I got hooked on animu when I first saw Elfen Lied, followed by 2x2 Shinobuden...
The westernized animu had NOTHING on those two...

Cyborg 009 & Blue Noah (Uchuu Kuubo Blue Noah) & Starzinger
these series aired 79-80 , but I saw them dubbed in Swedish when I was about 5 or 6 this would be around 87-88.
There was also this show about some caveman or something hard remember it was so long ago =p

My first ones I watched were on late night Adult Swim or Toonami (Evangelion, Rurouni Kenshin, Gundam Wing, etc.) but the one that really got me into watching anime regularly was Clannad. My friend told me to watch it online and then I just got sucked in.

As a kid I used to watch the ones everyone was watching (DBZ, Pokémon, et al), then I pretty much stopped liking anime, then I actually began to DISlike it.
Later on, this and that happened, and I got into Doraemon, followed closely by Lucky Star. They were guilty pleasures at first, until I started getting into more series, then I just said "fuck it, I'm an anime fan now" and the rest is history.
Technically Doraemon was my "gateway drug", but I'd say it was Lucky Star that actually pushed me over the edge, so I give the credit to LS.

Tenshi na Konamaiki is the series that got me into anime.
PS. This series is really old but I'm not,I'm only 20.

The first anime I ever watched was Tenchi Muyo. I don't know why that show stuck out so much, but I absolutely loved it and have loved anime ever since.
I've gone back and rewatched it since then and truth be told, it's not nearly as good as I remembered it being and not nearly as good as just about any more recent anime out there. Don't get me wrong, it's a good show, there's just so many better shows (anime) out there. However, it'll always be special to me and I'm actually grateful for Tenchi because I may not have ever got into anime without it.

Since then I've started to love anime, especially Hayao Miyazaki's works.
Then, as I grew older, Dragon Ball, Gundam and such got me into others, and where i am now.

I watched pokémon when I was little, but the one who really got me into anime was princess princess.
After watching that anime, I began watching others.

Death Note is not too "Japanese" to put people off (if you get what I mean). Most of my friends got into anime that way.
(I tried to get another one of my friends to watch "Code Geass" and she was put off straight away. However, she found Death Note fine...)

I gotta go with Outlaw Star on this one. I have to give it to Toonami and Adult Swim back in the day when it was really good.
