
Discuss with meee? <33

Never watch City Hunter (it's still in my backlorg) but if there's one awesome oldie show, that's Rayearth. Fuckdamn, it's fucking awesome.
Have you watched the Iczer series? Same director, Toshiki Hirano. And they're just as awesome.
All dat delicious fanservice and shading and fights.

Iczelion gets too much flak but in all honesty, it's fucking awesome.
The soundtrack alone makes it worth it, the armors are awesome, Hirano chicks, god-tier oldschool ecchi...what more can you ask for?
