the only other person in my family who watches anime is my brother.

though I think i caught my dad watching Hentai once.

My mother once found the cover of one of my anime dvds, and it had a nearly naked female character on it.

And then there was the one time I was watching an anime, and a sex scene came on.

that was awkward.

Not sure how I would react to my mother watching Ikkitousen ...... But otherwise, I think it's perfectly fine.

I guess I will probably still be watching animes when I am her age so I guess it's really no big deal (though I do hope by then technology would have improved enough for a more "thorough" experience).

While my own mother has no interest in animes (she seems kind of repulsed by the idea for some reason), she does quite like cartoons like The Simpsons and (God forbid) South Park.

I wouldn't say it was odd, anyway. There are so many good series' with drama, action, emotion, death...they can offer as much or more as a good TV series. Aside from the little cliches that can make it seem odd, I think a lot more people would like anime if it was made in the English language. If you sat someone down to watch something like Code Geass with decent English voice acting, say with some Hollywood names, I think you could break down the 'animation is for kids' barrier pretty easily. The main problem is that a lot of people have difficulty with, or just don't like things subbed with Japanese audio. Keeping up with the words and the action separately isn't most people's idea of a good time watching TV; your mum is just one of those, like 'us', who's been exposed to decent anime and doesn't mind that.

I got my father into anime and manga. I used to watch the stuff all the time with my best friend when we were young. One day he sat down and watched it with us (stuff like Noir, Hellsing, etc) and now I download the stuff and we watch together when he has the time. He reads Oishinbo, Eagle: The Making of an Asian-American President, and some of the off beat stuff...those kind of manga. Whenever I go to cons with my friends he even chips in some money for figures that he likes/requests.

I would love it if my parents were into anime, but sadly they are not.

They are missing the other great ecchi animes. LOL!

I wish my parents are like that too or even just my siblings.
