Paying for Manga.
Do you buy manga?

So I must ask my fellow fakkuza do you buy any manga, or do you only read scanlations? Maybe, perhaps you (like me) do a mixture of the two. Explain.

I buy my manga. Despite finding many manga online, I often won't read them onscreen and prefer to buy them.
Most of my doujin are downloaded.

I buy manga and read scanlations. I haven't bought any doujinshi, but if I were to buy some, they'd have to be translated.

I've read the scanlations, but if they sell it, I would probably buy it. It's for collection maybe.

Unlike anime, actually having a manga in your hands is a much better feeling than scanlations... but I still read them. Plus, I gotta give support to the mangaka.

I buy manga if I can find what I'm looking for, otherwise I read scanlations. I have the entire Sailor Moon manga from Classic to Stars on my hard drive because they've been out of print for a few years now, and that's most of my scanlation collection right there.

If the manga is available in english, I buy it. I definitely don't want to see the manga industry dying since the anime companies are already going into a shithole from so much pirating. If you like something, I see no reason why you wouldn't want to support it. I have a pretty large manga collection but there's still so much more I want despite the fact I run out of money and room. Often times I end up buying duplicates because I forget what I already have.. If something isn't available in english though, I'll read scanlations.

Store bought manga, defintely, even though I run out of money quite often. I usually read scanlations when there's no english version yet or if I can't get it here in NZ for whatever reason. Dang Borders, it takes them so long to restock shelves here. And yes, it's pretty much the cheapest and best source of manga and anime where I live.
Yup, I agree with that completely. Having the tankobon is much better than the dull and lifeless pages on screen, and supporting the mangaka is way better than not having manga at all.
I doubt it's so much the pirating, as it is us fans waiting for the boxsets to come out instead of buying the singles. There was a good discussion about it somewhere, but it eludes me. Still, it is common sense; why wait to buy 6 single DVDs for $25 each when you could buy the entire boxset in one go for quite a bit less?
Anyway, supporting industry = good, leeching easily buyable manga/anime from the internet = bad.

Well i buy the singles and boxsets as well depending on my plannings some anime that i cant wait i'll grab the single as soon as they are out as for some other manga that i am not anxious of i wait for the whole set finish then grab it right off the shelf sometimes good palnning lets you grab all the manga you want i suggest all those kept running out of money all the time out there to do some planning, you know prioritize... trust me things will work out quite well...

i would probably have to purchase a plane ticket before i can consider buying any in print form, due to a lack of stores around here

I read the scanalations if they extend farther than the current released series, and then I buy the manga. This is true mainly for Negima.

Unfortunatly stores that sell manga in the UK are almost non-existant, and the ones that do exist will probably only be in cities. As I live in the middle of no where, I don't have access to any manga shops, so I can't actually buy any. But I would if I could.

My room is starting to get even more cramped with all the manga I have bought. Ironically, I buy manga more often than reading scanlations online, though the latter does provide me with previews, aiding my decisions as to which titles to collect.
It must also be mentioned that chinese translated mangas are much cheaper compared to their english-translated counterparts.

I've tried reading manga on a computer screen, but I like to be able to read whereever and whenever I want to :P
Stores in England have gotten much better, though admittedly probably not good enough if you live in the middle of nowhere :P but I get most of it online :D
