Ending sucks! Blasphemy! And yeah, I still don't really get that, I could guess, but I wouldn't be sure.

I didn't understand this anime. I get the link between the past and present, but what was the point of the story? why did we learn about these characters? where is the conclusion?
Spoiler:
If the only person who had a semi-happy ending was mizu's mom, what the hell did I watch this for? to see a side character have an epiphany? and like other people posted "Crow? Wtf?" This series really disappointed me, because it never came together. So I guess that some other girl is going to get wings or the spirit of the last winged girl and die next? oh and this time no magical puppet dude will be there to try to help. Not like he actually did keep anyone from dieing though. I'm mostly upset because I liked watching it and all the middle story, but the ending was weak

It was strange, but Misuzu and Yukito were reincarnated as the children at the beach that you see from the very beginning so they are able to live their lives together, and pretty much everyone else lived their lives, for better or worse, as they did before Yukito reached the town.

The only thing that bothers me is why is it all looping. When we finally understand who the kids on the beach are we still see Yukito and Misuzu in their previous incarnations. I know in Buddhist legend it is possible to be incarnated in two forms at once, but that was really unnecessary and just made it even more confusing.

Air definitely suffered from being too short. I loved the series, but I still consider it Key's weakest work because not only was the story too twisted and maybe even convoluted for the few episodes they gave us, but it wasn't enough to develop and emotional attachment to the characters (except maybe Misuzu.)


Edit: Guess I should spoil that, though I imagine anyone who wanted to see the series already has. *shrugs*

I'm assuming that is part of the Buddhist believe in multiple reincarnations or some believe that the crow was rather Ryuya and it sensed Kanna spirit and wanted to watch out for her, and that when it mentioned it was going to fly to the sky it was actually going to look for Kanna's spirit *shrugs*. We don't KNOW that the boy and girl are those two, but you get the sense they are at the end of episode twelve. However, I thought the cycle was suppose to have ended once Yukito sacrified himself, combined with her death it was supposed to have broken the curse so when those two are once again reincarnated (this time as the boy and girl) they could live happily together till the end of their days. That's also reinforced by the fact that Haruko didn't die soon after Misuzu died in her arms. I would definitely think the kids know because of the boys speech when he notices Yukito and Misuzu sitting on the wall overlooking the beach.

It definitely leaves a lot up to interpretation. I know there is an actual nice little debate about it on MAL: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=17991

Meh, the visual novel was much better. Plus it was +18 plus like all of Key's work *wink wink*

I really like this anime it was cute and was a nice break from school yard romances and ninjas, highly recommended

Yep, I'm late, but I did just now finish the series, and here is my speculation on several items:

[spoil]Where to start... Ok, the crow, I didn't get, but a few things I can piece together (yes I know Clannad was after Air, but bear with me), In Clannad, ~After stories~ it turns out Tomoya was the robot, but he couldn't build or do anything but spectate this girl, and Yukito was eventually reincarnated as the crow with a somewhat similar role.

The "looping" as I saw it referred to as, made me pissed to, but it makes sense when at the beginning and end the lady says the story will continue forever without end, until the last child. A.D.D. MOMENT: And how all the winged girls wanted to just do something fun like go to the beach and how all Yukito had to do was make Misuzu smile and stay by her side; anyway, all the memories will be passed down from child to child, to the very last UNTIL THE LAST MEMORY IS FULL OF NOTHING BUT HAPPINESS.. <---- That I believe is THE BIGGEST POINT, especially in other Key films, like Clannad with the Hikari and Angel Beats!

The two children at the end, I had a theory, and it was Yukitos mom, since she promised to return, but thinking about it, I saw another post, and it was Yukito and Misuzu, interesting thought, and may as well be true, even more so now because the sequence begins with the "listen here my child..." and the boy on the beach snaps to and "remembers it from a long time ago".

It was sad/funny when Misuzu kept falling over, even more sad so when you figure out why.

I had another thought, but it slipped, I'll edit it back later.

Heres my along waited edit...
So, I started Kanon (the 24 ep. version) a little while back and just figured out that Yuichi Aizawa's child voice (for English dubs) is the same as the little boy's voice at the very end of Air, also, if you look closely, there hair color is pretty close and FINALLY, the girl he is hanging out with on the beach has the same hair color (and sounds like) Nayuki Minase... Interesting, don't know if this has anything to do with either story, but it may just be a cross over, as the sloth from Air is in Kanon as well.
